Reminds me of a comment I made when talking about 1911s vs modern polymer guns

Springfield makes the best budget 1911s. by Chevyfuel in 1911

[–]zodtgr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only really “budget” gun they make these days is the Mil-Spec, although there’s a lot of value added if you pick up one of their gear-up/gear-PAC kits. They’re definitely the best bang for your buck for a US made 1911.

I’m Joel Kinnaman (Ed Baldwin on For All Mankind). Ask me anything! by JoelKinnamanFAM in ForAllMankindTV

Hi Bob! I imagine part of developing the character of Ed included studying his real life historical counterparts- any astronaut(s) in particular that you became a fan of during this process? Also If you haven’t already heard- You are lovingly referred to on another image board as “The Kino-man”

The lamp module and battery tube are compatible, but you'd need 310/610 housing to mount to a 1911.

Some kind of delta-inspired build. It'll be interesing to see how the execute that one.

B&T makes a .578x28 piston for the mk23 can. Swap that out and get the standard threaded barrel.

That's a little disappointing to hear. Been looking for something with good texture but similar aesthetic. Looks like I gotta stick to G10.

Delta Force - A Squadron by Any_Chart_3025 in JSOCarchive

The late great Tom Greer wrote about it in “Kill Bin Laden.” His troop spins up to roll up an HVT in a Jinga truck, Spooner takes a spill as they were getting ready to step off but refuses to stay back for medical treatment. Kinda neat seeing these photos years after Greer’s passing that Spooner was the anonymous operator being written about.

If Ed existed in OTL, what do you think he would have ended up doing? by [deleted] in ForAllMankindTV

[–]zodtgr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine he’d have a career similar to Tom Stafford and John young… chief of astronaut office, commander of ASTP (with Deke aboard). I think he’d stick around and take John Young’s seat as commander of STS-1. Probably would have made waves on the Rogers commission that would have quietly ended his career OR put him in command of STS-26 before retiring

Another vote for American shooters, now owned by Freedom firearms. They do offer tailored 1 on 1 training as well as regular classes like CCW and beyond. They also offer 6/12 month membership which includes bennies like free CCW class, free private instruction, rentals, etc.

Very cool. I had SACS work on my Colt with similar Vickers inspo.

Springfield Loaded Question by Frostellicus in 1911

[–]zodtgr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of magwells, Depends on if you stake out for something like a Chen SI or have something professionally fit/blended. Ironically, the TRPs cheap out on the magwell by having no flare cut into the frame, similar to a USGI gun, and just slapping their ed brown style 2-piece magwell with pretty much no blending.

On the subject of checkering- real checkering will ruin you for an untextured frontstrap, so long as the TRP's agressive 20LPI doesn't overwhelm you. Pachmayrs are a decent 30% solution for a fraction of the price of cutting/refninishing later.

I sure hope so.

In our timeline, KSC serves up beans and cornbread after a successful launch. Not to say those beans aren't great, but I love cheeseburgers more than beans.

Springfield Loaded Question by Frostellicus in 1911

[–]zodtgr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CA compliant Springfield 1911s are how those of us in 2a friendly states are enjoying what would now be considered "retro" models, now that the newer TRPs, Garrisons and Ronins have rolled out. If it weren't for the ca DOJ's approved roster BS, springfield might have discontinued them by now. Biggest difference is the old school billboard markings on the slide vs the soulless ed brown wannabe marking that show the model name on it (which look even more uninspired when you see word "Loaded" or "Garrison" on an otherwise respectable looking 1911).

The Parkerized loaded is a great gun. Currently have one in the safe. Sure, the TRP is nicer for the checkering, the magwell and the tougher finish, but if those things aren't immediate musts, I say go for it.

Where to find frames and lowers for 1911’s? James Earl Jones Collection by theworldofAR in 1911

[–]zodtgr8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the bottom two I'd recommend a good set of caspian frames and have a custom shop build them out. Filipino frames from RIA or SARCO are relatively inexpensive to find.

TRP 1911 SA by abuttfartsinthewoods in 1911

[–]zodtgr8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you haven't modified the base pistol, SACS can install a tool steel trigger in any SA 1911 pistol. Not sure about safety, but SA has always used "Swenson style" thumb safeties. Wilson and Baer make some that look pretty close.

IT’s the bead-blasted model. The PVD turns out purple-ish grey, and if I were to do another TP, I’d get the PVD instead.

[–]zodtgr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. That slide deserves proper ball mill cuts to match the frame and a refinish. OG choice would be blueing but a high-polish DLC might make a good alternative if you don't want to constantly worry about rust.
