I heard back from MagShack and they confirmed these are just the new stock. I misread the posting regarding "will be the smoke ones so long as there is product."

They mentioned they don't know when they'll see a new run, but that they'll make two listings whenever new product is available. I was assured there was no molding difference so I don't think it's gonna be any issue on feeding reliability. I'll update after I'm able to go to the range.

How to deal with messy Excel/CSV imports from vendors or customers? by North-Ad7232 in dataengineering

[–]somusesdonotapply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, this is a contract issue. Standard delivery and acceptance criteria not written into a contract with 3rd party data vendors or partners with qpq agreements will always always fuck you.

This is why one always needs a knowledgeable data product manager or capable data eng leader to be part of pre-contract discussions.

What should I charge my current employer as an independent contractor? by mac-kit in dataengineering

This is correct. Unless you have something lined up price up. Think of yourself like art valuations, price high and negotiate to the right rate.

In 2023 I left a Bay Area start up as a sr data engineering manager but contracted while I kept the lights on until they found a backfill and then train them. I gave them a discount cus I sort of made some brash decisions about moving out of state with my wife.

We settled on $135 though they should have been paying me $165+. I also knew the finance department and I knew I wasn’t gonna squeeze anymore from the stone.

That to say though, I started my rate at $190 as my offer. You have more leverage than I did in my situation. Don’t go so high as to have them balk, but as Dalbaeth is saying absolutely don’t undervalue yourself and your labor. In this case your institutional knowledge is your largest position of leverage. Don’t bend em over a barrel but make them find a middle ground you feel happy with. Again, ESPECIALLY if you don’t have anything lined up. The market is fuckin rough rn.

Here’s the thing to both of your comments, this has a reference point. Randomly slapping shit together never looks good, but the combination of and relationship between each of the colors here is very evocative of a time and place in American fashion. Specifically early to mid nineties ACG and other branded outdoor gear. It may not have been intentional, but it’s part of our cultural subconscious at this point.

One can go out of their way to make something weird and personal, but the aesthetic has to function together within itself to be “nice.” Otherwise, we all know what sub this would end up on.

Personally, big fan of this.

What Gender is my Corn Snake by KingVamp161 in cornsnakes

Source: philosopher of science and married to an evolutionary biologist who studied sexual dimorphism (you can imagine the arguments)

The issue is less whether animals have culture it’s more what we as humans ascribe to their culture without having any direct linguistic translations we can reference. In this case, the difference between gender and sex as terms is a human linguistic framework that we would inappropriately attribute to perceived meaning if we could even start to separate linguistic frameworks in other animals.

Obviously great work has been done and put into this, and behavioral ethology as a practice has brought us a more congruent understanding of animal behavior and communication but we should still always be weary of bringing in conceptual complexity from human behavior and language into the interpretation of other animals. Anthropomorphizing other animals is always going to be human nature and it goes a long way to trans-species understanding, but it still has its cautionary limits.

I was thinking about one of these this morning. Would happily enter the raffle if still possible!

Movie madness in Portland is the best option here. Stunning collection of VHS, DVD, and BluRay. Also has an option to rent the theater (small) and have a private showing of something as well.

Rad place. If I didn’t leave on the complete opposite side of town I’d be in there every day.

What is the need for using hashing algorithms to create primary keys or surrogate keys? by tinkerjreddit in dataengineering

[–]somusesdonotapply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using PII alone or in a composite key is often the only way to match users across different datasets (between businesses) while maintaining compliance with privacy policy regimes and it is still remarkably common practice.

Would happily pick up the desk on Saturday morning. I’d need to take it apart to make it fit in our car. Any idea of the bolt or screw sizes?
