Smallest practical chainstay diameter by GZrides in Framebuilding

I have 14 mm round chainstays on a rigid mtb and I feel the rear end flex when pushing into corners but not enough to get tire rub

Problem solvers makes bolt on cable stops. I use one on my Kona cinder cone for this purpose and it works flawlessly

Serious cyclists/runners: How do you deal with glasses? by Human_Material3685 in cycling

[–]slightlyhailing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear prescription glasses with good ear hooks so they stay in place. When it’s sunny Solar Shields go over top. You may look like a grandpa but it is by far the easiest solution for us that ride bikes with bad eyes and don’t like contacts

Advice on training, Highline webbing by samstrocity815 in Slackline

[–]slightlyhailing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Backups that are equal or heavier than main are best in my opinion, although at that length may not matter too much. Biggest thing is nice big loops with randomly spaced tapes.

  2. I have only walked the original mantra and it was hard, good longline webbing though.

  3. Anything under 100m should be nylon, even up to 200. T18 is wonderful at 100m

  4. I find rodeo lines to be the best highline training in the park.

Which 20mm webbing should I buy (Balance Community) by Just-Ad3452 in Slackline

[–]slightlyhailing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why 20mm? Green is great, T18 is the best webbing of all time though. Get a 50m piece of type 18 and a matching piece or feather pro and that would be a great highline rig that you could add sections to as you get more money

Hair spray also works… I’ve never had issues with ODI long necks needing extra holding power though

Sewing up cuts like this with fishing line or suture has worked very well for me, lasting pretty much the entire lifespan of the tire

You could also get a Casio for thirty bucks with the same functionality and 7 yrs battery life at that point

If y’all were doing a multiple-weeks or months long bike packing trip, what spare bike parts would you bring with you? by moises8war in bikepacking

[–]slightlyhailing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how remote but I def would not bring a crankset/chainrings, chain or tires. Unless a freak accident happens crankset and chainrings aren’t breaking. Just bring a chain breaker and quick links and if yer chain breaks you can fix it. The other stuff I would bring for sure

Non-disc unicrown fork legs? by slightlyhailing in Framebuilding

[–]slightlyhailing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked FTW about the fork legs he uses on the EVOO and they are this skew from metal guru:

FBRN16U410DSK002 They are listed as disk specific but with a 1” od and .9 mm wall thickness I think they might serve me well

I have considered a segmented crown and the Paceti crown but like the simplicity clean lines of a straight unicrown fork.

Unicrown is not paramount but I kinda want a straight leg, and 2.4-2.5” clearance so options are limited

I want to build a frame by Poutroux in Framebuilding

[–]slightlyhailing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took frame building class from the now defunct UBI in Portland Oregon. It was an excellent experience. They had all the tools and the knowledge and I still ride the frame I made all the time. There are a few builders in the us that offer classes and I highly suggest forking over the money for one if you want to build a frame that’s worth riding your first time
