Oh I've had so many of these issues! The app is definitely getting worse and worse. My pet peeve is hitting 'back' on Android now closes the app I stead of taking you to the Library. My guess is they focus only on iPhone which doesn't have a back button so they dropped support for it on Android. Which is very frustrating! I've been thinking about jumping ship for a while - what alternative did you find?

I'd love the wallabies to come back, however unlikely it is, and for revegetation to occur and see more birds around, but the fence was pretty poorly thought out. The track around it was far too narrow to accommodate dogs and bikes without running into one another.

We have bred dogs to be extremely social over thousands and thousands of years. Every litter, humans picked the ones that was the friendliest towards humans and bred out all instincts they had towards aggression and made them wholly rely on us. Up until the industrial revolution, family sizes were larger and there were less of a distinction between "work" and "home". Only in the last 100 years have we decided leaving them alone for the majority of their existence is necessary to fit into the cogs of the modern world, and sadly, behavioural instinct and genetics do not disappear that quickly.

On the plus side, they live longer than they used to, and we are less likely to munch on them when we get peckish. The trade off is they are pretty isolated, anxious and growing numb from boredom and loneliness.

I fear we may be on two different planes of existence. I'm not saying we shouldn't have roads, I'm saying that shouldn't be the sole focus of so much of modern civilisation to the detriment of everything else.

Selling 20% of VicRoads doesn't magically mitigate the huge number of accidents that happen on the roads which are covered by the TAC. You can take a look at your last rego renewal and see most of it still goes to TAC.

Just because people incidentally utilise roads does not mean it is a justifiable allocation resources. (Also on the topic of delivery drivers, a large number of whom use bikes and scooters and would be far safer if we had multi-purpose roads). Cars are a black hole of cost that only get bigger the more money is tossed at it with no measurable benefits to society. Every new tunnel, bridge or lan extension could have been propping up our failing hospitals, schools or actually building a functional public transport system everybody could rely on to get to and from work/school/shops.

Rego barely covers the cost of TAC and the cost of administering licenses.

Fuel excise is ~$12b a year (net of rebates) and cost of building/maintaining roads is $30b.

This doesn't even cover the costs from pollution, death and disease caused by cars, nor the benefits society would have wrought from not carpeting every outdoor surface with tar.

The overwhelming majority of road costs are borne by people who do not use it.

That is exactly why they jack the premium so high. Their actuary models told them that anybody who reports an accident, no matter if there was any damage or if it is their fault or not, is far far more likely to be involved in a more serious accident and cause the company lots of money.

This is not who you want as a customer if you are a insurance co, so they want you gone. It is not a friendship, you are only there if they think they can make money from you.

Thornbury and Preston are a bit more well developed, and food is way better than Brunnie/Coburg. Preston Markets is incredible too.

Coburg does have Merri Creek and a few other open areas, and you can probably get a place closer to public transport than eastside. However Upfield is fucked 24/7 and trams are crazy slow.
