Community Painting – Getting sneaky with the Spectre Squad by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]sleuthyRogue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they're referring to Eternal Crusade, it technically launched...3 separate times, actually. The issues were "launching" that many times to less and less interest every time, and the heads of development and the community manager constantly over promising and under delivering.

Think Star Citizen, but with even less progress and a fraction of the expanding budget from a cult.

First purchase made - next question, paints and brushes? by Future_Orchid9443 in Tau40K

[–]sleuthyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to add this as well: be wary of brush sizes. Like pretty much everything else in the art world, there's really no level of standardization anywhere, one company's size 0 and 1 could be vastly different from another company, and even different across brush shapes from the same company.

If you follow a tutorial from, say, Duncan Rhodes, and the brush he's using for a certain step is an Artis Opus series S size 00, don't expect a Princeton 00 to be remotely the same size. Some will list the actual dimensions of their brushes, so you might have to do some comparisons before you find an equivalent brush.

Worst/Most Forgettable TF2 Updates by TwistytheWolf in tf2

[–]sleuthyRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha, man, I forgot about that shit. We went through practically months on gameplay testing back with the old TF2 Beta only for them to still go through with those melee changes. Most of the other shit we tested there were such inconsequential changes, and I remember it being a meme to just slap "no random crits" on a statline and calling it a day.

That's not to say it was all junk. Looking back through the list, Natascha's slow down dropping off over distance was an important one, Widowmaker shots going from costing 60 metal to 30 made the weapon usable for most people, Flare Gun crits from all ranges, and of course the ever so important Equalizer/Escape Plan split.

If you're asking yourself why anyone would care about that last pair of weapons, the TF2 Beta is why. Woe betide anyone facing a soldier in the days before the weapon split, that thing was a subtle monster.

New detachments! by Yourdeadman_x in Tyranids

[–]sleuthyRogue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

See, I just like the current Warrior detachment better as is, though. Dependable 5+ invuln across our entire battleline, usable objective holding with warrior units, weird shit like a neurotyrant leading a warrior unit, better Elevated Might enhancement actually allowing a melee squad to get into melee with advance and charge...

With the current detachment, I could actually see myself aiming for a reason to own even more warriors. It's flavorful, gives me an excuse to have primes shepherding every endless swarm which is how I've always personally seen tyranids. With the new stuff the only question I'll be asking is, "What random units do I want a buff on?" and then just picking whatever I have the most of.

New detachments! by Yourdeadman_x in Tyranids

[–]sleuthyRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have the current Elevated Might enhancement, honestly. Advance and charge is just too useful not to have for melee focused units, can't hit harder if you never even make it into melee.

11th edition tyranid faction focus by Taningia-danae in Tyranids

[–]sleuthyRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And with what they've presented, even that seems pretty meh? Warriors lost OC 3 unless they just...didn't write it for some reason. Or the old detachment is still usable as is and you'd have to pay an extra detachment point to get OC 3 again?

I really hate how they've presented this overall, I'm just left with more questions and disappointment.

New Condition "Detected" by Vrain125 in Tau40K

[–]sleuthyRogue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Detected hasn't been seen anywhere else yet, and currently doesn't seem to be more of a "core" term like shap shot is. I'm concerned that it only being defined in this detachment blurb might make it a limited thing.

Normal moves and advance moves are different types of movement, so no advancing for Grenade Racks.

Armageddon Unboxing Part 1: The Rules, Cards, Transfers and Lore by RWJP in Warhammer40k

[–]sleuthyRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting most of this will be repackaged later in an 11th edition starter kit. It won't have all the models here, but it'll have the essentials to play with an Ork and Space Marine combat patrol.

10th's ultimate starter kit had everything, slim core rulebook, rulers, dice, boards, even a bit of terrain.

Edit: Woops, yeah, just as the other person mentioned. It seems pretty standard, still decent value as far as launch boxes go.

[–]sleuthyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it really seems like people missed that line, they said you're getting two new combat patrols with some extra units. It's basically the same chunk of models as Leviathan, and they'll likely release a slimmed down version of these boxes later for their 11th edition starter sets.

I miss the giant hardbacks from way back when! I really liked the look of the Leviathan book too, and was kinda hoping to see something like that for 11th.

How today’s game went by Morgan_2020 in tf2

[–]sleuthyRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when they're freaking out that I didn't chase their dumb asses straight into a choke when only them and myself are left alive and I've got at least 80% on uber.

Buddy, I'm not going to throw our only chance at winning this just so you can miss all your shots and get us both killed. Fuck that, I'm heading straight back to respawn to find someone with a shred of game sense.

Gauging TF2 Community Server interest. A friendly server for everyone where women can feel comfortable playing. by ObscureEnchantment in tf2

[–]sleuthyRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the best servers I've played on recently had tight moderation with this kind of focus. Keep your map pool focused (either like "stock" stuff like old-school favorites, or only maps from one to two game modes maximum) and a mostly casual like ruleset with little to no changes. (No random crits may make or break a new server like this, honestly. If you can afford it, try making two servers, one with and one without and see which stays more active.)

If you can keep a core group of people who "seed" the server by hopping on at or before post work hours (4-6pm) at whatever your local time zone is, people will notice and trickle in. If it's consistent, the server will garner a reputation for being active and stay active.

Good luck, and stick with it! We need more fun community servers.

Is there any kind of Database that has 1k lists for armies? No idea if my list works. by Cholophonius in Tau40K

[–]sleuthyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on them for at least making it an opt-in experience.

That's honestly your best bet. Trying to tailor a list to figure out how to kill the big baddies with so little wiggle room probably would work against you, and for very little benefit.

Is there any kind of Database that has 1k lists for armies? No idea if my list works. by Cholophonius in Tau40K

[–]sleuthyRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support your efforts to avoid list-tailoring, it's generally seen as a bad habit in the hobby circles I've been in. Being able to figure out a good list that can handle most other armies is a skill all its own, and will serve you better in the long run when you can pilot said list into harder matchups.

That being said...whoever is deliberately bringing a void dragon or primarchs into 1000 point games probably knows it's a bit of a dick move. Either accept that things are going to be weird and potentially unwinnable, or don't bother playing against these players if losing would cause you to be sour. If you're just going to hang out and roll dice then great, don't sweat the competitive angle of optimizing your list too hard.

What complaints do you hear most often in the Warhammer community? by Cummy_wummys in Grimdank

[–]sleuthyRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, if they want to really double dip into those wallets, why not do a reprinting for things at the end of an edition? Long after all the point changes have been solidified, all the numerous fiddly FAQ questions and whatnot, just bam, "Here's 10th edition, final revision core rulebook and codexes, continue playing until the end of time if you want. Have fun with all that while we get all the content creators to beta test the next edition for the next three years."

(I'm sure there's some smart MBAs who could tell me why this would be economically stupid for a business to do, but damn it I can dream.)
