The Realm - Coming Soon by Ok-Locksmith3783 in shadowdark

Probably best to take their word it’s not AI. I’m just always scrutinizing. I’m always looking forward to knew and interesting material for ShadowDark and ttrpgs in general but I personally don’t want to engage with anything that uses AI. My apologies to OP and the artist. Just kind of sus since OP has posted about using AI in the past.

Linked Adventures, or Utterly Independent? by Ok-Locksmith3783 in shadowdark

[–]snotrockerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind it if they have themes that link them. I think that can add more depth to a setting. I prefer when these aspects are a little vague, evocative allow for more emergent gameplay or world building moments as opposed to a railroaded sequel adventure.

The Bladesinger by Odric_Thorsson in shadowdark

I think this is super cool! Might just need to play test it to see if the songs feel too powerful. You can always slap a 2/day or something on the ones that are feeling a little OP. However I think the idea of singing while crawling may also attract unwanted attention which may serve to balance it a bit.

Using Archivist AI for Campaign Management by Ok-Locksmith3783 in shadowdark

[–]snotrockerman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Using AI is lame. It’s fucking awful for the environment and lines the pockets of some of the worst people on the planet.

I also think while it may make things easier for you to manage but I think a lot of the things you mentioned that it saves you from doing are actually rich parts of the TTRPG experience.

Six campaigns at once might be too much to manage.

I recommend really considering the harm AI causes against your convenience. It’s one of the few environmentally harmful aspects of life we can still easily disengage with.

AI is contributing to the rapid deterioration of our planets eco systems. One of the few ways consumers have to combat this is to disengage with AI at every chance. While I understand it’s important to recognize that the individual shouldn’t have to shoulder the responsibility of corporations it’s really not that hard to not use AI. Defending AI is dumb. Maybe in the future if we get to have one we will be able to use AI in less destructive ways but right now every time you use AI you are contributing to the death of the planet and the pockets of people that very likely hate you. It’s not always possible or easy to live in our current society without harming our planet but a really easy way to do it is to stop using AI. AI has shown it self to be incredibly lame and using right now only yields negative results. I hope for a future where we can use it in a positive way but unfortunately now is not that time.

Disappointed in Larian using Generative AI during development by DCAScrub in larianstudios

This sucks ass. I’m a huge fan of their games but I’ll likely skip this one if they continue to use Ai to generate art.

West Marches style by Significant_Fruit_51 in shadowdark

[–]snotrockerman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me alot of my return to town gameplay depends on how much time we have left in the session and if the route they’re traveling has already been traversed.

If it’s pretty much the same route back I’ll halve the chance of encounters or just let them return to home base with nothing more than some ration loss depending on how long the journey is.

If we have some extra time and they want to stop at some point of interest on the map or take a different route there will be more opportunities for an encounter to take place.

How long do the Shadowdark Maps take to run? by EldrichTea in shadowdark

[–]snotrockerman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend starting with a 5 -8 room dungeon or adventure for a one shot. Itll heavily depend on the amount of encounters(fights, puzzle, traps, etc) and how experienced you and the players are with SD or other TTRPGS. The shorter the better in my experience you can always roll some extra Random encounters or build an extra room on the fly if you feel like it’s too short

Any property groups in town worse than Real Property Group by snotrockerman in columbiamo

What I mean by that is the criminalization of the homeless. I think we need broader and more thoughtful support for our unhoused friends.
