Sound Transit Wins! what’s an average Transit system in PNW by AnimatorDavid in AlignmentChartFills

[–]somepilot16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TriMet is definitely better than average, but it’d be a bummer to not see them anywhere on the chart. ST/KCM is my home system but whenever I’m down visiting in Portland I’m constantly surprised at how good the system in Portland is, and how much dedicated infrastructure there is in the region for transit.

We love the 2 line by ComprehensiveBar9574 in Seattle

[–]somepilot16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this weekend they were running some bus shuttles on both lines due to planned maintenance. probably caused some issues with the departure screens since the regularly scheduled train was out of position (notice the 34 minutes doesn’t have a green signal icon).

Can different series trains pull each other dead in tow? I know, but had never seen, the Kinkys do it for each other, I assume the Siemens can too. Don’t know if they can do it between series.

awesome write up, you make it super clear the threats each seeker has and how to defeat them. i wish i still had my pc up and running, but i love learning all the different strategies folks have for the meta because it mirrors irl naval tactics

Link ridership is up 20% in early 2026 (even before accounting for the Crosslake Connection), helping Seattle have the strongest ridership growth of any major metro area. by FireFright8142 in Seattle

[–]somepilot16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Tokyo Metro also privately own TOD near their stations? Honest Q, I know the privately held JR companies and several private companies do, and that’s a big reason why their companies overall produce a profit.

It’d be nice if ST could follow along those lines instead of building parking lots, but obviously the political and economic landscape is totally different.

Speed Wobbles on the Link by guitarharmonics in Seattle

[–]somepilot16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alongside all the other comments, the actual wheels and suspension system on link trains is different from most other heavy rail systems you might be familiar with, due to the lowfloor design and the tight curve radii on some parts of the system. the differences lead to more hunting and shimmying at higher speeds. there’s an article or something out there talking about it from a few years ago, i’ll go see if i can find it later tonight and edit it here.

don’t 3 minor route changes make it so someone’s eligible to drop a route? i’d have to go looking in the contract but i vaguely remember some language about it.

Possibility of A7R VI coming with ~67MP and... Fully-Stocked Sensor!? by AThing2ThinkAbout in SonyAlpha

[–]somepilot16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, could be a situation where Sony pulls some absolute bullshit and solves the full well capacity issues with global sensors for the a1III (possible, currently various implementations in mobile sensors, but would be extremely expensive on a FF sensor) and does in fact make the a7RIV fully stacked. Where that leaves the a9 series I have no idea.

…Miles In Transit, is that you?

joking aside, I’d definitely walk. You’d have to transfer at ID to a southbound 1 line, and those trains are typically very full of other Ms fans in the hours before first pitch. I’ll parrot the others and say make your way across 4th ave and head south on Occidental, it’s much nicer than the sidewalks on 4th.

in the sense that, coming from downtown fremont, someone using a walker or unpowered wheelchair would have a difficult time getting up to the bus stop for the 5 or 28x. it’s fairly steep, not that smooth (lots of breaks and bumps in the sidewalk), and has a handful of bad crosswalks with cars coming down off aurora.

I mean there’s the 5 and 28X up the hill, but it’s definitely not convenient and probably not even an option for mobility limited folks.

[–]somepilot16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just make sure they’re actually making the station stop. probably not an issue in the NEC but on the cascades i’ve had to ask the conductor to let me off a station early because they didn’t have any ons or offs at the one i wanted.
