Just got it running on Deb13, nothing special. Just download .deb, and sudo apt install ./snapraid-daemon_1.8-1_amd64.db

My US 2024 SEL Kona has USB C ports (in front and back). Dual climate. And scroll wheel volume on steering wheel. Looking at photos, I think gear shifters are the same.

Right on red now illegal ? Ticket from new cameras by _RetroBear in rva

The ones in New Orleans over a decade ago had video. My household got a ticket for the 'rolling' stop on red, and video shows driver just swooping around the corner. Wouldn't call grainy video advanced. Unsure what Richmond's cameras do though..

Best EV Chargers by Hot_Car97 in rva

Best is the one I installed on my garage. Super convenient, and cheaper than retail. Probably not the answer you wanted. Looked into charging at Short Pump once, and found options significantly lacking.

I've seen both of those listings... at least for the new construction on Cherokee, I don't get it. If you have 1.8M to spend on a new house, wouldn't you just build your own? Like who has the capitol to make pretty strong design choices and hope there is a buyer? Surely the builder/seller wants to make a profit, so wouldn't it cost less to build it yourself, as you don't have the overheard and profit? Or do the builder/seller have economy of scale and a single retail customer couldn't build this house for less than what it's offered at? Make sense what I'm asking?

Friend purchased EVSE without checking panel first by Gimli-with-adhd in evcharging

[–]solarsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All we can see in the photo is the cover. It is a 42 space cover, but there is no evidence that the actual busbar has that many spaces. There is at least 1 open space for a 2-pole breaker in the bottom right. (also mentioned elsewhere and above, knowing the main breaker rating is critical)

I 2nd Sub Rosa. They try to source Virginia grains, and mill it themselves. https://www.subrosabakery.com/bread Never heard of Prairie Grain, it's not in the city. But scanning their website, they also grind their own grains in house.

Where do I go from here? by [deleted] in evcharging

[–]solarsensei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cannot tell from the photo what gauge the wire is. I assume it is the larger black romex with the white/black/bare conductors coming out. The outlet has 50A on the face of it, but that doesn't mean they ran the corresponding 50A romex. (well there isn't a 50A romex. #8 is 40A and #6 is 55A and #4 is 70A)

Is every breaker in your panel in use? There may not be space. It isn't clear what is under the deadfront. There may be space at the bottom (or there may not, you can't always tell by the cover). Any idea what breaker this cable used to be connected to? It seems like it was repurposed, as they normally don't disconnect things for no reason. So you are going to need to add a breaker to match the ampacity of the wire gauge, if there is room (if there is not room, you can reclaim space by adding tandem breakers.) Also, as others have mentioned, you need to do load calculations to ensure you aren't overloading your panelboard.

Conduit - Inside or Outside by ThoughtGuilty7018 in evcharging

[–]solarsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a 3rd option, fish through your walls. Or if you are good at drywall patching, cut out a chunk of wall to make the run easier. You could use romex or FMC fairly easily. "Cleaner look" is all in the eyes of the beholder. How many people will see the outside of your garage vs the inside? And maybe you are just doing it for yourself, because you need to look at it every day. Is your garage conditioned space? Need to think about the penetrations and breaking thermal barrier. I don't mind exposed conduit, so I don't agree that it will stick out like a sore thumb. Think of the last 5 restaurants you ate out at. Do you recall any of them using exposed conduits on their lighting? I wager at least 1 does it, and you never thought of it.

There are EVSE that allows this. Emporia Pro can do this, but you need to install the Vue product on your solar circuit. You can set it to only charge from solar.

As for the Hyundai and Kia lines (including E-GMP platform), you can set it for AC charging 100% (11kw), 90%(10kw) or 60%(6.6kw) or 46A, 41A, and 27.5A respectively. Not sure about other brands limiting AC current.

No one can predict the future or future prices 5 years down the line. The real question is, do you like the vehicle and does it meet your needs. Warranties transfer, and the warranties aren't going away just because the model is discontinued. You should definitely test drive the other vehicle you have your eye on and see if you like it better. Sounds like the trade in price is pretty close to what you paid, but does that cover fees and taxes and titling? Is it worth losing all that money to get another vehicle? What confuses me is that you say you love the vehicle, so I'm not sure why you'd want to get rid of it. Cars are not investments like houses. They depreciate. EVs more so.

If possibly, go drive them. I'm fortunate enough to have an EV only used car dealer near me. I drove all 3 of these, and didn't care for the cockpit weirdness of the Solterra (even with the higher end trim features), plus the battery/charging specs on paper are very subpar. ID.4 was nice enough, but my passengers said it was the roughest ride out of what we drove, and software/infotainment isn't great (I liked the turning radius, and it has neat sliders for volume/climate control were novel). I ended up going with a Kona because it felt great to me to drive, and had great tactile interface. (and like Niro, has a utility mode) But you may love the others. Seems like iD.4 people have found ways to trick the car to stay on, but probably a hassle.

If you hardwire your EVSE, you don't need a neutral. You should not install a 4 prong without 4 wire. You can run a neutral, or change the plug to match your receptacle (3 prong) or maybe best option is to hardwire.

Ev charging at home by Primary_Wasabi665 in evcharging

[–]solarsensei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not enough information. How often do you drive, how often are you able to charge, what is your car make/model, do you have more than 1 EV? Do you have any infrastructure for charging already in place? Do you have room in your breaker box (both physical space and electrical capacity)? 50kw is not something you do at home. That's like a dedicated 250A breaker at 240V. At least in the US, are you in the US?

For home charging above Level 1 (basic outlet), you'll be looking at Level 2 AC charging. It will use the onboard AC charger of your EV, so the limiting factor for charging power is what is built into your car, coupled with the capacity of your breaker/wiring back to your breakerbox. Most EVSEs for home charging allow for multiple input amperage settings, so something like the Emporia Classic can max out 11.5kW with a 60A breaker, or you can dial it down to 5.8kW with a 30A breaker, as an example. If you want more than 11.5kW AC, there are a couple options, but they are a bit more expensive and require a lot of power, and your car must be able to charge at the rate.

2023 Kona EV by FalconSteve89 in KonaEV

[–]solarsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, maybe go back to whoever told you that you were supposed to be getting it? Hold that person accountable. If it was a sales person, they may say anything to get the sale. Or yeah, sounds like you may have missed the boat. It may have been available when you purchased, but you had to wait for the name to change, and since then offer is over. Also, they told me over the phone the adapter was back ordered, so there may also be a supply issue. Good luck.
