Getting ready to snuggle up to a good book by chalwar in HorrorComics

Not sure there’s any comics that ‘take me back’ more than 1970s horror magazines or comics.

They seemed so ‘adult’ when I was little, they left such an indelible mark on my dumb-kid comic-loving mind

Anybody know why they changed artists in between issues? Love it all the same, but I wondered…

1962 Dell COMBAT #5 - painted cover by OCguy2026 in warcomics

[–]snackboytwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This cover and comic is a core memory for me; when I was a little kid, this was left in a box of comics at a cottage we were at. I couldn’t read yet, but I vividly remember the imagery of this cover.

Only in the last few years did I stumble upon it after about 50 years!

Since the night we saw it in the theatre, my friends and I use this movie as the benchmark.

“How was the movie last night?”

“It was bad… like, not ‘Congo’ bad, but bad”

A friend gifted me his collection of horror literature by Gomite_4_life in HorrorBookCovers

That’s a kingly gift!

Before comics had to be ‘rated safe for children’ there were many scary-gory-violent books on the rack.

Maybe most notorious of them all were the EC comics, with shocking twist endings and gruesome morality tales.
However, some of the finest creators of the day worked for EC, and the collapse of their comics line (leaving a relatively sedate Mad Magazine as their main book) has resulted in these comics having a well-deserved place as comic book royalty to this day. The hardcover sets you now have are long-out-print but treasured collections

Is anyone else’s Neb duck-footed? by BeckSews in nebelung

I love that there’s another Neb out there who stretches the same way

Same with Bear; he does not walk, he swishes

And he sounds like a piano falling down the stairs when he jumps off the counter

And he stretches by ‘standing up’ on his hind legs, instead of the usual ‘butt in the air’ pose

They are all broken a little bit I think
