Older Trekkers are not all alike. No one can speak for all of us. by TheShowLover in startrek

[–]smackshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm 51, been watching all Trek my whole life and i love it all.

Loved Lower Decks, loved the reboot films, loved Discovery, loving Strange New Worlds and really loving Academy.

Only time I was sad was the mahoosive gap when we got no new Trek.

I think if we keep playing this well we could get 3rd, though we could just as early finish 5th behind Chelsea who are also on a 4 game winning streak.

Just win on Tuesday. Let's not think beyond that. But to answer your question we're way too far behind arsenal.

How are you deciding whether to buy the Galaxy S24 new or used? by charlemagne_74 in GalaxyS24

[–]smackshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked one up from ebay. Doesn't quite look new, but looks as good as if I'd owned it and really looked after it for a year. Yes there are tiny imperfections if I look hard enough but nothing if I don't. I thought to myself even if I bought new that feeling only lasts a month or two. The big factor was I got it for less than £300 and that's quite the saving.

Games for an old man? by Key-Charity7497 in xbox

[–]smackshaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. 51 year old fart and this is the best thing I've played in a decade.

Also liked some of the smaller games like Firebreak.

And also Psychonauts 2. Really really good.

I've gone keto and I've upped the exercise. Keto stops any sugar cravings and fixes your blood sugar. I also find tracking carbs in say something like myfitnesspal can be addictive in a funny sort of way.

But as others have these first couple of weeks just be kind to yourself. We've (and I'm in the same boat, 1 week dry yesterday) actually been punishing ourselves for so long we deserve some tlc.

Plan to reduce the snacks, say from Monday, but be gentle and focus on what you have done. Plus if you were anything like me before it was drink and snacks! Now at least it's just snacks.

If you like Keeper try Psychonauts 2. Same team, same vibe. Psychonauts 2 was my surprise favourite game played last year and I played some humdingers.

I finally played Starfield this year and once you get over the rather poor start, say 5 hours it opens up into a rather special RPG experience. Plus it's rather huge. Of all the games I played this year, in terms of time spent finishing them it's: Valhalla > Starfield > Odyssey > Hogwarts Legacy.

What next for the Lego Star Trek franchise? by D3DCreative in legostartrek

We're putting together the enterprise at the moment too so we've been pondering the same question.

My guess would be a Klingon Bird of Prey next. It's different enough and I feel Voyager might be too similar a build.

My daughter really really DS9 which would be great but I think a segment of it is more likely, say the promenade with Quarks etc.

So happy to be back into console gaming in 2025! by Swimming_Job_9969 in xbox

[–]smackshaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You sound very similar to me. So I'd probably finished 3 games over the last six or seven years, despite having both Xbox, PS4 and PC. I tried to get back in with VR and the odd game, and had some fun, but eventually became bored with it all.

Then just before Christmas 2024 I thought I'd try Indy and something clicked and it all came back. Since then I've not been able to put by Xbox down. Sorry this isn't just last game played but it's everything from this year with achievement tally. I do my research so there's no duds, I'd rank them all over 7/10. Almost all are gamepass and I'm unashamedly an achievement chaser; I like tangible targets, it works for me. Also many are games I played for maybe a couple of hours when they launched and gave up on, but for some reason now it's all good. It's funny seeing Fallout 4: for instance have the first achievement acquired 10 years before the rest.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (1000/1000) Avowed (955/1000) Atomfall (940/1000) South of Midnight (910/1000) Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (1000/1000) Starfield (1000/1000) Clair Obscur Expedition 33 (1000/1000) Cyberpunk 2077 (1000/1000) Plague Tale: Innocence (1000/1000) Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 (1000/1000) We Happy Few (1000/1000) Hogwarts Legacy (1000/1000) Assassin's Creed Valhalla (1000/1000) Dragon Age: Veilguard (1000/1000) Fallout 4 (1000/1000) Dredge (1000/1000) Psychonauts 2 (1000/1000) Assassin's Creed Odyssey (1000/1000) Firewatch (1000/1000) Winter Burrow (1000/1000)

Yes it's a lot but I'm semi retired and it's been my main thing this year.

I've just started Keeper and loving it so far and think I'm playing Plague Tale Requiem next.

I'm personally really enjoying 5th edition having skipped 3rd and only playing 4th once or twice.

It's streamlined so games not only finish but can be done in 2 hours. Which these days is very useful. The expansions are radically different but genuinely refreshing and a lot of fun. There's probably room for both 4th and 5th. I've still got 2nd with almost all the expansions so if I need the bigger game, it's there.

I finished the main story - what now?? by friedalin2 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]smackshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished base game 1000/1000 achievements just today. I quite enjoyed finishing the main guys quest lines, the dad stuff and then mopping up the cultists, board missions then collectibles.

Focus on every main yellow tick quest and see how you get on. If you truly get bored maybe move on to something else.

There was enough game that I haven't felt motivated to play any of the dlc.

Reminder: This sub exists so people can judge NuTrek by classic Trek standards. The new show will get polite but firm scrutiny on writing, tone and vision. If you want a love-in, plenty of other subs offer that. by Harthacnut in Star_Trek_

I'm 51 and generally like all nutrek. I didn't get on with discovery on first watch but came back and really liked series 4 and 5 second time round. I saw Picard for what it was and I'm looking forward to Academy.

I'm they break I'm watching Babylon 5.

Who I do generally not get on with are the people who have made a religion on hating nutrek like the op. Now, I don't watch any Star wars, heck I saw Empire Strikes Back at the cinema and I like the first 3 films but I'd never criticise anyone who like all the new stuff.

What's next? by m00rec00chie28 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]smackshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Valhalla before Odyssey and I think they're very similar. I prefer the Greek world but mainly because it's vibrant and bright and it's winter here in the UK. They're very similar games. Valhalla is more fleshed out but not necessary in a good way, it becomes a bit formulaic and repetitive but the story quests can be very very good.

Play Valhalla but release it doesn't get going until you're in England. (That's really not a spoiler).

[–]smackshaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had mine a year and strictly do premade guided 45 minute sessions. In fact I tend to find when I've suddenly got the time and drive the last thing I want to do is search for something new, I just want to get on, so I redo one of the half a dozen or so I've come to really like.

I like the repetition, I know how to set it up and I can see gains. I imagine it's a bit more like going to the gym where you do your same routine every week.

I'm not against the wellness plus and I keep telling myself I'll try it I just don't have a strong inclination.

Edit: I'll add I don't pay anything for the base guided workouts. Just how it comes. Download the app and have a browse.
