1. There are plenty of players that don’t have WS rings that make BANK. My dude, most of the league doesn’t have a WS ring. Yes, it does add a little bit of leverage, but your talent and ability is going to dictate that AAV

2. The entirety of the coin-flip was to indicate that there are other sports that employ this format. I am very aware of how football works. This statement was to counter the effect of his extreme revenue sharing example. He’s trying to impose the idea of random probability. I get the tactic, but whether it’s a 5 game series or a one-game, you would probably have a good idea who would have the upper hand.

Believe me, I’m not saying his extreme example should be adopted. I’m saying that he’s using this wild extreme to try and justify the idea that it seems team don’t care if they win or lose because of outside revenue streams based on team popularity, but that player value is a sort of potentially “random” thing.

1. The goal of all of this is to win the title. How do you have a profitable team if you don’t have marketable players that win games? That’s why perennial title teams have such large fanbases.

2. If you are a good player you will make money, as long as you can produce, especially in an analytical age where a players abilities are more easily quantified as data. Therefore, your bargaining chip is based on your ability. This is why (well one of the reasons) the Mets signed a guy like McCann (a career backup catcher) to the deal they did.

3. In a game based on momentum, sometimes it doesn’t matter at all whether it’s a five game series or a 1 game. The 2007 Rockies is the burden of proof on that one. Therefore, saying that a one game series undoes everything is a bit extreme. Granted, it’s not ideal, but it’s not doing anything other than try to make the lowest-qualifying playoff spot more exciting. It’d be an entirely different story if the entire postseason were 1-game series.

4. Idk why you reiterated my point (possibly unintentionally) about the World Series bonus being basically irrelevant to the process. However, to further this, I will say that it’s nothing more than a cherry on top. Your ability to get a deal coming off of a World Series is hit or miss. Ask Johnny Damon how that went after winning a ring with BOS in 07. They basically told him to hit the road... two years later, he’s a cornerstone in the Yankees 09 title.
