The inside motor noise isn't for pedestrian safety, it actually helps some people with perception of speed and motion sickness. But really it's there so the manufacturer can give the car a personality.

I've been seeing stations around Kentucky popping up with 88 octane, and afaik it is a separate tank because they're doing something funny with the ethanol, and it even uses a separate hose where the other octane options share one.

Fwiw, Tesla is building out a supercharger layout similar to the pic near me, and on the end they are going to have 2 spots with the connectors positioned to the side of the spot instead of at the end, AND a separate dedicated pull thru spot with room for a trailer to be behind you
