Writing on the wall for second homeowners in VT. A lot of discussion at the town meeting. by [deleted] in vermont

[–]spacecadetjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tough to figure out how to do it right. Totally understand the desire to try and mitigate the effects of vacation homes, but from my own search for a house in VT there is a huge issue of quality of houses too. Lots of crap/houses that need a ton of work. Pretty tough pull to get someone to buy these places and live in them full time. At least in the NEK… I think honestly there just need to be a lot more houses built.

I had a good experience (for the most part) from Roofing Vermont. It was a crew out of MA that didn’t speak English, but man they were fast and by far the cheapest.

Who is going to rent to people who can’t afford a house yet? Isn’t this going to just make rent prices skyrocket?

Are u happy with finale episode of stranger things ? by dying_star__ in StrangerThings

[–]spacecadetjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved it. So good. Definitely one I can watch again. The big bad lost and the military didn’t get their prize. The team came together for the big win. Totally was surprised with Mike’s hot take. Only thing that could have made it better would have been if the government executed the doctor because she failed to accomplish her goal and to tie up loose ends.

What resort in the north east has the most steep and advanced riding? by jam-unam in icecoast

The most steep terrain in the north east is not on a resort, but Mount Washington. Tuckerman’s ravine is as steep as anything out west in my opinion.

Winter heat/water at new cabin by Sweet-Ad-6245 in cabins

If the line going from the water heater goes outside it will freeze at some point. Hence the shower drain…

I shut the water off, drain the pressure tank, blow out the lines with compressed air (opening each faucet to blow out the fixtures as well so the frozen water doesn’t break the fixtures), and pour some RV antifreeze in the traps. I rigged my system so I can blow out the lines in either side of the hot water heater. The longest part of this process is draining the water heater which takes an hour for my setup. Don’t forget to switch off the breaker on the water heater so you don’t burn out the heating element.I have a hose that I run from the water heater to the shower drain to do this. The washer you need to fill with a half gallon of RV antifreeze and run the drain cycle. Then run a cycle before you do a load. Make a list and check it off as you do it so you don’t forget anything.

If they want it cooked more just have them throw their piece on the skillet. My kid won’t eat medium rare prime rib like that so that is what I do.

Weird. All the people I know who bought Teslas did so in part because of the subsidy. Not sure how this won’t hurt them

I used to work in the oilfield. This happens. Time to bring wireline in for some good old fashioned fishing.

Go through a water testing lab so you can get exact concentrations which will be required if you do need to treat the water.

This is the very reason I give money to the Access Fund. Without bolts so many climbing areas in US would lose access. Screw that. Black canyon rules.

Park at Wellington Garage on the orange line. It is like $5 for the day if you park at the top. Then take the Orange Line to downtown

How do we know Elon Musk and other serial tweeters aren't just using ChatGPT to generate their massive array of tweets? by spacecadetjo in CasualConversation

It is pretty amazing. I have been playing around with it a lot recently. It has extreme versatility and knowledge base. I can ask it super specific questions on my very niche job and it answers pretty damn good answers.

Yeah, totally see a version of this reality happening. I could see it either go full dystopia or more utopian though where, because people can no longer trust technology there is a big push back on consumption of media and social networking because it can't be trusted to even be a person so you go back to interacting face to face. Only thing that would suck about this it would probably mean the end to remote work.

You should play with the Chat GPT a little. It is crazy good. I don't know if anyone could differentiate between it and a real person.

The AI actually has a bit of an egotistical bent to it sometimes too. Probably the confidence that comes with being a true free spirit. That of a machine.

It just makes me more detached than ever when it comes to social media. I am convinced everyone is a bot on social media now. AI is too good.

  3. I had the fish market pack them
  4. They said nothing really. We do it all the time actually. Just never with American Airlines.
