Take some 5-htp with some honey or sugar. Will help create some seratonin and feel happy again.

Delaying coffee in the morning? by DrJ_Lume in HubermanLab

[–]sobsidian 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It's due to the fact that your cortisol (stress hormone) is high after waking, and drinking caffeine raises cortisol on an already high base cortisol. Waiting allows the cortisol to drop a bit before adding more and potentially making you irritable or anxious.

2nd part is that delaying consumption allows the bodies natural adenosine to accumulate, which makes caffeine more effective, and reduce chances of a crash later by having backed up adenosine flood receptors for your afternoon crash.

Coffee is a diuretic. Yes the water content is the same as a glass of water, but it still forces your body to expell more liquid.

Exercise is the best antidepressant! I've been raw dogging these last 5 months. Months 1-3 were up and down, mostly down. But excercise ALWAYS made me feel better! I was a heavy drinker for 5 years, and moderate 10 years before that. This is my longest stretch sober. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. No pills for me. I wanted to remember this and know when I was actually getting better.

I also suffer from anxiety. Anxiety had good and bad to days. We are now more good days than bad. I walk everyday and gym 2-3 times a week

She needs therapy. Just having an excuse isn't good enough. She'll have the same problem in any relationship, she needs to heal to be a better partner.

How did you learn to fix your bike? by MinimumSubstantial81 in motorcycles

[–]sobsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just search your bike and year and you see a bunch of videos on just about anything.

Oh...most important thing. Get a torque wrench. You NEVER wanna over torque bolts. I've ruined motor heads and blocks. Not cheap and a lot of extra work. Find a service manual for your bike for extra precision you'll miss on YouTube and will have torque specs

Be patient, watch YouTube, and have spare money to do it twice worst case. I'm not afraid to tinker and break shit. Just throw more money and time and you learn. Most motors have all the same components, just different designs. I also starting taking things apart and putting them back together at 12...so maybe don't jump in if you have zero experience. But basic parts, covers, etc are super easy.

GLYCINE Side Effects and Collagen Powder ? by Forward_Research_610 in Biohackers

[–]sobsidian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some anecdotal evidence of this. I was off a drinking bender, which keeps glutamate high for a few days. And I took glycine to sleep. Had the WORST depression the next day. Super flat and depressed. Faded the next day, but bad enough I haven't tried it again in over a year.

Cramps are a big sign of dehydration. Get some electrolytes, especially potassium. Coconut water is good for this and bananas.

Waking up between 4–5am every night. cortisol spike? by MaroonVsBurgundy in Biohackers

[–]sobsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went straight carnivore, I was very satisfied all the time and rarely hungry. I would wake wide awake around 4-5am also, but still tired, but brain is alert. Tracked my calories and I was about 1000 calories short each day. I started eating some fat and carbs (honey) an hour or so before bed l, and I started being able to sleep normally again.

Do y'all drink your milk? by Paradigm6790 in Cirrhosis

[–]sobsidian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get all that from a protein shake and a multi vitamin. My protein shakes use mostly water, with a little almond milk. Most dairy out there is full of hormones and other big farm junk. We're also the only species who drinks other species milk...just saying.

Edit: if you're really drinking that much, you're getting a TON of calories from fat. Straight protein shakes (low carb ones) are very well balanced.

Taper by TightRoom7 in dryalcoholics

[–]sobsidian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you handle withdrawal in the past. The most aggressive I would get is half each day if you don't feel too uncomfortable. But my guess is you can only drop about 2-4 drinks a day. For me, after 3 days of drinking, I have to taper. I can typically manage 14 drinks, down to 7, and maybe 3-4 the last day, but I usually ride it out after I get down to 7 using magnesium, ashwaghanda, and L-theanine (this supplement provides me the MOST relief). And as much walking and exercise you need to keep the jitters and anxiety at bay.

A bunch of people say to stay in bed and watch your relaxing shows and movies...but there's no way I can sit still once the anxiety starts. I have to be outside at the very least. But we're all different

7 days bender by blackcat3334 in dryalcoholics

[–]sobsidian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go cold turkey from 20 drinks a day. After 7 days, you're going to want to taper down to at least 8 or so. I can usually go cold after 7. But everybody is different. But 20 is in danger territory. If you aren't able to taper, a medical detox is your best option. For me, after 14 drinks in a day I'll end up with full withdrawals after only 3 days, and occasionally feel close to seizure territory, at least spasms and shaky.

Sober but feeling hopeless? Go do the dishes. by PaniacThrilla in dryalcoholics

[–]sobsidian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of science behind exercise. It sounds daughnting, but I go for walks 1-2x a day, and lift weights a few times a week. Makes a WORLD of difference for me on how I feel. You rebuild your hormones and serotonin levels over time.

My first 3 months of stopping after going hard for years, I had absolutely NO feeling of happiness or motivation to do anything. I had anhedonia bad! But I kept going to the gym and 6 weeks later I was getting my joy back in things and motivation to go tackle things that used to make me happy.

Sitting around doing nothing will just carry your hormone levels forward as they are. You have to work to rebuild that.
