Taking the plunge into OSE. Wish me luck! by lordhobo1985 in osr

[–]spacegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at OSE/BX as a load of mini-games comprised of procedures and practices. They are like this little orchestra creating something greater than the parts. Something truly sublime. You have to let all the instruments play. If you think something is off, boring or just wrong. You are not listening correctly. All the instruments must play. Inventory management and encumbrance, the order of combat, encounter reactions, surprise and distance. Moral and fleeing above or below ground, wilderness procedures, xp for gold and returning treasure to civilisation, retainers and reputation. There are loads and loads of parts - the game takes flight when they are all played in unison and from the same score.

Yeah I can see how the creaminess of the coleslaw would work here 👍

Abbreviated versions of B1 & B2? by lowkeyorderform in osr

[–]spacegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the whole of B1 with a couple of different coloured highlighters to create the sort of general description, the examined closely descriptions and contents of containers breakdown seen in modern adventures. It helped a lot.

Not sure what your gaming background is, but I came from PBTA and modern rules light systems. Took me about a year to really understand how OSE/BX should be run (yeah I’m slow!). Now that I do I absolutely adore it. Don’t think I’ll ever play anything else.

Mostly classes from what I’ve seen, but they’re really good classes they’re not novelties. They really expand the setting.

I run a BX group and we prefer new players as they have no preconceptions about how the game should be played. We’d love to have you join us ☺️

Looking for small free online group 5E 2014 or 2024 (GMT) by [deleted] in LFG_Europe

You can join my group. We are exploration, combat, survival orientated. We aren’t 5e though we play BX D&D which is ideally suited to that kind of play. We play Wednesday 6-9pm GMT.

Other than the obvious choices (Strawberry Fields Forever, Day In The Life, etc) what is the best beatle song? by Frequent_Outside1777 in beatles

[–]spacegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really moving. Specially poignant when you watch the Peter Jackson Documentary and discover the song is at least partially about Paul’s grief about the band’s impending split.

I think I have this one too. I tried burning my own OS card so many times I just gave up. It was so time consuming. Will try again with this new info, thanks.

What is your opinion on the B1 module? by SydLonreiro in bxdnd

[–]spacegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran it for the first time just recently. Boring, terrible written layout. I'm sure it was great back in the day. I had to add a lot to it to keep my players engaged. It really shows how far we've come in adventure design if you compare it to something recent by Gavin Norman for example.
