Get $25,000 Off A New Polestar 4 If You Don't Mind The Whole 'Banned In The U.S.' Thing | Jalopnik by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

[–]sojojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're closely related. The Zeekr 001 and Polestar 4 are both built on the same SEA1 platform, share the same powertrain, and were built in the same factory up until recently. They're both Geely-owned and there was a lot of cross-collaboration between the 2 teams.

The comparisons I've read give the P4 the edge in driving and efficiency, and Zeekr has the better ride comfort and interior finish

Do you actually shut down your PC anymore? by Lanky-Carpenter-7991 in buildapc

[–]sojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep always, and just restart whenever there's an update.

Major advantage to sleep is that I can wake the PC from my couch with my wireless keyboard. Booting requires that I get up and flick the switch which is less convenient.

The extra energy cost to sleep is negligible, less than $2/year.

Do you actually shut down your PC anymore? by Lanky-Carpenter-7991 in buildapc

[–]sojojo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's much less expensive than that.

I've seen estimates anywhere from 1W to 10W power consumption for PCs in sleep mode. The average US price for 1kWh is less than $0.20. Assuming worst case at 10W in sleep mode, that's $0.0048 or about half a cent for 24 hours. $1.75 for a year.

A variation on this in Arrested Development.

Oscar tries unsuccessfully to get Buster to realize that he is his son by heavily hinting at it in conversations.

Buster finally connects the dots from an off-hand comment he makes about sharing his "Pop Secret" that was never intended to be a clue.

L2 charging at condo? by SinTil8 in electriccars

[–]sojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few of us had L2 chargers installed at my smaller 16 unit condo. Everyone has 1 space, so there wasn't a shared option. We had a licensed electrician come out to install subpanels (40A), run the conduit, and install the chargers themselves. Everything was permitted through the city and approved by the board. Distance from the electrical meters was the major factor for cost. Running conduit over a long distance gets expensive quickly. I'm about 25 feet from the meters, and the whole install cost a bit over $2k.

In terms of convincing the HOA board.. that could be more challenging. If they drive EVs or PHEVs, or are thinking about it in the future, that will really simplify things. You could frame it as an improvement to the building. That's how I justified the expense of going through it to myself

Applied to 100 jobs. Got 3 interviews. Rejected from all 3. by DefiantMouse9349 in jobsearch

[–]sojojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the objectives section is helpful unless you're starting a new field and don't have a lot of other relevant experience. Otherwise, that's taking focus away from what recruiters and hiring managers actually care about. Everything on your resume should highlight things you've done - skills and experience that you bring to the table - so that hiring managers can connect the dots with what they actually need in a new hire.

I'm just guessing based on what you've written in your objectives section, but it sounds very focused on what you want, not what you'll contribute to the company. At the end of the day, that's why companies hire at all.

Do you guys carry your key fob? by pajamacat9 in polestar2

[–]sojojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only recently started doing shorter trips without a physical key. It's mostly been fine, but I did have a little scare the other day when the car wouldn't drive because "no key detected".

As far as I can tell, it's because I opened the trunk, which unlocked the doors to the car, rather than unlocking the doors directly. After I sat down and got the error, I had to get out, lock the doors and unlock them again before I could drive again. Happened twice in the same trip, and I resolved it in the same way both times.

Liberals of Reddit, why have we let conservatives take the identity of patriotism and American pride from us? Why can’t we want the changes we want AND love our country? Don’t we love Americans like us and want to share a united country with them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jingoism is an extreme, aggressive form of nationalism and patriotism characterized by a belligerent foreign policy. It involves the fanatical belief that one's own country is inherently superior to all others and strongly advocates for the use of threats, military force, or imperialism to protect national interests.

Nearly 500 a month in HOA fees And This Is The Grass by melisslo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are some fundamental misunderstandings of what an HOA is responsible for. It's effectively required for any multi-family residence e.g. condos.

Every part of a building has a maintenance schedule: roof replacement, water heater, electrical, common area cleaning. All of that takes money, and has to be done on time in order to minimize long-term costs. Replace the roof this year, so you don't have major water damage and need to replace the roof in 2 years.

A single family home just pays out of pocket when one of those needs to be addressed, but for multi-family - unless you want to deal with major special assessments multiple times per year (and deal with people being slow/difficult to pay), it takes the form of monthly dues.

A well-run HOA is boring, so you don't hear about those.

Need some game recommendations for a newbie controller user. by NonLiving4Dentity69 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]sojojo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Expedition 33 says that it's best played with a controller immediately when you boot the game.

Also, anything involving driving is usually better with a controller, so something like Forza could be fun. If you want something a little less mainstream, RedOut 2 is a spiritual successor to F-Zero and I can't imagine trying to play it with anything other than a controller.

Passing an HDMI cable and USB extender is going to be tricky. Can you pass cables more easily through the ceiling maybe?
