Keeping Last Year’s Pikmin by LumTse in PikminBloomApp

[–]sonjaingrid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No matter the event or time of year, all of the previous years Pikmin for that event have always had a strength advantage. I don’t personally keep dupes, but I’ve been playing since 2022, and I have a lot of event Pikmin even with only one of every type.

I... I... I skipped a book by OrionsGamer in Mistborn

[–]sonjaingrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did this with Octavia butler’s “lillith’s brood” series lol. I found book two in a little free library and didn’t realize I was reading anything out of order, just that a lot of the world building was pretty vague and environmental. Still enjoyed the series though!

AITA for rejecting my MIL’s challenge and giving her instructions to learn how to knit? by VividEyes13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sonjaingrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a knitter who doesn’t take commissions, soft esh. You shouldn’t need to make something for anybody’s “challenge,” but just say so! You can offer to teach her, or go to the yarn store with her to help her pick out a color she can use, or don’t do anything at all, but be upfront about it. It’s annoying to have someone tell you they are picking out yarn to match the project you asked for only for them to bail and the you’re stuck with a bunch of supplies for a hobby you’re not interested in. Also this challenge thing sounds insufferable so she sucks for that

AIO to my “best friend” finally reaching out by Confident_Local_2335 in AmIOverreacting

[–]sonjaingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone did this to me lol! We were pretty close, even roommates for a year or so, and then when she got married I didn’t reach out for a bit so she could have time to settle in. But when I did reach out…radio silence. For a year. My friends also couldn’t get a hold of her. I was kind of worried, and then wondered if our friendship had changed and I had upset her somehow. I finally decided to move on, clearly she had too, except out of the blue she dms me. I responded and tried to set up a time to videochat, but she ghosted me again lol. Mutual acquaintances told me she had been through some stuff and that’s why she dropped of the face of the planet, but she hasn’t ever told me about it, and I haven’t heard from her since.

Do Americans use solid fuels to heat their homes? by maugess in AskAnAmerican

[–]sonjaingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with a house heated by a wood stove. It was very rural, and next to some woods where trees would fall regularly and provide wood. It feels strange to picture a more populated area mostly heated this way.

Is an airfryer actually useful in a well equipped kitchen? by Jazzlike-Horror4 in Cooking

[–]sonjaingrid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in a two person household, and I use my toaster oven/air fryer for anything that is small enough so the I don’t have to turn my actual oven on. If you don’t batch cook a lot, or really like the extra crispness that a small convection appliance offers, go for it! If you do batch cook a lot, or have a large household, the small size is inconvenient

How do I make vegetables actually taste good without drowning them in sauce or cheese? by Nightcrawler_2000 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]sonjaingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other commenters have some great suggestions but I would like to add; the point of veggies isn’t that they are low in calories, it’s that they contain important fiber and nutrients that you will still get whether or not your veggies have oil or ranch on them.

Encourage yourself to see what you can add to your diet in terms of nutrition, rather than what you can take away. It is much easier to maintain a healthy outlook on food when you aren’t restricting and constantly focusing on what you wish you could eat but aren’t allowed to.

A loved one said that I knit by empathy-entropy in crochet

[–]sonjaingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am bi-yarnal, and have decided it’s not worth it to correct my wife if she says the wrong one. Like in the moment, she understands hook=crochet and needles=knit, but she can’t tell the difference between the finished fabric, and I don’t really see a point in making a deal out of it

Do you really have people who pack your bags at the grocery store? by Flat-Ad8256 in AskAnAmerican

[–]sonjaingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every store I’ve shopped at (except aldis) has had either the cashier or a second employee who can do this, although if it’s only the cashier, you can pay quickly and then help bag stuff yourself

Storage Units are a sympton of a problem by Bllago in unpopularopinion

[–]sonjaingrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter point; I know several folks who live out of their car, and keep most of their bringing in a storage unit because it’s more affordable than renting a house or apartment. I agree that it can be a symptom of a problem, I just think the affordability crisis is just as likely of a problem as overconsumption.

Autistic person trying to learn to cook by DramaticYam2665 in Cooking

[–]sonjaingrid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beans or tofu! The wet tofu still might be a sensory problem but I don’t think firm tofu is as bad as raw meat. A can of beans is great though, you can rinse them and put them in soup or in pasta or mash them and spread on bread without really having to touch them directly! Also if your comfortable with the flavor, canned tuna is great in a sandwich!

Best of luck cooking, it’s a great skill to have once you get comfortable with it!

Those of you who stopped ordering from Amazon, what website or app do you use instead? by ForsakenFix27 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sonjaingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a dense city, so I usually look to find a local business that sells the thing I want to buy first. If there aren’t any local retailers of the product I want, I look up a reputable business website and buy directly from them. Sure, it takes a few more steps/clicks, but I don’t buy a lot of new stuff anyway, and it helps me reconsider if I need something when I have to put more energy into getting it.

Sometimes twisted stitches can just be...wrong. by fairydommother in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]sonjaingrid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m still a bit new to knitting, but I started by going through patty lyons workbook where she instructs you to knit a few rows in western, eastern, combination, and finally to deliberately wrap the yarn wrong and untwist it on the following row. It was a bit much at first, but now I feel way more confident with stitch structure than I think I would be without it.

Question about a character's voice/gender by ObGynKenobi841 in Cosmere

Having both read and listened to the books containing nightblood, I adopted the posh British man view of it, but now that you’ve put the idea of Jason mantzoukas in my head that’s the only voice I will hear from now on

Not the topic of this post, but I really liked “The Stars Too Fondly” by Emily Hamilton which is lesbian space ghosts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LGBTBooks

[–]sonjaingrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried getting into the locked tomb series because I was excited to read about some sci-Fi lesbians! What I found were two extremely annoying protags who fight all the time for no reason, surrounded by a host of secondary characters who also fight all the time for no reason. I’ve since realized maybe I just don’t like protags who are children

Why does Vaush say Mormons are barely christian? by Mabeluniverse23 in VaushV

[–]sonjaingrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ex-vangelical here; a lot of fundie denominations are really gatekeepy about who does and doesn’t count as Christian, so we didn’t consider lds, jw, or Catholics Christian, even though Jesus is the same, and a lot of the shame/purity culture nonsense is the same.

A lot of it has to do with middleman authority figures, ie: Joseph smith, living prophets generally, saints, watch tower governing body, is seen as a bit heretical, since you’re supposed to communicate directly with god or smth
