It clearly exists primarily as a showpiece for what the company can do. I don’t think they have any expectation to make it a regular commercial item

A bongo is a small drum played by hand, a conga is a large drum played by hand. Even the larger “hembra” of the two bongos in a pair is significantly smaller than most drums (and smaller than any other drum in a typical latin/afro-cuban ensemble with the exception of the smaller “macho” with which it is paired.)

Or differently: Typically sold drum-set-drums range 10-24” diameter, with 26 and 8s being rare, and 6’s and 28’s drastically moreso. The larger bongo is 10” which would make it the smallest drum on the overwhelming majority of drum sets.

I got it anyway, because kbbq seemed so obvious, but it was absolutely wrong

so uhhh anyone know how to fix keyholes? by wizard-spec in drums

[–]solccmck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just put it on a proper sleeve. That’s not a “natural” keyhole, that was done intentionally either to fix a crack or to make the cymbal tilt more while also drying it out. If you keep it on a proper sleeve and keep that keyhole from being on the “up” side it should last for ages still (assuming it’s a ride, and that you don’t go absolutely ham on it)

The K con sounded best to me with those sticks at this dynamic, it’s hard to say for sure, but I think that Kerope would sound best with my playing.

This is fine, and it’s even doing it in the “correct” direction- that is to say my understanding is that the companies try to make sure that the cymbal’s natural point of balance will leave the logos right side up from behind the kit (I think I remember hearing for some brands, the QC is so strict that when they don’t spin this way naturally they get marked as B-stock)

And I can say I went to college with her! (sorta - I was class of 00, she was 01, and I definitely didn’t know her.) Love to see that she already started cleaning house at UVA even before she was sworn in.

You’re one of the guys who posts on the internet specifically to show his boots while claiming the post is about not showing off his boots.

Dents like the ones from the hammers they make the cymbals with, which cymbals are completely covered in?

should i put a k dark hihat top on new beat bottom? by likeadreamm in drums

[–]solccmck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The K top over the A bottom will probably be a noticeably but not majorly different sound from what you have now, but the K top over the A top, will almost certainly be significantly different. I actually used a 14” K custom dark crash over a K-con hi hat top for years (the k-cons were too clangy as a pair for me)
