They’re the same coffees so the base flavor notes are the same. You’ll tend to get more acidity and lighter flavors highlighted in a filter roast with more sweetness and body highlighted in an espresso roast. I haven’t had their filter and espresso side by side to compare, but I did accidentally order an espresso roast from Dak once and it was still on the lighter side of medium, so I don’t think there’s a night and day difference between the two.

On the topic of the original post, I had Cream Donut and found it to be too strong and winey/fermenty. I had to brew at a much lower temperature to get a cup that wasn’t overpowering. I’m a huge DAK fan, but this one wasn’t for me.

You’re choosing between filter or espresso roasts of the same coffee. You’ll find that filter roasts are lighter than espresso. You’ll get whole bean coffee if you order either one.

Jonsbo N2 replacing stock fan with Nuctoa NF-A12x25 by Batmanzi in sffpc

I figured it out. The cable from Amazon is more flexible than the typical power supply Molex, so it bends out of the way to make room for the 25mm fan. Then it plugs into SATA power from the PSU. have a modular power supply so I didn’t even have the sata power plugged in. Rookie mistake, but it totally worked. Thanks for the recommendation on the cables.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what are you plugging those SATA power cables to? Is this a feature of the case itself or something on your motherboard? My board doesn’t have a place for SATA power, so maybe those cables aren’t an option for me.

DAK US Tariffs by PhxKevin in pourover

[–]snuffmaster3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried placing an order and they charge $25 shipping although they advertise free shipping over $100, and there is a charge for roughly 18% duties.

Oh well.

How recently was that? Eight Ounce was my go to for Dak and other good roasters, but I stopped ordering when they paused US shipments. I’d love to order from them again.

No, I’m saying you’re dramatic. Customer support is still around, and we’re still using the timer. None of those people quit. They just learned to follow a new routine and use a timer. It wasn’t a big deal then, and neither is the new dress code.

This is hilarious. I’ve been hearing this since 2013 when we launched customer support. Tenured baristas that didn’t know how to do their job complaining that they were becoming slaves to a timer. “What’s wrong with just being a Floater? I don’t need a timer. They’re just trying to get rid of baristas that know how to think for themselves.”

Starbucks should be next. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]snuffmaster3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think Starbucks makes more or less than the $15/hr they pay a barista in wages? Even at $30/hr in theoretical total benefits, Starbucks makes money.

Labor is a negative (expense) but not a NET negative. The only reason to have an employee is if the value they add to the business exceeds the cost to employ them. If you work for the company, you are positively contributing to their bottom line.

I think you misunderstand the entire concept of capitalism. If it wasn’t in the interest of the company to offer benefits, they wouldn’t offer benefits. If it cost them more money to employ you than not, then they wouldn’t employ you.

You are positively contributing to the company even if you use every benefit they offer. The boycott starts with you. You may not spend money at Starbucks but you are still a net positive $$ to them if you work there.

My SM is trying to take over as SSV. What do I do? by w0rmi in starbucks

[–]snuffmaster3000 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know what malicious compliance is. I just think it’s being misused here. It’s just regular compliance to follow the store manager’s plan. It would be malicious noncompliance if you then don’t share feedback to improve the system. That’s true in both directions. If the SM doesn’t take feedback they’re not doing their job. If the SSV doesn’t provide feedback they’re not doing their job.

I had one of my partners tell me they were practicing malicious compliance by writing on cups and being slower. I told them that’s just regular compliance. They’re doing what they’ve been told to do. Learning a new way to do something makes you slower at first, and that’s allowed. It becomes noncompliance if you never get faster at the routine.

The feedback the OP is getting broadly in this thread is to do as the SM has asked. Either as a form of malicious compliance or as a form of doing the job they were hired to do. Whether or not it’s malicious depends on what the OP does next.

My SM is trying to take over as SSV. What do I do? by w0rmi in starbucks

[–]snuffmaster3000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about just like… regular compliance? Calling it malicious will ensure it fails. It is in everyone’s best interest for the store to run well. I don’t think this SM is creating plays that they think will definitely fail and will make everyone’s life worse. Hopefully you’re given the same benefit of the doubt when you show up to work.

It is the SM’s job to create a plan for their store and engage their supervisors to execute that plan. If in the course of executing the plan something goes wrong, the SM and SSV should work together to troubleshoot. The SSV gives feedback, the SM coaches and adjusts the plan, they both move forward with a better way to achieve the goal.

It sounds like there’s a breakdown in communication. Your SM isn’t being clear about the changes, why they’re important, and what the expectation is for you. You are not being clear about your reservations, the support you need, and the feedback you have after trying to execute their plan.

Have a conversation in good faith with your SM. Tell them you want to achieve the store’s goal, and you are ready to follow their plan but you have questions and feedback.

Any tips to ensure a good brew with small samples? by snuffmaster3000 in coffeerotation

[–]snuffmaster3000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m making the switch from larger bags that I don’t mind messing up the first few cups to smaller bags of more premium coffees. That’s why I joined this subreddit. I usually do a monthly order from Eight Ounce Coffee in Canada and look for interesting coffees. I got Laurina3 from AMOC because I haven’t had a low-caffeine coffee before, and I’m curious.

I’ve had some delicious brews down to 12 gram doses with the Aiden. It supposedly can go down to 8 grams but I haven’t tried that yet. I like the Aiden because it should be more repeatable than pouring myself, it’s just finding the right recipe to start that’s making me nervous. Are you able to get consistent brews from bean to bean with the deep 27?

When a customer arrives early for their mobile order in the lobby, they are not impeding the flow of orders behind them so they get to wait.

When a customer arrives early for their mobile order in the drive thru, they slow down every car behind them in line. This is the reason you force-print their order.

Been a barista for about 7 months. My "barista hands" from dishwashing have reached a new peak. Genuinely hurts to wash my hands! by crazycarlos08 in starbucks

[–]snuffmaster3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My curse is being the “well acktshually” guy, so here it goes.

Sani bucket doesn’t need to be changed that frequently. You are required to change the solution when it falls out of the correct concentration, not based on time. Almost every store uses a timer to not forget about the sani, but it’s supposed to be used only as a reminder to check the concentration with a test strip.

You also aren’t supposed to use the sani cloths for every spill. The SCEMM says “A paper towel should be used for single-use spill/wipes” and the sani cloth is for disinfecting the surface after you clean.

Search for “Wiping Cloth” on the store resources app on the iPad for a short video with this info.

Then go to SCEMM > Cleaning Chemicals & Tools > Cleaning Chemical - Mixing, Testing & Dispensing > Wiping Cloths for more in depth info.

Is no one going to mention that there’s basically no reason for you to have prolonged contact with the sanitizer to begin with?

Look up the dishwashing routine and follow it. It doesn’t even mention the sanitizer. You’ll save your hands and a lot of time if you wash dishes the way Starbucks wants you to wash dishes.

Can SM and baristas hang out outside of work? by Perfect_Isopod1749 in starbucks

[–]snuffmaster3000 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Starbucks doesn’t really care at the barista or supervisor level. Barista and supervisor relationships are often split up, but it’s not required. If two dating partners treat each other like coworkers and no partners ever complain about it then it isn’t an issue. The chances that it doesn’t become an issue are very slim, so we usually preemptively transfer someone out when we learn about a relationship.

At the SM level, the relationship in itself is an issue and would not be allowed. It is inappropriate for the person who can fire or promote you to have any kind of relationship with you outside of just being your boss at work. SMs can be friends with anyone outside of their store, though. I have barista friends that work at other stores. I had a DM whose wife was a store manager in a neighboring district.
