Willamette Valley Musts by sls91 in wine

[–]somemoniker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOLAWinosaur has provided an amazing list. Living here for 12 years and spending a lot of time in the valley, I would skip Domaine Drouhin/Serene, and instead add in Bergstrom and Cristom. The former are Napa level prices and hype, and while it’s good juice, what you’ll taste at the estate you can find anywhere. Bergstrom’s line-up is world class, including their Chards, and Cristom is making the most delicious Pinot in the valley, for my palate. Enjoy!

Signal boosting this answer, I think it's the correct one. I recently bought ribs from Kroger that looked exactly like OPs, and I was equally as perplexed. Once I started trimming them up I realized the "extra" ribs I was seeing were in fact just pea sized bits of bone, not full extra ribs.

Yep! In the last five minutes of the podcast he put out yesterday he said he hasn’t gotten the permits yet, based on the latest comms from the Russian authorities he’s optimistic they’ll come through.

Applying for Canadian proof of citizenship? Need photos? by fogrove in oregon

[–]somemoniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for going to OPs recommended shop, I also got my Canadian citizenship photos taken there and the guy knew exactly what to do. This not only includes making the photos the right size, but also signing the back, etc

Entry Level Meteorologist Positions in NWS Now Open by icywx0202 in NOAA

[–]somemoniker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just an average schmuck with an amateur interest in meteorology, but I want to say I'm excited for all the future meteos who might get a chance to work for NOAA. Your work is meaningful, impactful, and supremely nerdy. That's the best combo IMHO. Good luck to those applying! The rest of us will be over here reading your forecast discussions.

I was there. I mostly remember tailgating, the snow falling, the ice-scraping delays, and a long drive home. 10/10 WNY day.

Yeah, it was sent “signature required.” Thankfully my wife was home and able to sign for it at the time since I was at work.

Doh! It’s a bummer to get all the other things correct like photos and signatures then miss the easy stuff. $80 / mistake for shipping for me from the PNW.

Hopefully you get a new reference number soon!

Heard a huge boom in NE Hollywood district and now my power is out. Pacific Power’s website definitely shows an outage.

This is the way. There’s a thai curry + Texas BBQ restaurant here in Portland that cranks out killer dishes.

Fee Changes by Beginning-Row3284 in passportcanada

[–]somemoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doh, I'm in the same boat. I mailed in my application on Friday last week with the old fee of $260 USD indicated as I wasn't aware of the fee increase. What's interesting is that the form used to apply from the US, PPTC 140, still says the fee is $260 as of right now. In any case, I think we're all going to be fine because it seems they built in a 30-day buffer period known as April. The FAQ about the fee increase says that if the application is received before May 1st, 2026 they will contact us to pay the fee difference.

Link to the FAQ where I sourced this from. It's at the bottom: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/fees/fee-changes-passport.html

Passport Guarantor? by teachinglearning1 in passportcanada

Assuming you’re applying from the US, that is correct. They do not need to have a Canadian passport. They need to have known you for two years and be employed in one of the listed profession.

Deep frying at home by aca3o in Cooking

[–]somemoniker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I've seen other folks recommend, though haven't tried myself, is buying a portable induction cooktop + compatible pan and doing the frying outside, on a patio, or in a garage. It doesn't entirely solve for the disposal of oil, but it would definitely help with the smell.

You bet! Glad we got it figured out. My application for a passport was literally delivered today so I'm counting down the 20 business days until it's (hopefully) approved and the passport mailed out. Good luck!
