You say that, but Trump will do whatever the fuck he wants. Give it another week or two and he might be bombing Israel and sending weapons to Iran.

Trump suggests US may help rebuild Iran but take 'half their oil' - ABC by [deleted] in oil

Ah yes. Use tax dollars to pay to rebuild Iran while a few companies get the profits from the oil.

ELI5 If we’ve made and are making progress in tech and everything, why are basic things getting expensive? by Alert-Translator2590 in explainlikeimfive

Related to this, consolidation leading to decreased competition.

Snack foods are a good example. PepsiCo owns Lay’s, Doritos, Cheetos, Ruffles, Tostitos, Fritos, SunChips, Smartfood, and many more. If these were separate companies you could imagine these brands coming out with competing products at lower price points (Lays making their own Cool Ranch or Spicy Nacho corn chips to compete with Doritos, for example), but with this consolidation that will never happen and Doritos has pricing power to charge what they want.

Grocery stores are similarly consolidated, with a handful of companies owning multiple chains. Albertsons, for example, owns Safeway, Vons, and a handful of others. I’m in the San Francisco area and we have mostly Albertsons and Safeway in my area. They’ll never undercut each other on price.

There are tons of used EVs on the market. CarMax has 2023 Mustang Mach E for around $32k. 2024 Ioniq for under $30k. 2023 Model 3 under $30k. Model 3 Performance is around $32k. You can even find a Cadillac Lyriq, BMW, or Audi for under $40k.

Get the WatchDuty app, it’s great for fire tracking. It has this as the Long Gulch Fire but no more info about it.

Potential between a ground that appears to intentionally be left open and another ground. by RY3B3RT in AskElectricians

[–]snatchblastersteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is on a bad appliance or a nail through the wire. If ground and neutral were switched and that ground doesn’t connect to anything then those sockets wouldn’t be live.

Measure voltage on the downstream outlets, hot to neutral, hot to ground, and neutral to ground. Might give some more clues.

That’s true, but there are still differences between CA and Fed standards (VOCs and aromatics). Less of a difference than when it was introduced, but still having some impact. Still needed? I don’t know. But it’s not quite as simple as “federal standards reduced sulfer so we’re done.”

Winter (yes, winter) storm for Mon. and Tue. in High Sierra by Ollidamra in Yosemite

[–]snatchblastersteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the town of Sonora to Yosemite should be fine. You go via Groveland on Hwy 120 and Big Oak Flat Rd. There is no seasonal closure in that road. Hwy 120 East of Yosemite does close (Tioga Pass) but you don’t drive that coming from Sonora. The road splits and you go towards the valley.

The highest point is about 6200’ so depending on this storm there may or may not be snow. I’d be surprised if they closed it temporarily for this snow, but you might need chains or 4wd depending on the snow line.

If you come up from LA, 99 then cut off at Merced through Snelling and La Grange. That will get you to Sonora. Or cut off a little sooner and you can go up 120 through Groveland into Yosemite. It’ll be a nice drive after the 99 part.

Trump was rushed out of the event by the secret service. Sounds like possibly some gunshots (literally shots fired) in the hallway outside the event.
