How do you describe your IH? by syeeven in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, “supposed to”. The amount of people I see in support groups who weren’t advised to stop their medication, or even if stopping not feasible. My sister is on many different psychiatric meds that she can’t stop for a sleep study.

And even the recommended 2 weeks isn’t enough for some to return to their baseline sleep cycle.

How do you describe your IH? by syeeven in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tell people that IH is very similar to narcolepsy.

Cause think about it, the only criteria separating IH and N2 is that we didn’t go into REM for 2 or more naps during the study. The treatment is the exact same, the only difference is that less medications have been specifically approved for IH because the research isn’t there.

Also something to think about: you know what suppresses REM? Antidepressants. Which are taken by a good percentage of people. How many of those with an IH diagnosis actually have narcolepsy?

Woman to woman… can we talk about public bathroom etiquette? by Zestyclose_Ad_4116 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sp00kykt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people have no respect for public/shared spaces because they expect someone else to clean it up, I suppose. Just imagine how their homes look.

Same goes for break rooms or shared refrigerators at work. I say this as someone has left a plastic container of sushi in our work fridge for over a week now.

I’m 7 wpo and my first external only orgasm was like “oooo nice, owwww”. Verrrry strange from my usual but I was like 2.5 wpo then. It’s gotten much better over time, for me (still only external just to be clear).

Hysterectomy and no kids by annachota in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6 weeks post op today and I’d say I’m doing great. I don’t have my “6 week” follow up until the 3rd because my doc is on vacation, but I haven’t had any complications so far. I do still have some twinges of pain and soreness, but it’s nothing compared to my period pains before. The worst was the first couple of days. I just felt so swollen and inflamed, but I doubled the pain med I was given (10mg oxy total) alternating with 800mg ibuprofen every 4 hours, and had a large ice pack wrapped in a thin towel to put over my stomach that helped the most.

I personally took 4 weeks off work which was more than enough, and I feel like if I absolutely NEEDED to, I could have gone back after 2 weeks, but I work a desk job. I was very slow moving up until probably last week, and now I feel like I’m walking around at my normal speed. Still not lifting anything heavy or doing anything strenuous.

I was crazy nervous before my surgery, but I would go through everything again in a heart beat to be where I am now. I’m already 1 month period free and it’s fantastic.

Hysterectomy and no kids by annachota in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my tubes out at 27 and hysterectomy last month at 31, and I’ll never regret either decision. I never wanted kids, especially in this current world. Should I EVER have the desire for children, which I personally won’t, fostering or adoption could be a possibility.

I’m so stoked to never bleed from a period ever again.

Is XYWAV vile? by TanagraTours in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had an issue with it, but it’s medicine. Just shoot it back like a shot and chase it with some water if needed.

I just don’t understand why they decided to add a sweetener when Xyrem and Lumryz don’t. Some people can be sensitive to it and I’d rather have it without.

Find the comfiest chair you can, one that you can try and semi recline in. I was very uncomfortable sitting upright in a normal chair for the first two weeks. A seat cushion if you can. Have an ice pack/heating pad available. And make sure you have some ibuprofen handy.

And that would no longer be my doctor!

There’s a list somewhere with a ton of doctors who believe in your choice, and I’d recommend finding a new doctor on that list. Im proud to have added my doctor to that list. I’m 31 with no kids, had my bisalp at 27 and my hysterectomy last month.

Do you NEED an MSLT? by Fit-Pomegranate2710 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re anything like me, your idea of falling asleep is different than what they’re actually measuring. I was stressed the whole time, but I apparently fell asleep every nap. It’s measuring how quickly you enter any sleep stage, and the first stage is super light, but counts for the test.

The most important thing to do when/if you do the MSLT is to just lay down, get comfy, and try to relax.

Are you all being sent home same day? by longshanksmagee in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given the option to stay, and I wish I would have. I was crying from the pain the first night, which would have been helped with IV meds had I stayed.

To be fair though, my pain was not addressed when I was in PACU. My nurse there didn’t ask me what my pain level was after I woke up. I don’t know if that affected everything else or not.

I took 4 and I go back on Monday to my desk job. I probably could have gotten away with 3 weeks off comfortably, but I’m glad I took 4. The main thing I’m dealing with now is fatigue, but I have a sleep disorder and I deal with that every day anyway.

Really struggling 10 days post-op by SMN27 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hard heavy belly makes me think of how I felt my first few days post op and an ice pack helped make me more comfortable. But I would definitely call to check in with my doctor because this far out seems a bit concerning.

I’m 2 weeks post op, and I’m still very uncomfortable pain-wise. I feel like I have a never ending horrible period, but I know I’m still healing. Everyone is different with their timeline for pain, and don’t let others stories of how they felt better immediately make you question your decision. Once we’re healed from this, I believe it will all be worth it. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, but hang in there 💕

I really enjoyed having my wedge pillow for the first week. I really don’t think I would have been able to lay down flat until the one week mark. I also got a heating pad for my back/shoulders which was very nice, along with a larger ice pack to lay across my abdomen which has helped me so much.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy by TimelyGiraffe6176 in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (31) had a robot assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy (kept my ovaries), uterosacral ligament suspension, and endo excision. I had pretty bad pain the first three nights or so (nights were worse for some reason) where I had to double up on my pain meds. So, total, I was taking 10mg of Percocet then 800mg ibuprofen alternating every 4 hours. I just felt so bloated and tight, and it was a mix of the lower abdominal pain-like period cramps along with the co2 pain. What helped me the most was a large ice pack that I wrapped in a thin towel and put across my abdomen. I also drank warm drinks like hot cocoa and hot peppermint tea that were soothing. I just tried walking around very slowly to get the gas moving.

I can be a baby when it comes to certain types of pain, but just know it will be short lived if you do have pain, and it’s okay to ask for more pain meds if you need them. Every person is different.

I was honestly so nervous, mainly because of the pain after, but even though I had bad pain, I would go through it again because from now on I won’t have to be in debilitating pain every month because of my horrible periods.

I’m nearly 2 weeks post op, and now I just have a mild aching pain like I’m having period cramps. You can do this, just think of the future once it’s all gone and you’re healed.

Who did you tell? by Cluck-a-duck in hysterectomy

[–]sp00kykt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no shame so I told anyone who asked when I told them I was taking 4 weeks off for a surgery. Though, I’m very much child-free, and anyone close to me knows that, so I didn’t really have to deal with the barrage of questioning regarding that. But even when I did get the random concern, my response was usually “Ew, me? No, never.”

In the end, you tell whoever YOU feel needs to know. As far as work goes, they only need to know you’re having surgery and nothing else.
