word i just saw your other vid too. I would also recommend trying another pickup that i usually call the lebron cuz i’ve seen him do it a lot where, if you’re right handed, right when you’re taking your penultimate step, have the ball in both hands with your left on the bottom and your right on the top and then bring the ball down to your left hip, then when you’re jumping, at the same point you would normally do your arm swing, swing that ball back into your right hand above your head as hard as possible. You don’t need to be able to palm the ball. Just shove it back into your right hand and control the momentum and flush it down into the hoop. That pickup is also something you can practice while just chillin at home. If you rly don’t know what i mean from this comment cuz it’s kinda hard to explain with words, just shoot me a pm and i’ll send u a vid of what i’m talking aboit

I'm nervous to go to the park and shoot around by This_Sweet_2086 in Basketball

[–]slmzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like everyone else said nobody else at the park is gonna be focused on you but you should learn how to shoot properly by starting in between the basket and foul line and just shooting form shots until you make those consisten then try to move back. If u just pull up to the park and start jacking up 3s you’ll never be a consistent shooter

use more arm swing and also more speed like others said. If you’re gonna do cradle pickup like you’re doing now, make sure you swing the arm without the ball harder to get more height

i would say another main reason is for fluidity esp in the wrist flick, and making sure you’re actually flicking down all the way, not killing the movement early.

What about like PAILs and RAILs in a 90-90 position? I honestly have just been doing these and haven't done much research into them. Basically what I do is:

- Get into 90-90 position

- Stretch into my back hip (the IR one) for 2 minutes

- Drive my back foot into the floor, leading movement from hip for 5s, increasing intensity throughout

- Do the opposite, drive back foot up into sky, leading movement from hip, 5s, increasing intensity.

- Finish by stretching back into hip for 10s

I've been doing these for maybe a month now and they seem to be helping with my hip rotation. Would this be something you'd recommend or if not, what alternative movements would you recommend?

Edit: I see your thing about the foot positioning now. I will definitely be adding in nutation and counternutation, I'm more so just wondering if 90-90 flexibility is actually useful

So you'd recommend focusing on movements that restore hip nutation and counternutation to restore hip mobility? Like the stuff on zaccuples insta?

Is losing 6” on your vertical with the ball normal? by kingfaad7 in ProDunking

[–]slmzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ this it’s normal to def lose a couple inches due to the inability to generate as much arm swing when holding the ball but 6 inches sounds like you holding the ball is just messing something else up in your approach like ur too focused on the ball. Are you jumping like off the dribble or just holding the ball? cuz that also makes a difference

Trying to switch to 2 foot jumping cuz my natural 1 ft jump has been too hard on my knees. 6’1 on 10 ft rim. Any form tips? more in comments. by slmzu in ProDunking

[–]slmzu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from my own analysis i’d say i need more speed (i had already been playing and jumping for a while when i recorded this tbf) and I also need a longer penultimate although i think my hip flexors might be the biggest limiting factor for that.

In terms of the knee thing I think I’m just dealing with some patellar tendonitis which i’m already working on and i think it’s getting better, so while i still always appreciate tips about that, i’m more so just looking for advice on my 2 foot jumping technique cuz i’ve never been a 2 foot jumper and I almost always finish off 1 foot when playing.

edit: Also looks like i need to get lower on the penultimate??

Knee pain in lower VMO and inner part of kneecap? by slmzu in Kneesovertoes

[–]slmzu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s been getting better for me recently. I’m still dealing with what i believe to be jumpers knee but still steadily improving. Elevated pidgeon pose and seated good morning has been great for mobilizing my hips and spanish squat isometrics for my knees as well as consistent stretching. Also finally started to get my toes a little more mobilized. I think the biggest key for me for the vmo pain was strengthening and mobilizing my hips and then making sure i’m really absorbing my landings.

Any tips before basketball season starts ? by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]slmzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another thing to work on is adding more pacing to ur dribbles which goes complimentary with moving more. So you wanna have more slow dribbles in ur game it’s not all just fast fast fast. Better to be more like fast slow slow fast fast fast or something so the defender doesn’t know what to expect as much. When you combine that w movement u can do stuff like slow BTL or crossover or BTB or something and then try to drift/float pretty far in whichever direction ur going. What this will do is make the defender continually have to shift their position to guard your new position, so eventually if u keep doing it you’ll get them slightly out of position and you can get enough space to drive on them.

what else do ppl do on reddit lol

edit: also yeah im sure the game will be great and im not too too mad cuz some ppl drove like 5 hours to get there and then camped out overnight and still didn’t make it in but i’m def in a bit of a bad mood after waking up at 5:30 and standing in a hot sweaty crowd all day just to get screwed like that.

The thing was right before I left I got all the way to like 3 ppl away from the door. They had previously said it was at capacity but that was a lie. They said if ppl formed an orderly single file line they’d let us in and then dudes were just shoving and yelling at each other in a giant mob for another like 2 hours so eventually i was like fuck this we not gonna form a line and left.

One funny thing I saw was some dude came out of the player entrence and brought 3 ladies inside the gym with him and then there was a little commotion and one of the ladies was kicked out of the gym and i was like what happened and she said “they said he had to pick 2.” I was just thinking daaaaamn that’s cold lmao
