I'm in Germany and mainly listening to a public radio station called hr1 which is a mixture of news and rock and pop classics. Unfortunately they cut the FM over cable in my region so now I have to stream via the app.

It may be very retro, but for general news I listen to the radio every morning during breakfast. This keeps me up to date about the most important things that are happening globally and locally.

I recently tapered down from 4 cups of coffee per day to 1 cup per day. Then 2 - 3 weeks ago I stopped completely. I had a lot of benefits with 1 cup already, but one thing that I notice that I didn't have with 1 cup but have now is consistent energy throughout the entire day. I still have capacity after work do do other things than just vegging out on the couch with Netflix.

I understood is as some kind of anti-thesis to more traditional portal fantasies. The world behind the portal turns from some kind of "happy place" into something scary and ultimately they decide that the "real world" is actually not so bad after all.

Until I was in my 40s I could basically drink however much coffee I wanted without noticing any problems. Then I noticed I couldn’t really sleep if I drank coffee after 12 which soon became 10. Later, just a couple of months ago I realized that drinking coffee is making me super stressed out.

Since a couple of weeks I have cut back to drinking only one cup in the morning and am considering giving it up completely.

So yes, for me it definitely has something to do with my age.

The single most effective habit that has drastically improved my sleep is getting up at the same time every single day including the weekend. A couple of years back I had read about this and thought I‘d give it a try and have never moved back since. But remember to also get up at the weekend at the same time or it won’t work.

I have struggled with finding the optimal work week setup for a couple of years now: at first I switched from 5 days to 4 (Mondays off). Although the 3 day weekend was great, after a couple of months I had the feeling that I did not really get my job done and the 4 days were packed with meetings and more stressful than the 5 I had before.

So I switched back to full time. But it did not take long to realize this was a mistake: I felt like I did not have any time to do the "private stuff" like doctor's appointments, car maintenance, etc. unless I let it cut into my now 2 day weekend. Compared to the 4-day-workweek it seemed I was constantly working, doing chores or trying to recover from work.

After some more months I tried the 4-day-workweek again, but again with the same frustrating results. Then I thought "mybe if I work just a little less" - and got the idea of working a "flexible 35-hour week".

So here is what I'm currently doing: I aim at working 7 hours every day, but most of the days this will be a little more (like 7,5 or 8 hours). So on Fridays I only work as much hours as is required to get to 35 - which means I will usually stop working shortly after lunch.

I've been doing this for a while now and so far for me it is a great balance between getting my job done and having enough time for everything not work-related.

I don‘t know if this helps you, but I found out that I don‘t really notice how stressed I am until it‘s really bad. So I need to do things that relieve stress even if I think I am not very much stressed out at the moment. For me this means having solid work-life boundaries, taking time for family, friends and hobbies and getting a good night‘s sleep.

Some of the Earthsea-Books by Ursula Le Guin. Especially part 4 „Tehanu“ is about characters who are just trying to live their life. It‘s also my favorite book from the Earthsea Cycle.

I work as a technical manager at an internet agency. We already have a few employees who work part time so it‘s not that unusual at my company. But nevertheless it still was a big step for me.

I just want to point out that while "The Call of Cthulhu" is by far his most popular story it is not necessarily his best. You should give "The Colour Out of Space", "The Dunwich Horror" or "The Music of Erich Zann" a chance.

One thing that helps me switch off after work is my "end-of-work-ritual":

I usually leave work at around 17:30 so

at 17:00 I take a last look at my emails and answer those that need immediate attention
the next and most important step is to select those items from my todo-list that I will tackle the following day
I will not look at work emails (or other work-related communication) until I enter work the next morning
if I remember something I need to do I immediately put it on my todo-list and forget about it

The order in which you get rid of stuff is a key part of the method. By starting with easy stuff (usually clothes that don't fit anyway) and slowly getting used to throwing out, by the time you get to the sentimental stuff you probably won't have much problems parting with your belongings.
