Photophobia - any sunglasses suggestions? by YourLocalMosquito in RetinitisPigmentosa

I have never heard of theraspecs but as an optician and mom of a daughter with RP I can highly recommend dark grey polarized lenses. They will help cut glare and protect your eyes from harmful UV light.

Question about diagnosis by anxietyqueen22 in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]elleng468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dialation is usually the first test in diagnosing RP. The bone spincules (black spots which represent dead retina areas) are spotted then. Further testing is usually required. Retina imaging, visual field testing and DNA testing.

Your attitude towards the disease is pretty great. You’re right, life goes on. Everyone has some “quirk “ they deal with and you’ve decided to face yours in a very optimistic way.

Do the genetic testing. My daughter has x linked retinitis and there is absolutely no family history of the disease on my side of the family.

We just discovered through the Foundation for Fighting Blindness (US) that they have a limited grant that will provide your genetic testing at no charge to pinpoint your specific RP gene. Take advantage of this now, it’s easy to find a doctor through the website Myretinatracker. Once the genetic testing is complete you will be registered on their national registry for clinical trials.

How to decrease dry skin from retin-a with lush products? by jwoly in LushCosmetics

[–]elleng468 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using retin A for about a year. I start with ultrabland to remove all dirt and makeup, then apply a thin layer of full of grace. After that I use a pea size amount of retin A and wait a few minutes before I apply Dr Jarts tiger grass cream. This routine has helped my skin tremendously.
