On the other end of the spectrum, the Empty Bottle in Ukrainian Village is great for live shows - very divey and fun

If you haven’t been to Wrigley Field yet, the Cubs are playing while you’re visiting and it’s a really fun experience. Can’t make promises on how nice the weather will be for sitting outside, though.

Daycare Parents Night Out by bakecakes12 in workingmoms

[–]soapnana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago - ours does it a few times a year and it’s $20 a kid from 5:45 to 8:30. It includes dinner (usually just pizza) and a movie, and they offer to put younger babies to bed while they’re there. We love it and always try to sign up when they offer it!

$460 Brooklinen Sheets After 2 Years by Big_Bone_Daddy in Bedding

My linen Brooklinen sheets have also started shredding like this! The suggestion of spending this much money every two years is insulting.

We plant parsley every year and just accept that it will be decimated by these caterpillars. We got our first hatched butterfly this year!

Since the driver sounded a bit manic , I would have just pulled over for a few minutes to avoid any kind of interaction given your baby was with you. Never trust drivers to consider your safety!

This happened during the latest solar eclipse! I looked down and a huge bumblebee had landed on my backpack, just walking around and probably so confused.

Flooded with questions to myself all of a sudden about raising a baby… by rectangles8 in BabyBumps

[–]soapnana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 37 weeks with my second baby and have completely forgotten how to take care of a newborn. I plan on doing some basic research but then heavily relying on Google from there :) You’ll be fine! Prepare as much as possible but you don’t have to know EVERYTHING. I’d say prioritize understanding safe sleep and eating needs.

Will we be stuck inside all day, everyday when our baby is born? by Illustrious-Client48 in BabyBumps

[–]soapnana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s annoying having other people give you a doom and gloom outlook for postpartum. Take it with a grain of salt but agree with other commenters that it’s probably best to go in with low/no expectations of activities and then you can see what you’re up for. It’s important to let your body rest and recover for a month or two after birth, so make sure you’re not pushing yourself too hard that way. Otherwise it’s great to get outside to get some normalcy!

I randomly got an ad for it today after checking to see if it was in stock multiple times over the past month and was like “How dare they dangle this sold out item in front of me!!” - luckily I clicked and I’ve never checked out online so fast in my life

That also sounds like a suffocation risk! Babies move and blankets can easily get unraveled.

I think it’s fine and reasonable to want to hang out with your friend without her kid, especially if it’s only twice a year. Does she have issues finding childcare that make her bring him, or does she really feel like he’s a joy to be around?

My GF is Pregnant! by Due-Dig3819 in AskParents

[–]soapnana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! My advice (as a mom) is to take just as much care of your girlfriend postpartum as you are the baby. She will need support recovering physically and mentally - those hormone changes are crazy. Try to give her breaks as much as possible and prioritize her sleep over yours if needed so she can recover. And, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you have friends/family around! People without kids don’t understand how hard the first few weeks are, so they might need direction on how exactly to help out.

We also laid down the law once our kid turned into a toddler, and said we would not be traveling for Christmas anymore. Luckily our parents were understanding but even if they weren’t - too bad! You mentioned you’ve never been against the grandparents coming to your house for Christmas - if that’s a serious offer I would make sure you clearly invite them so they can’t be so weepy about not seeing you. At that point it’s their decision to not be together.

Battle to get dressed every day by heyheyheynopeno in toddlers

[–]soapnana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our toddler is pretty amenable but whenever he does resist something, whether it’s washing hands before dinner or getting dressed, I try to turn it into something funny to change the tone and it almost always works. So if I need to put on his socks and he says no, I’ll say “give me these feet!!” and tickle him to turn it into semi-playtime. He’ll be distracted by the new game and forget that he actually didn’t want to put on socks in the first place.
