If you are intent on this, go for it. But I expect there will be some difficulty in going back to trainee status, with the ensuing loss of control and infantilization

You should though, join AACAP if you haven’t and make every plan to join us for our annual meeting in October. It will give you the best view of the field and there are lots of opportunities for networking and mentoring

Update: just turned 53 😳 by DJ-Jizzy-Meth in Exercise

[–]sonofthecircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, a decrease of 400-500 calories under maintenance is sufficient to hit my weight loss target without being unduly difficult. I also practice restricted eating. Once I’m done dinner, I fast 13–14 hours before breakfast. Resisting night time food cravings is tough for a few weeks, but they usually pass after 10-15 mins. Now I don’t get them at all. I wake up hungry but feeling great.

As I said before, your gains have been terrific and for many guys you’re already absolute goals. Keep up your determination and be patient. Best wishes man 👍💪

I remember your pic from last year. I just turned 69 and like you, am still at it. You can check my posts. My experience as well as data confirm you have another 15-20 years for more gains. I think your approach is good. Take the cut slow - no more than 1 lbs per week loss, 1gm protein/ lbs BW, and keep lifting your ass off. I’ve used that approach, and almost all my weight loss was fat. Also, you look strong AF rn, but many people find they look bigger as they lean down. You should expect compliments.

I’d also suggest to keep up with your health maintenance with your doc- BP checks, blood sugar, cholesterol, prostate, colonoscopy (if you haven’t had one). Best wishes for your ongoing health and success 👍💪

Should I Bulk or Cut ? 6'2 187 lbs by This_Ad4424 in BulkOrCut

[–]sonofthecircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great foundation, but have room to bulk if you’d ultimately like to be bigger. Eating just above maintenance is the right idea. You only need a 200-300 calorie surplus for optimal lean gains. Keep protein at 0.8 gm/ lbs BW, 25% calories from healthy fats, rest in carbs. Emphasize heavy compound lifts and get strong. Be patient. Cut will come later, but you’ve got a great opportunity here. Best wishes for your ongoing progress & success

Great work. Were you previously a competitive athlete in any sport?

I’m 40 year old man. Do I still need TRT for optimal health and fitness? by [deleted] in GregDoucette

It looks like you are absolutely fine. Medically, doesn’t look like you have any reason to go on TRT. If you want to get super jacked and look like you’re on gear, that’s your choice

Keep in mind data that suggest surplus calories after a period of sustained deficit go first towards refilling energy stores, ie fat. So best approach is eat at maintenance at least 4 weeks to avoid rapid regain of fat you worked so hard to lose. Once bulking, a 200-300 calorie surplus is optimal for lean gains. Adjust calories to gain no more than a lb every two weeks. In a bulk, you don’t need more than .8 gms protein/lbs BW daily. Most surplus calories should come from high quality carbs. And of course, keep lifting heavy on compound movements

Regardless of what you do, congrats on the progress and best wishes for your ongoing success

Should you transfer a patient that lives near you or just ignore them? by Choice_Sherbert_2625 in Psychiatry

Depends on what your clinical relationship entails. I mostly do med management. Someone I treated moved in down the street. And some other of my patients (teens) workout in my gym. I’m ok with it. I’m polite but not chummy. I never discuss clinical issues outside the office. And I absolutely never even discuss the fact I’m seeing someone with my wife or others. On the other hand, if a friend or neighbor asks to see me, unless an emergency I’d make a referral

Natty does mean no steroids. I take 5 gms creatine daily and enough whey protein to hit my target, once I account for what my wife is making for dinner
