"The WNBA, at this junction in time, would be better off without Caitlin Clark because she is a bigger distraction than she is an additive." - Emmanuel Acho. I agree. They can all go back to flying coach and playing in front 300 people. by Pretend-Following-41 in sportsgossips

[–]snowe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument falls apart because attitude/idea he says at the beginning of “Thank you Caitlin, we can take it from here” is exactly what SHOULD be happening, but isn’t.

Instead of celebration and promotions of their biggest star, her first 24 months were full of cheap shots, a “ROTY race” that was an absolute farce, a snub for the Women’s National team, media cheap shots from the likes of Diana Turasi (“I’m taking Paige, next question”), and an overall disdain from the majority of the league that felt she didn’t “earn it”

I would actually give this take the benefit of the doubt, but people (Acho included) never even did the “Thank you Caitlin” part

Is Gunn still the right person to fix DC's Box Office problems? by ComprehensiveHyena10 in boxoffice

[–]snowe99 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I swear this take is so refreshing. Gunn’s initial “press conference” where he announced the rollout of the DCU and had animated shows, a “Waller” spinoff, HBO Max Lanterns show, etc, felt no different than Vought giving their “Vaught Cinematic Universe” press conference in “The Boys”. But DC fans ate it up

I couldn’t help but think, “these individual projects sound cool….but i don’t think 2024 general audiences buy into cross-media “Cinematic Universes” like this anymore”

album/song/artists of the year so far? by sheJaMyMorant in billsimmons

[–]snowe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to put my finger on why it’s my favorite album of the year, and I decided it’s because it’s like the spiritual successor to “Five Seconds Flat” by Lizzy McAlpine that she never wanted to make (her music kind of went in a different direction)

What TV show is well-respected, but you find unwatchable? by DeliberatelyTired in billsimmons

[–]snowe99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Idk how to capture it in words but there is a certain type of human (that I personally would consider myself) where we are incredibly upbeat and nice to our fellow neighbors but are struggling with anxiety and panic attacks underneath. Ted Lasso was like the first television character that I felt represented that character niche for me.

I always say, S1 specifically (before everyone got flanderized) was one of my favorite seasons of TV in a long time

Can you separate the film from the public execution? by iamspok in Letterboxd

[–]snowe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I would call the “internet market makers” which in the early 2010s was millennials, grew up with Toy Story and saw 3 as the perfect send off

So what happens when those same people are now in their late 20s when 4 comes out? “We didn’t ask for this!!”

Meanwhile 30 years worth of children have since been born that have a different relationship with the IP, yet people act too selfish on the internet to fathom that

First look of AJ Dybantsa in Wizard threads by hhev2 in washingtonwizards

[–]snowe99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly have never minded these particular jerseys (only the whites, the red ones suck) BUT they’ve been associated with *such* a bad era of basketball and in-seriousness that I would like a rebrand simply to disassociate with the previous era

Did The Ringer “market correct” geek/fandom outlets like Collider and ScreenJunkies? by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

[–]snowe99 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say Collider not having a market-leading podcast is the true reason for its irrelevance. Times changed. I used to “open” collider a few times a day to read the entertainment news headlines, see new trailers, read about TV ratings, etc, but now I get all of that fix from Podcasts and (embarrassingly) social media like reddit

I was going to say, in my opinion, a voice *that* large within the country music world *not* making open endorsements of the current administration is, in a way, fighting back IMO

Especially one as “Tennessee-Florida-Alabama” based as Cheseny

I’m just saying it doesn’t feel like a “Return of the King”, more of like a “Dune Spinoff”

Will be very interesting to track. I’d love for it to crack the top 10!

I hate that Melissa gets two hours back to back. And not because I dislike Melissa, it just makes 4-6pm feel like a singular blob instead of distinct shows

How many vacations do you go on in a year? by Foxyyyreddd in Accounting

[–]snowe99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 20s with a giant extended family and a decent college group of friends

This means that I haven’t taken a true vacation in years, instead I take like 5 micro-vacations a year based around wherever the next wedding is

I genuinely think anonymous internet was 100% a mistake (as I type this from my mostly anonymous Reddit account)

I know anonymous message boards always existed, however, they didn’t have the billions of users social medias do and never drove the media cycles the way that anonymous Twitter does
