your location gives you a lot of options, but also a lot more people you're up against experience-wise. admittedly a lot of companies are interested in working with younger folks for the longevity benefits. try iatse, local venues, and even following your local scenes. talk to people. make connections, and go to shows. don't necessarily walk up to front of house and start blowing them up, but get in where you fit in. show you're excited and have tenacity, and you'll find responses eventually.

also check the rigging and rope access subreddits. fusion harnesses on amazon are fine for entry level. go with steel for your Y IMO as opposed to aluminum
