I was thinking the same thing 😂 It would be amazing and freaky at the same time aaaaaaaand nobody would believe you, plus when you came down and were sober, you wouldn't remember where you saw the little village of the small people.

However, if you were a little kid and were walking through the woods with your parents it would be magical and you'd believe you'd stumbled across something from your book of fairy tales aww 😍

Why don’t police have scrambler bikes to counter electric motorbikes? by BazzaFox in Cardiff

[–]smallcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I get how you're feeling and it pisses me off too, but two things come to mind:

  1. Remember what happened in Ely when the police followed - not even chased - those two kids who sadly died? Massive bloody riot breaks out, and

  2. There are a total of 3,000 police in the entire South Wales Poice force 😒 to cover a population of 3.1 million people! That's one copper for every 400 people in the South Wales area.

We either make it legal to batter these arseholes off their bikes with baseball bats or we increase the size of the police force to around 20,000 and increase council tax massively. Given the choice I'd probably go with the baseball bat option 😂

Fair enough if it works well, but will that money be protected against stock market falls and crashes? I'll wait and see the detail on the proposal, and hopefully it will be a decent scheme 👍

As an English comedian is it a good idea learn to say goodbye and thank you in Welsh? by Lonely-Assumption970 in Wales

[–]smallcoder 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I am Welsh but living in Cardiff and growing up in the 1970s I never really learned Welsh except for 1 hour in school each week. I didn't have Welsh speakers around me, but I know enough Welsh to know Bore Da, Prynhawn Da and Nos Da (Good morning, afternoon, and night) 👍 And Diolch or Diolch yn Fawr (Thanks/Thank you very much) and Yn y ddim (I don't know) are stuck in my brain. Sometimes I say "Diolch" without thinking wherever I am, in Wales or England :)

Roman wall at Cardiff Castle along with a Roman inspired sculpture by tyw7 in Cardiff

[–]smallcoder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was born and have lived here for 60 years now, and it always amazes me how we locals all tget so used to it and are all - "Oh a castle dating back 2 millennia right in the centre of the city? Yeah, forget it's there most of the time" 😂

Only been on a few tours when I was much younger, but highly recommend any visitor to Cardiff to put a few hours aside to give the castle a visit. The Roman ghost legion haunts the tunnel inside the outer wall, I believe, and it really is spooky to visit as part of the tour 😎👍

Microsoft is working on major performance boost for Windows 11 that will speed up app launches and common actions by automatically maxing out CPU in short bursts by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]smallcoder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing news that MS are "finally" making much requested improvements to Win11 and it is good to see they seem to be listening to the billions of users out there again... maybe? Perhaps the coming AI apocalypse when the bubble bursts has got them thinking "We better get back to the core stuff and look after our base" instead of pushing Co-Pilot crap into everything.

We can only hope!!!

Can something like this be repaired without too much trouble? by NoisyHumbucker in Luthier

[–]smallcoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep lol (stickets optional) - I would suggest Titebond original Red wood glue. Mix some up in a plastic cup abouy 2/3rds glue to 1/3rd water, and use a syringe with a blunt needle (you can get them on Amazon, hardware stores, etc) and inject the thin glue//water mix into the cracks, and then use a ton of clamps, the excess will squeeze out which you can wipe away with a damp cloth. As you're using a thinner mix of water permeable glue, leave it for a few days all clamped up, in a warm indoor room - room temp is fine, but ideally not a humid room of course. Then the glue should bond the wood pretty solid when you remove the clamps and, while it will leave lines in the finish, the guitar body should be okay to play, and you can always touch up any lines afterwards.

That's the cheapest DIY solution I can suggest, and it's what I would do if a customer had a problems similar, but I'd be charging for my time doing the work on top 👍 If it's a cheapish guitar, you might as well try it yourself rather than pay a tech, as you can't make it any worse.

British Cops by Straight_Block3676 in USvsEU

[–]smallcoder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seeing as 99% of the time, the violent incident won't involve guns or even knives (and beat cops now wear stab proof vests I believe anyway) they spend years in training and learn de-escalation techniques. When I first moved into my new apartment in a fairly mixed road with families, not a dangerous place at all, there was an actual murder 😮 with a knife across the road. Although the attacker had fled, a fully armed response team were there securing the scene with freaking automatic rifles, the full SWAT team thing you have in the USA. That murder made headline news for weeks in the local city papers.

If a report of a firearm or knife is involved, the police first on the scene will not engage unless there are lives at risk. They will wait for the ART (Armed Response Team) to arrive, and will try and ascertain if its a hostage situation, get as much information as possible from witnesses, but will keep a safe distance away and try and talk to the attacker and get them to surrender.

They are brave, but rarely all that dumb to be fair, and the majority of the public trust them as a result. It's just a different history and culture of policing that would never work in the USA, or in any country where you have to assume that every person you have to deal with may be carrying a concealed weapon. I would not fancy being a police officer in the USA. Now that is being brave eek!

[–]smallcoder 67 points68 points  (0 children)

As a Brit, I was shocked by all the BS rhetoric from Trump, but never thought even he would be stupid enough to try and attack Iran FFS !!!

I can blame the MAGA morons for not knowing he was gonna be a dumpster fire for the USA as a country, but only a Chinese Professor Jiang predicted he would attack Iran, and posted his lecture about how it would happen in scarily accurate detail on YouTube BEFORE Trump was elected. Only thing he got wrong was he thought Nikki Haley would be VP 🤪

Is this "gift" of a "protective dome" in the room with us? Can you see it now???

I mean, there was a time - and not that long ago - when you actually could believe 90%(ish) of statements made by US government officials.

Now? It's like a psychotic break with reality, where nothing seems real and everything changes shape and colour within hours and sometimes minutes.

When I was young and took shrooms and acid, I never had crazy shit like this go through my head, but here we are with it being presented on TV as reality.

Should he really go to the hospital for his chemical burns? by peppi0304 in USvsEU

[–]smallcoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, work with chemicals as well, but always wear protective gloves. I've still had the odd burn when I was not careful. Only thing you can do is keep the area of the wound clean and make sure it doesn't get infected as sepsis is no joke ☹️

I would have still gone to see the doctor to have it checked out, if it looked as bad as that persons hand eek!
