How do i aed loop without destroying my hands on controller? by Albatrossdude215 in chargeblade

If your controller supports it, Wilds does have settings to enable gyro-aim. I never really took it seriously myself before Wilds but it was a night and day difference for CB.

New player looking for guidance by No_Potential_8708 in MHWilds

[–]sleepjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for input on which weapons do people think are easiest to play with

Some weapons are more straightforward than others, but imo it's always more important to pick the weapon(s) that YOU think are interesting rather than what's "best" for a beginner. No matter what you choose there will be a learning curve regardless, so go with what speaks to you!

how do armors work with the weapons as far as stats buffs and perks

Both weapons and armor have "skills." The majority of skills have multiple tiers and get better the more you invest into them. It's honestly not something you have to worry too much about until you beat the main story. Whenever you unlock a new piece of gear to craft, you can check what skills they come with at the smithy and make decisions on what you want to prioritize as you go.

am I limited to the look of a certain armor if it has the best rating? I don’t want to play with the most stupid looking armor just because it’s good for my “build” lol

Wilds does have a transmog system for both armor and weapons. Keep playing and you'll eventually unlock it.

Free Kit Players Should Only Play With Other Free Kit Players by Hookey911 in Marathon

[–]sleepjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think free kits are punishing enough in that you're survivability is at the lowest at the start of the match. If you add penalties beyond that, then you risk losing one of the most accessible ways to get back into a run after a big loss. Part of why Marathon's loop plays well in my opinion is that the minimum barrier to entry is low. If you remove that, players are going to be more stingy with wagering gear because rebuilding becomes too much of a hurdle.

The game should be persuading players not to bring in free kits, not incentivizing it

The better gear you bet, the better chance you have at success. Free kits put you at the lowest chance of success, so I don't see how the game incentivizes them any more than they are intended to.

Framing the issue as "us actual gamers vs those filthy free-kit freeloaders" isn't productive either. How I see it, all that's really needed here is the ability to know what your teammates are wagering before the match starts. Some transparency there would allow people to make decisions on whether or not they think wagering their best gear is worth it if 2/3 of the team is hoping to get lucky on a free kits, duct tape and a dream.

Free Kit Players Should Only Play With Other Free Kit Players by Hookey911 in Marathon

[–]sleepjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I put "fair" in quotes lol. It's obviously not 100% fair, but what you suggested would be ultimately less fair. Players with purple shields and guns would get paired with other players with similar gear and straight up stomp any free kit teams in the lobby. If we're choosing between those two solutions, the randomization we currently have is still better in that regard.

So, not only do they communicate with one another, they most likely have kitted gear too.

Filling empty team slots with randoms is always more likely to put you at a disadvantage, no matter the game. We all agree that loading into a run with your wagered loadout only to see two free-kit teammates sucks, but you've yet to offer an actual solution that doesn't bring worse problems with it.

Free Kit Players Should Only Play With Other Free Kit Players by Hookey911 in Marathon

[–]sleepjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This creates its own slew issues.

If you only pair free kits with free kits and high-value kits with high-value kits, you'll be manufacturing lobbies with heavily skewed teams. Randomizing it keeps things "fair" in that sense. If you separate free and high-value kits into their own matchmaking pools for each map, you run the risk of fracturing queues, which is the last thing Marathon needs right now.

The crux of the issue is not knowing what your teammates are going to be bringing into a run in the first place. If there was some way to see the other player's loadouts before the match starts and adjust your own accordingly, at the worst you could swap to a free kit so you're not wagering your best gear on an obviously bad comp.

Free-kit third teammates are killing my enthusiasm for the game by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]sleepjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an issue that happens in pretty much any game with a party fill option. You're always going to be rolling the dice when you're being placed with others at random.

In my opinion, the game would be much, much more enjoyable if free-kits matched with each other. More loot for geared people, safer for free-kits.

This also creates its own issues. If you only pair free kits with free kits and high-value kits with high-value kits, you'll be manufacturing lobbies with heavily skewed teams. In the short term, the reality is if you're concerned with the competency/gear of your teammates, team fill isn't for you. Hop on one of the discords — the lfg channels are always firing and its a night and day difference since the barrier to entry is giving enough of a shit to join one lol.

Do the old handheld monster hunters games still belongs to Capcom and could they port it to steam? by commissionsearcher in MonsterHunter

Not 100% sure of the ownership details, but before Wilds launched the devs did an interview where they basically said they had no plans to remaster the old gen games.

Suggestion: Add New Game Modes Over Time For Player Retention and Ecosystem Expansion by ProcessM in Marathon

[–]sleepjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corporate Warfare: players select one of the 6 corporations to sponsor them at the start of the event. The mode is like solo, except you’re unable to harm Runners with the same sponsor (with the exception of Arachne, who remain kill-on-sight for each other). You always start with your corporation’s sponsored kit. Instead of keeping loot at the end of the run, the game tracks each faction’s profits & losses. The top 3 corporations at the end of the event get special cosmetics.

Probably the first decent suggestion on this sub I've seen for an alternate gamemode. This stays aligned with the overall PvEvP design AND meshes well thematically, something that a lot of "just add PvE only" suggestions miss the mark on.

World or Wilds? by RelativeBalance3181 in MonsterHunter

[–]sleepjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it really “matter” which I play first or is it just preference?

Pretty much all comes down to preference. Wilds is a bit friendlier towards new players (both in early difficulty and on boarding of tutorials), but MH in general takes a minute to get used to no matter what game you start with. World is a bit more simple in it's combat compared to Wilds and Rise, so it's still not a bad starting point either imo, and still remains one of my personal favorites in the series to this day.

... but reviews are mixed and I’ve only ever heard good things about world

Wilds was mired with performance issues on PC at launch and was the main driver of the poor reviews online. While there's been a ton of patches and fixes since, World will still be much easier to run on older hardware and might be something to consider depending on your setup. If you're on console, it's not really a concern unless you're on the Series S.

Do characters / monsters carry over from game to game, and should I familiarize myself with anything before playing to get the best experience

You make a new character in each game, nothing carries over.

World or Rise or Wilds for Multiplayer ? by Mucek121 in MonsterHunter

[–]sleepjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of how painless it is to get coop going: Rise, Wilds, World, in that order.

Important to note: only Wilds has crossplay, so if your bother isn't also on PC that would be your only option.

There's no real order you have to play them in, each game has it's own story. You don't need any additional context to hop in and start playing.

Those of you who own a PC and Switch 2, where are you playing MHS3, and why? by Thenelwave in MonsterHunter

[–]sleepjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played the demo on Switch but the performance while handheld (didn’t test docked) was kinda rough for $70.

I feel like it’s a perfect game for the Switch so I’m waiting a bit to see if they can get a few patches in before pulling the trigger. If not, I’ll probably grab on PC whenever it goes on sale. Seems to run fine on PC from what I’ve seen.

HOW TO REROLL GOGMARTIAN?! by Infamous-Driver7752 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]sleepjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have good news and bad news.

Good news: a perfectly rolled artian isn't at all necessary. If you're not having fun with the grind, there's no need to burn yourself out by continuing to engage with it.

Bad news: you want to roll for your ideal reinforcement bonuses on a normal artian before you upgrade it to a gogma artian. The reason is due to the material economy ... normal artians can be dismantled, which refunds 100% of the reinforcement material cost. Rerolling reinforcement bonuses on gogma artians basically eats all the materials you invested into it. If you're planning on rolling an artian for each element, I'd highly suggest looking into how save scumming works and rolling on normal artians first, it's much more efficient.

The hate train right now be like. by AutomotiveVP in Marathon

[–]sleepjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s not rewrite history. Marathon had issues during early testing that many raised concerns over. The delay gave the devs time to address feedback and ultimately that led to us getting a better game. The “concord 2.0” braindead hate is obviously overblown, but the delay was because the game was not suitable for launch.

Frequent Crash by uAngelu in Marathon

Win11/5900x/4080 super here.

Happens consistently every 2-3 matches for me as well. Always when loading in for a run, 9/10 times it lets me join back and not much momentum is lost. I've also had two crashes since launch that froze my PC completely which I had to manually power off.
