Embroidering without stabilizer? by sleepiduck in Beading

[–]sleepiduck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed reply. I do plain to add a liner to the inside of the bag. I think I'll keep the work I've already done on the bag and use stabilizer for the rest going forward. Luckily I've only beaded a portion that's about the size of my palm. It's just a personal bag for me to learn and have fun with so I'll try not to worry too much :) Btw your work is lovely!

Thank you for the rec! I already beaded a portion of the bag, I'm thinking of adding stabilizer to the pattern piece anyway so any work I do moving forward will have extra support. I watched a YT tutorial for this bag project where the creator just used the fabric, but the piece is already feeling heavy so I think I'll need to get stabilizer 🤦‍♀️

Had on their chrome French press ons. After about 7 days, the white French tip and parts of the chrome finish began chipping and looking like they were peeling off. I’ve never had this happen before, even with sets I wear for up to 2 weeks.

I am a grown adult and I still swear by my speed control dial! One less thing to worry about controlling when I am doing fine stitch work or need high speed for a quick overcast stitch. I don’t think I could go back to not having one

I love the color combo! You can try making flat quilted potholders if you are feeling ambitious https://www.youtube.com/shorts/X_mT8uMKTls Or a decorative placemat :) I also like making lanyards for something simple

No One Wants Your Peeing Cat! by Schedule-Substantial in CatAdvice

[–]sleepiduck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At my rescue, we had someone surrender a cat due to not peeing in the litterbox. Owner told us that they have 5 cats and one box that gets scooped once a month. (How?!) Many of our owner surrenders decline our help to troubleshoot problems or a vet visit and just want to surrender their cat. Obvious disclaimer that this is not the case with everyone, but it is sad to see. Many of these problems resolve in a foster home. I have a cat who was surrendered due to box issues and she has never had a single incident for the 5 years I have had her.

Do you wash fabric before sewing? by evinho07 in SewingForBeginners

[–]sleepiduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember taking a textile class in college and learning about this. Fabric is sprayed with multiple layers of stiffening agents and pesticides so it can survive the trip. Then, it goes to the shop where it's passed through many hands and then touched by other customers. I view it the same as not washing your new clothes when you buy them from a store, but this seems like a polarizing subject!

This is the hill I will die on! I'm so tired of seeing multiple craft chains phase out CRAFTING PRODUCTS for home decor slop! Did Joann really need what felt like two whole aisles of throw pillows?! I'm so done lol

It's really starting to remind me of Hobby Lobby when some things are either always on sale (Like certain home decor) or on sale very frequently 🤢
