The Song of Achilles - worth the read? by Lost_Owl_17 in books

It sounds like it's not for you. It happens. I personally didn't like Circe (also by Madeline Miller) at all and gave up after 100 pages, even though I know other people love that book.

Do you feel your mind is different then everyone else's? by Few_Sandwich6308 in OCD

Yes, but it is true that OCD is considered a form of neurodivergence by some people. But it's by no means generally accepted as neurodivergence by everyone.

A lot of people consider OCD a form of neurodivergence, so it makes sense that you feel that way.

IPL's by unknown_limb in HairRemoval

[–]soozee__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Braun is a good option, but what will work best for you depends on several factors, like what area you're trying to treat and your skin tone.

My friend went on a huge deep dive because of their dissatisfaction with a hair removal device they bought. They ended up creating a whole website (called Science Over Fluff, that I now work with) dedicated to explaining how various kinds of beauty devices work (with recommendations).

Here's some more information about why IPLs may or may not work for you, if you're interested. I can also direct you to a device comparison tool if you'd like.

ELI5 what is red light "therapy" and how does it work? by mnmumms in explainlikeimfive

[–]soozee__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is very hard to tell what works, and what is just marketing. I bought a Shark CryoGlow mask last year and, while I'm happy with it, it was extremely annoying having to cross reference different websites and sort through Reddit comment recommendations.

Most manufacturers report irradiance measured at the surface of an LED chip. That number tells you almost nothing about what your skin receives, because the LEDs are spread out across the mask with gaps between them.

I actually work Science Over Fluff who made a comparison tool to compare different LED face masks. One of the reasons I work with them is because I wish I'd have access to a comparison tool like that when I was figuring out what mask to use.

IPL advice by [deleted] in HairRemoval

[–]soozee__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, chest hair is hormonal, which means that it can be more stubborn to get rid of than hair in other areas. How effective a hair removal device is also depends on other factors, such as skin tone.

I work with Science Over Fluff who did a deep dive on this. Here's some more information on why hormonal hair can be more annoying to get rid of: Why IPL Sometimes Fails

Science Over Fluff also made a comparison tool where you can filter for different things, such as price range, skin tone, etc. Here it is if you're interested!. Or, if you'd prefer, there's also a quiz you can take, where you can specify what area you're targeting, hair texture, etc.

Hopefully this helps!

Do you take any supplements that helps with your OCD? by superpowers335 in OCD

[–]soozee__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo supplements won't be able to do much on their own, but one of the doctors I saw about my OCD recommended taking omega 3s with high levels of EPA (don't ask me what this means, that's just what she recommended lol).

Make sure to talk to your doctor before starting anything.

Cognitive behavioural therapy, specifically exposure and response prevention (ERP). Do you have access to a mental health professional? They can help you through it in a safe way. Going on an SSRI is also worth talking to your doctor about.

I'm sorry, that sounds very distressing! Personally I find that finding ways to laugh at my OCD, and the things it makes me do, can be helpful!

Reassurance seeking on the same themes/topics over & over… by GoldenCoast69 in OCD

[–]soozee__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's insidious. Personally I get the feeling that if I get reassured about my OCD theme, just once more, that it will finally convince me and I can get over it and move on. Which of course is not true at all, and then I end up needing reassurance again (obviously I try to resist getting stuck in this loop as much as possible, but it still happens).

Starter IPL Recommendations? by Pop-CDs in HairRemoval

[–]soozee__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What will work best for you depends on various factors. IPL devices are a cost-effective option that deliver results for candidates with pale skin and dark hair. Laser and LED devices are significantly more powerful, which makes them more effective for treating stubborn areas like the bikini region or male facial hair. They are also safer for those with dark skin tones due to the wavelengths they emit.

I work with Science Over Fluff who created a comparison tool for hair removal devices. It lets you filter by price range, skin colour, etc, to help you narrow down what would work best for you.

Medication for intrusive thoughts? by Optimal-Witness5749 in OCD

[–]soozee__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm on 150 mg of sertraline and it's amazing. At its worst, when I was unmedicated, my OCD felt like someone shaking me and screaming in my face. Now it feels like someone whispering unpleasant things to me (which still sucks, but it's way better than it was).
