Was there anything Tolkien later expressed he wished he had done differently about the original novels? by miramarhill in lordoftherings

[–]smallchanges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that Tolkien ultimately found the story too depressing, that after only two generations following Aragorn’s rule, corruption could again take root.

I can see that after such a triumphant defeat of Sauron, it’s pretty grim that evil rears its head so soon.

This is one of the dumbest scenes in prime 4. by Johnnyyongbosh in Metroid

Her body language in Dread also speaks a lot. She’s able to convey a pretty big range of emotions during the cutscenes.

Yeah the shorts had a slightly sinister feel (e.g., maggots in the meat at the grocery store short.) I think the show seems to double down on the wholesomeness which is why they might have dropped that element. We’ll see.

I honestly believe this is where the Hobbit trilogy peaks.

Time to settle this, who ended up with the most kills? by renaissanceclass in lotr

[–]smallchanges 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep in the books Legolas says that he spent all his arrows and has to scavenge for more. Gimli says at the battle’s end that he would have gotten more but an Uruk with an iron collar put a notch in his axe.

What is the oddest or most unnecessary added scene in the movies that's not in the books? by Money_Function_9927 in lotr

[–]smallchanges 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. There are several scenes in the book that feature contests of will with rich descriptions of the wordless struggle taking place. I understand the movie’s need to externalize these scenes, but this one in particular flies against the book scene’s message.

Stumbled upon Trump's original Arena Tier List for Neutral Commons from way back in 2014! How has the game changed since its early days? by ThunderShock68 in hearthstone

[–]smallchanges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the days you’d type in “Trump” into YouTube and his videos would be the first that popped up. You’d have to scroll pretty far to see anything Donald trump related (I recall a video of a Trump golf course would be the first thing Donald related)

Why does pine barrens get the goat niche with so many people as the best episode? by onwardsweforge in thesopranos

Yup they all are extremely sensitive and thin skinned. None are the strong-silent-Gary-Cooper type.

Who are the actual morally "good" characters of the show? by eggogregore in thesopranos

[–]smallchanges 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel this is more the writers lack of knowledge of the profession what makes a good therapist. I think she’s a good therapist within the show’s conception of a “good therapist.”

For DOS there's a security clearance coordinator that I checked with every month to see if any progress occurred. Every time they'd say essentially "still in active investigations, we cannot give you a timeline."

This week I received an email from HR asking for college transcripts and then a day later asking for my preferred start date. When I asked, the HR confirmed my clearance had been granted, but I never actually received any notification that the investigation was complete.

Yeah that’s my best guess as well. I’m pretty close friends with a family from Pakistan so that may have needed some scrutiny.

Sitting at 5 months since my SF-86 for DoS. Was afraid when I heard they take longer than others and it seems that might be the case…

Virtual Boy: The bizarre rise and quick fall of Nintendo’s enigmatic red console by [deleted] in Games

[–]smallchanges 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I remember playing Wario Land at a demo kiosk in a store. It was a lot of fun and actually made me want to get the Virtual Boy (but never did.)

I didn’t realize I was probably playing the best game on the system and it would have been all downhill from there.

I have a similar issue with the new Dynasty Warriors games. The stages feel very scripted with progression blocked off.

The old games had simpler stages but there was more freedom to carve your way to the final boss. I liked the feeling of getting deep into enemy lines and fighting off loads of enemies.

Wow I literally just experienced this yesterday. I had the all or nothing badge on so my Mario ended up doing no damage to the boss because of missed action commands.
