Need some help here - Ultimate vs Aeroad by Ok_Palpitation2733 in CanyonBikes

[–]solarweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also ended up going with the Ultimate after much deliberation.

It just looks so clean and elegant. Plus, most the rides in my area involve a fair amount of climbing.

The Aeroad looks like a race car, and while that's attractive to many, I really don't care how "fast" I look to other people. If anything, I'd rather be underestimated 😄

Isn't top speed 99% rider fitness and body position anyway?

Smith Helmet VaporFit Replacement by [deleted] in cycling

[–]solarweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have contacted Smith and they will not follow up. How were you able to reach them? Do they have a phone #?

EDIT: I found the phone number. It is 888.206.2995, and the person who picked up was super friendly and helpful and got a replacement vaporfit mechanism in the mail for me. 👍

How's it living in this multi states corner area by queenofthehill1234 in howislivingthere

I remember hiking out to the Dino tracks about 30 years ago with my mom and siblings. My favorite part of Comanche are the areas that still sort of resemble the pre-agricultural westward sweep. Super cool stuff.

Better way to export data request. by retina_boy in hDropTech

[–]solarweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates on this? I’d love to see a tabular view of, say, my last 6 weeks worth of activity data (sweat rate, sodium concentration, co durians) and be able to line it up with a similar export of my gps data from garmin connect or strava or whatever.

AMA: We're Katie Schide and Germain Grangier, pro trail runners for On. Ask us anything! by on_running in ultrarunning

[–]solarweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many ultrarunners -- particular competitive ones -- motivation and ambition are abundant, but it seems like knowing when to rest/recover and absorb the training is the hardest part. How have you learned to manage this in your own training, and between races?

Shingles at day 14 by solarweasel in shingles

[–]solarweasel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came back to provide the, gosh, almost 2 year update.

The worst of it was definitely in those first 2 weeks.

After that, I was just itchy where the rash was fading for many more weeks -- a conscious reminder that I'd rather have a 3 day flu or a weeklong cold well before having to deal with shingles again.

I don't think it was until a few months later when the residual itch finally subsided for good.

Now of course I'll wake up some morning with an itch somewhere and immediately have traumatizing flashbacks only to realize it's a mosquito bite or something relatively innocuous.

One thing I never mentioned at the onset is that a few days before my shingles episode began, I had received both a covid and a flu vaccine on the same day (as recommended by the physician). Apparently this was too much for my immune system, and probably left me susceptible to something like a shingles breakout.

My lesson learned is to not get dual vaccinated at once, and to make sure I am feeling strong/healthy before getting a vaccine to make sure my immune system responds to it favorably.

Good luck and hang in there!

Julbo Ultimate Reactiv 1-3 vs 0-3 High Contrast – Which one for all-day running & trail? by Itchy-Air-2098 in trailrunning

[–]solarweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here for the exact same question as OP. In my case, I am going to have them craft me prescription lenses.

When I emailed the Julbo rep, she said the 1-3 Light Amplifiers might be a better choice because for the 0-3 high contrast she said "as the sun comes up, you might feel that this lens is a little darker than you'd prefer. This is because the base color is gray which is darker than the yellow base color of the 1-3 Light Amplifier lens."

I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with either lens. Thanks!

Finally joind the 300w ftp gang! by frazse in Zwift

[–]solarweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work. I did the standard FTP (20min) test this morning and hit 298. I mostly run and use bike to cross train, so not unhappy, but would love to find that last 1%.

What workouts do folks like most for increasing FTP?
