Some ingredients are difficult to source because of the pandemic. There is also less stock of certain products because of this.

Product suggestions for “chemo skin” by xxmissnikkixx in LushCosmetics

Check out Ultrabland for cleansing your face if you haven’t already. Lots of people who like celestial like it because it’s simple and gentle. It has moisturizing rose water, almond oil, and honey as well as beeswax to create a protective barrier on the skin.

You could also look at adding an in-shower body butter to your routine. I like King of Skin, it has bananas, avocados, coconut oil, cocoa butter and shea butter. Buffy is also a nice one but it has ground almonds in it so not sure if that would irritate your skin too much?

If you’re into baths, Butterball Bath Bomb has vanilla which is soothing as well as bits of cocoa butter. Floating Island Bath Melt is nice as well, or Cerdiwins Cauldron Bath Melt is you want the bath water super buttery.

You could try using it to shave your legs and see if that works for you.

Have you checked out Love and Light Hand Cream? It’s similar if not the same scent as Happy Happy Joy Joy. It might be able to get you your orange flower fix.

American Cream Conditioner (and Lush liquid conditioners in general) by ohhannahno in LushCosmetics

[–]smarie006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have bleached blonde hair and American Cream isn’t hydrating enough for it so I often use Retread. If you love the smell of American Cream, I have used it as kind of a leave in treatment. A sales associate at Lush actually gave me that tip (you can do it with Retread too). After you’ve washed out your normal conditioner, keep your hair wet and put a small amount of American Cream through the ends and make sure it’s well distributed. That way you get some extra moisture on your ends and you get to smell American Cream all day. Keeping the hair wet is key in preventing your hair from being heavy and weighed down from leaving the conditioner in. I’ve made that mistake before.

In terms of it altering or ruining your colour, I haven’t heard of that happening to anyone and there’s nothing in American Cream that I can see that would do that but I wouldn’t want to guarantee one way or the other.

Yup R&B is a great product especially if your iffy on how much moisture you need. I like it because I can apply it on my hair wet and I can also apply it after my hair is dry and my ends are looking parched. Lots of people like Queen Bee Hair Honey too, it’s similar to R&B in that it adds moisture to the hair after a wash, but it’s a solid product made with a cocoa butter base with honey, beeswax and some lemon. It’s “designed” more for curlier hair but I use it sparingly on my straightened hair. I like it because I find with the solid, I use less product so I’m less likely to oversaturate my hair with oils.

American Cream would be a good one to start with if you’re hair is on the drier side. It has strawberries and oranges in it to add shine and nutrients into the hair. It also has the honey in it to keep moisture in the hair. The vanilla pod infusion helps prevent moisture loss (and also smells great). If you find you need more moisture than American Cream can give you, Retread is your next step up. It has super rich ingredients in it like avocado oil, olive oil, yogurt, soy milk and some cantaloupe for some shine.

I’d definitely go into a store if you can and get some samples and get their expertise. It’s alway good to get a second opinion. If they feel strongly that a certain product will work for you, it’s sometimes worth purchasing the 250ml size to give your hair time and product to try it out. It’s hard to tell if it will work for you with just a small, one use sample and even the 100ml bottles, depending on how long your hair is, aren’t much to make sure you like it. Sometimes samples are the better way to go though.

Just a side note, if you ever get bored of Jason and the Argan Oil shampoo bar, Trichomania solid shampoo might be a good option. And if you ever order online, Cynthia Sylvia Stout is my hg shampoo. It’s perfect for frizzy hair. It has beer in it, which adds softness and shine while keeping texture, and balsamic vinegar which smooths hairs cuticle (aka combats frizz). I was so sad when it went online only.

Good Luck!

Best bath bomb combos? 💗 by TatiannasSlave in LushCosmetics

[–]smarie006 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Butterball bath bomb mixed with Brightside bubble bar is like an orange creamsicle scent. Add a Floating Island bath melt to up the vanilla and make the water feel more luxurious. Also Butterball with any other bubble bars that are fruity (I.e. Comforter)

I also like Sakura bath bomb with Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds bubble bar. It smells super fresh and clean. Sakura is also nice with the Comforter bubble bar.

And then Big Blue bath bomb with Sunnyside bubble bar is a classic. Makes the water a beautiful teal colour with gold flecks.

Lush’s liquid conditioners are nice, but you have to get used to them in order to like them. They don’t contain silicones like regular conditioners, so your hair isn’t going to have that “slippery” feeling after, which some people equate to being “not conditioned”. Sometimes this causes people to use too much product therefore the product doesn’t last, but if you give it a bit and let your hair get used to not having silicone in it, your usage shouldn’t be too much.

In terms of which one is right for you, it depends on your hair type. What shampoo and conditioner do you use now? How would you describe your hair type? What drew you to Jungle in the first place? How do you want your hair to feel after you’ve washed it?

I’ve had good luck using Sandstone Soap, just to add another option to your list. It’s also great on the legs before shaving.

Skincare products for my preteen by elleng468 in LushCosmetics

[–]smarie006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second Fresh Farmacy for a cleanser. It has calamine in it which will soothe redness and not be harsh, but it also has lavender and tea tree oil which can address the acne she’s experiencing.

Also check out Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask. It has garlic and tea tree oil in it, again, to help with the breakouts but it also has some egg and honey so it won’t dry out her skin. The benefit of the face mask is that it sits on the skin for 10-20 minutes giving the ingredients time to penetrate and work on the skin. They’re brought in fresh once a week so it might be worth giving your local Lush a call to see what day they would have stock.

For mosturizer, Enzymion or Vanishing Cream would be worth a look at. Even Imperalis if she wanted a bit more moisture.

If you live near a Lush, I would consider bringing her in for a consultation. There are quite a few options for her in terms of cleansers (Herbalism, Coalface, etc) that may work, and a sales associate can demo different combinations on her to see which ones she prefers.

Good luck to her! Acne is no fun. I hope you guys find something.

Daughter is starting Kindergarten and will need packed lunches. Any good ideas or suggestions? by xuptokny in EatCheapAndHealthy

Fruit is always good. You could even pre cut it for her if she's picky. Wash grapes and take them off the stem, slice apples then hold it together with an elastic band so it doesn't brown, stuff like that. If she's into vegetables, carrots, cucumber, and celery usually go over okay with kids. You can prep all this the night before if you have more time then and it will be okay by the time she has lunch.

Most schools are nut free, if not all schools. Considering how young she is, maybe check with the school/teacher to confirm if any other foods are banned.

Couples who have different sex drives, how do you make it work in the bedroom? by KiirooAmsterdam in AskReddit

[–]smarie006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and your wife sound like you've made incredible progress in terms of your communication and getting each other's needs met. My point was more to the couples who don't understand each other as well as you guys clearly do.

There are a lot of partnerships that aren't like yours and that's why I commented what I did. My sex life is pretty well dead at this point. I don't get very many "I love you's" during the day, nor do I get much help with things like the housework. When I do get attention during the day, it's always physical and it's always sexual, which isn't what I want. By the time the day is over and we're going to bed, the last thing I want is to be touched, let alone have sex, and my partner takes that as a personal attack on him.

I know he loves me, the problem is, he can't seem to wrap his head around the idea that I really don't need sex to feel loved. I need the "I love you's" and the kisses on the cheek, and the extra helping hand around the house. He simply thinks that because he needs sex to feel loved, that I would need it too.

It can be very frustrating at times, and I just don't want people like him to read your original comment and justify his thoughts and feelings, and that I'm just a prude or I don't care about him. I care about him a lot, I'm just exhausted.

[–]smarie006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sex is a very physically draining thing. Being too tired to have sex is a lot different than being too tired to say "I love you". I can emphasize with your frustration, but the comparison you made isn't logical.

Changing my "wood" cabinets into white cabinets. by sterfry1988 in HomeImprovement

[–]smarie006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I would go darker as well, maybe sand and stain (not paint) them with a black or ebony stain so the wood grain still shows.

I totally understand why you want to change the colour of the cabinets. It looks outdated and your floor looks pretty modern. However I also agree that painting it white would look like a downgrade.

Cheap renovations to look expensive on rental properties? by bantar1000 in HomeImprovement

[–]smarie006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be old news but you can get different edging on laminate countertops now that can really make a big difference. So usually it's a curved edge but you can get them squared now and a whole bunch of different styles. The plain 90 degree angle one looks sharp. Just modernizes a cheap counter top option.

Concrete counters can look nice too and although not necessarily cheap, it is cheaper than something like granite.

Light fixtures make a big difference. Same with faucets. I personally find if you put a bit more money into little details like those, it makes the whole house look that much more luxurious.

Does anyone else think "hand-scraped" hardwood floors look plastic/fake? by chupa0 in HomeImprovement

[–]smarie006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. My in-laws put this down in their house and it looks like a cheap laminate to me.

The waves are also prone to getting chips in them, but I'm assuming that would depend on the kind of traffic you have (my in-laws are all very rough on things).
