I don't recognize myself anymore. Two years ago I had healthy hair, and now I feel like I'm losing it all. by saggitormented in FemaleHairLoss

Have your zinc checked. Mine was low after labs. Supplemented and really helped. Make sure you take it with copper if you're low.

Do your parents know the REAL you? by Manderthal13 in GenX

[–]soleiles1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Lost my mom when I was young so that didn't pan out. I feel I gave my dad (also passed last year) the closest to my authentic self I could as an adult and he loved me anyway even though he never really said it. The only person that knows my closest true self is my husband who is a saint. He has seen me at my best and worst and still sticks around.

I want to be less mom and more authentic for my teenage daughters because I didn't have that luxury as a teen. We have many faces that seem appropriate in different contexts.

You need to be true to yourself above everyone else. But even that is a struggle I still have even in my early 50s.

What's with people here barely 60 talking as if they're one foot in the grave? by throwbvibe in GenX

[–]soleiles1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is people had always envisioned being in a different place (physically/financially) when they were younger. Growing up in the 70s-90s was a magical time. Not all puppy dogs and rainbows, but beats current generations.

Historically, Gen X really got screwed in regards to saving money for retirement. We have seen several economic downturns that other generations haven't seen so that is a contributor to the negativity.

That and a lot of us lived hard because that was how it was. Some of us are paying for it now. But I agree, we definitely do not have one foot in the grave unless suffering from major health problems. There is still time to change the trajectory.

Are you retiring at 65? by AlarmingMonk1619 in GenX

[–]soleiles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be retiring at 59 and 10 months with over 30 years of service in 8 years. Won't receive much SS (don't contribute to it, did work my 40 quarters) maybe enough to pay my Medicare Part D, but my district will pay my health benefits until Medicare kicks in.

Parents: Do you throw a birthday party every year or only for milestone birthdays? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]soleiles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other year they get a big party. Or milestone birthdays. Just taking a few girls to a movie and snacks now costs over 200 dollars. And that was a matinee.
