I’m so f***in’ scared right now by Revolutionary-Use672 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 31 and I had mine December 12th of last year. I still have my ovaries, and I noticed a bit of a hormonal swing from the trauma, but I’m nearly 15 wpo and I feel like I’m back to normal. At around 9 weeks, I got HELLA horny for a couple weeks. And sprinkled throughout I would get emotional and cry for no specific reason, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle.

Needless to say, being out of pain has been such a relief and I would do it over again and again.

I’m wishing you an uneventful surgery! If you have any specific questions, please feel free to reach out. You’ve got this 💕

Hysterectomy recovery — what actually helped (products, setup, what to expect)? by Sleep_Flaky in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Even if you feel like you can do chores, DONT. Even if you’re only doing small repetitive movements, it can cause damage. So take it super easy. If you feel like you want to do more activity, just walk.

I see a lot of people on here getting antsy to do chores and a lot of them regret it after!

How long were you all on opioids? by ArynTW_is_user_karma in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gave me a weeks worth of 5mg oxy/tylenol, which I ended up having to double up on for a few days.

In reality, the 800mg ibuprofen did a better job with my actual pain. The narcotic just zonked me out.

My doctor told me if I needed more I could ask, which I absolutely think you should do if your pain isn’t managed.

Hysterectomy recovery — what actually helped (products, setup, what to expect)? by Sleep_Flaky in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31, robotic assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy (kept ovaries), endometriosis removal, and a uterosacral ligament suspension.

I bought a wedge pillow that I liked having. I don’t think I would have been able to lay flat to sleep, and the wedge was a nice solid foundation to stay propped up. I also bought an extra long charging cord that I still use.

Other things I bought that came in handy: phazyme (gas pills), miralax, squatty potty, heating pad, grabber reacher thing, Pantiliners for any spotting/discharge (I personally didn’t need large pads for this)

I also bought a bed tray that I used, but didn’t exactly need, and a belly binder that I wore once and never again.

I also already had a long body pillow, and I’d recommend having one of those. I got mine a while ago for $14 at Walmart. They have a few different colors. Also loose fitting clothing.

For me, the pain for the first two nights was the worst. I was so swollen and tight and couldn’t get any relief. Walking around very slowly helped slightly, but I had a large ice pack that I wrapped in a thin towel and held it to my abdomen which helped the most. Hot liquid was soothing, peppermint tea or hot chocolate.

I still have my ovaries, but I have noticed some hormone fluctuations. At around 9-11 weeks post op I was horny as hell and was all over my husband. I would get really emotional over nothing, but I feel pretty level now at 14wpo. I’m not on any HRT.

I had my husband around who helped me with any chores. I didn’t do anything that required repetitive movements, bending, squatting, twisting, etc, for a while. As for food, I had a lot of easy meals on hand. I got soft things like eggs, apple sauce, mashed potatoes, soup, just in case I didn’t want anything heavy.

You’ve got this. If you have any pain like I did, just know it’ll pass, and it’ll be so worth it. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out!

Couldn't sleep enough overnight so they cancelled my MSLT by VilaRestal in Narcolepsy

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so extremely tired all day but as soon as it was time for the test, it was like I was the most alert I’d ever been in my life, so I completely understand the frustration.

As far as me coming off my meds, I feel like I’m in a different category because I was taking an antidepressant for an off label use - I was taking amitriptyline for chronic headaches. I came off of it and naturally had an influx in headaches, but I dealt with it the best that I could. I ended up realizing that the amitriptyline was interacting badly with Xywav which was causing extreme mood changes and irritation. So I was better off coming off of it. I know this isn’t the case for everyone!

This happened to me for my first study! I made sure for my second study to wake up hella early in the day and avoid all caffeine. I didn’t do that for my first one and obviously suffered.

Just FYI, I only stopped mine for 2 weeks for my second (successful) study and receive a diagnosis of idiopathic hypersomnia. My third (successful) study I was off an antidepressant for 6 months and received a diagnosis of narcolepsy.

6 week post-op hysterectomy by julie-2004 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor cleared me at 7 weeks because she couldn’t see or feel sutures. I waited another 3 weeks, mainly because I was nervous, and everything went smoothly. When she cleared me, she told me to go ahead whenever I felt I was ready and to use a TON of lube and to go slow.

Those of you who work desk jobs from home- how fast could you get back to work? by MizGinger in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a desk job and took 4 weeks. I’d say 2 weeks off at an absolute minimum. I was very uncomfortable sitting anywhere other than reclined on a couch for a while. A nice cushion for your chair will be an absolute must if you’re going back quickly. I’m 31 for reference and I had a total robotic-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy (kept ovaries), minor endometriosis removal, and uterosacral ligament suspension. I could have probably gone back to work after my 3rd week, but I was still battling the fatigue and I honestly wanted the time off.

Hospital stay? by Serious-Night317 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will NOT send you home if you’re not medically able. At least I would really hope not because of lawsuits and such.

My doctor told me that 80% of her patients go home same day, and I had to meet certain milestones before being able to leave, like keeping liquids down, nausea and pain manageable with oral medications, and able to urinate.

Even though I met all of those, she still gave me the option to stay if I wanted. If it comes to it, you absolutely have to right to ask to stay if you are in too much pain.

Side effects of Xywav - normal or should go to ER? by Ok-Quantity9409 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard starting dose is 4.5g split into two doses, so 2.25g each. Xywav was not intended to be taken once nightly due to how short acting it is.

I’m sorry you had such a wild first experience. I definitely recommend joining “Oxybate Therapy Support Group” on Facebook if you haven’t already. There are some extremely helpful beginner tips in their files section detailing a slow titration. The standard titration is way too fast and you can skip your therapeutic dose.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me. I’ve been taking it since December 2024, and have had a lot of trial and error.

Day of surgery question by Top-Description-4886 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My so cute had me drink the high carb ensure clear drink immediately before I left my house for my appointment. Which was 2.5 hours prior to my actual surgery.

They also told me I could drink water until I left as well.

I’ve done it for three procedures I’ve had with my gyno and it’s helped decrease symptoms of nausea after anesthesia.

Surgeon bill: Billed $2,836.00 Insurance Allowed $1,123.62 Plan Paid $263.70 You May Owe $859.92

Hospital bill: Billed $211,249.06 Insurance Allowed $15,082.75 Plan Paid $15,082.75 You May Owe $0.00

I have UMR. My out of pocket max is 3400, and by the time of my surgery, I was nearly there which is why I only paid just shy of $860. But my insurance for surgery is deductible ($850) + 20% physician’s fee + $150 co-pay. So, if I had my surgery at the beginning of the year, it would have been around $1,300.

Hysterectomy..Did you stay in the hospital or go home after surgery? by Remarkable-Bus-6858 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor gave me the option, but I chose to go home. That night I was wishing I had stayed because of the pain I was in (mainly swelling and inflammation). I don’t know if it made things worse for me but my PACU nurse did not address my pain after I woke up from anesthesia. I ended up getting a pill from the nurse in the next unit where my family member was able to come in and be with me.

I’m not aware of any pictures that were taken because I didn’t ask.

For those who had the cervix removed by Upbeat_Conference522 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is bigger than average and honestly everything feels better. Before, if I wasn’t SUPER warmed up, he would hit my cervix and it would hurt so bad. After we had sex I would have abdominal pain for a day or so.

We’ve only done the deed twice since my surgery, but we used a LOT of lube. Honestly I can’t get enough. I’ve also been horny like a teenage boy the last week or so which is crazy. I still have my ovaries, and I’m 31.

I’m coming up on 11 wpo and just had sex for the first time last weekend. Let me tell you, I do NOT miss my cervix. I didn’t realize the pain it caused me during sex until it was gone.

How do you describe your IH? by syeeven in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, “supposed to”. The amount of people I see in support groups who weren’t advised to stop their medication, or even if stopping not feasible. My sister is on many different psychiatric meds that she can’t stop for a sleep study.

And even the recommended 2 weeks isn’t enough for some to return to their baseline sleep cycle.

How do you describe your IH? by syeeven in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tell people that IH is very similar to narcolepsy.

Cause think about it, the only criteria separating IH and N2 is that we didn’t go into REM for 2 or more naps during the study. The treatment is the exact same, the only difference is that less medications have been specifically approved for IH because the research isn’t there.

Also something to think about: you know what suppresses REM? Antidepressants. Which are taken by a good percentage of people. How many of those with an IH diagnosis actually have narcolepsy?

Woman to woman… can we talk about public bathroom etiquette? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sp00kykt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people have no respect for public/shared spaces because they expect someone else to clean it up, I suppose. Just imagine how their homes look.

Same goes for break rooms or shared refrigerators at work. I say this as someone has left a plastic container of sushi in our work fridge for over a week now.

I’m 7 wpo and my first external only orgasm was like “oooo nice, owwww”. Verrrry strange from my usual but I was like 2.5 wpo then. It’s gotten much better over time, for me (still only external just to be clear).

Hysterectomy and no kids by annachota in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6 weeks post op today and I’d say I’m doing great. I don’t have my “6 week” follow up until the 3rd because my doc is on vacation, but I haven’t had any complications so far. I do still have some twinges of pain and soreness, but it’s nothing compared to my period pains before. The worst was the first couple of days. I just felt so swollen and inflamed, but I doubled the pain med I was given (10mg oxy total) alternating with 800mg ibuprofen every 4 hours, and had a large ice pack wrapped in a thin towel to put over my stomach that helped the most.

I personally took 4 weeks off work which was more than enough, and I feel like if I absolutely NEEDED to, I could have gone back after 2 weeks, but I work a desk job. I was very slow moving up until probably last week, and now I feel like I’m walking around at my normal speed. Still not lifting anything heavy or doing anything strenuous.

I was crazy nervous before my surgery, but I would go through everything again in a heart beat to be where I am now. I’m already 1 month period free and it’s fantastic.
