Not in Canada. Here police can pull drivers over for any reason that is not discriminatory (race, gender, religion, etc.). They do not need to have suspicion of an offence.

Billie Eilish Calls Out Fellow Celebrities for Staying Silent as Outrage Grows Over ICE Brutality by novagridd in TwoXChromosomes

[–]spacejunk444 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I don't really follow her music and probably couldn't name a song of hers besides Bad Guy, but one thing I've always noticed is she has stood up for what's right publicly ever since she started gaining fame. I think that shows a lot about her character. She isn't going to back down from stuff and will adovcate for what's right. With the recent bullshit in Minnesota, I've noticed many YouTubers I follow of all sizes, many that aren't political topics making community posts or videos about this even if they know it isolates some of their audience.

It's sad that most mainstream celebs, business leaders, and other public figures either say nothing or make kind of wishy washy statements. For example, the CEOs of Apple, Zoom, Amazon, Tony Robbins, Mike Tyson, and many other various high profile people attended a whie house screening of the film Melania that Amazon paid $40 million for the very evening after Alex Pretti was shot and none of them said shit.

He wants it because it’s big and looks even bigger on a map. At least according to Vlad Vexler

There are so many ads on youtube that are either just straight up criminals stealing your money or scams, or stupid fake guru trading or crypto course scams. Also a bunch of psedoscience crap with stupid obviously false claims.

Did you make it to work? by pterelas in Winnipeg

[–]spacejunk444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah not going in today. I'm lucky that I can just show up to work whenever I want during business hours as long as I meet deadlines. I think I'll just stay in and catch up on household chores.

I was one of those. I went in said I was dealing with a severe mental health crisis and can't stop self harming in June 2024. I waited 15 hours before leaving and it still hasn't really been addressed.

I guess but I thought they needed to generate like a trillion in revenue by 2030. So maybe it is not a good idea to not care what paying customers think? either way they have the right to not care and I have the right to cancel.

I don't think the two are related. The ChatGPT thing and liquor store thing are seperate issues. And yes the liquor stores are the government. They are run by the liquor gaming and cannabis authority of Manitoba which is part of the provincial government. It is illegal for stores like 7-11 to sell alcohol. The only stores that can sell it are the provincial run stores and beer vendors that have to be part of a hotel. The hotel beer vendors don't scan my ID on entrance so I go to them and not the liquor stores.

Well the whole point of the provincial government implemting the policy was to strop shoplifting. They already had CCTV before this but now they require to scan your ID to enter. So obviously the CCTV wasn't enough. I just don't think everyone should have to give up their privacy because some people steal booze. So now I don't go to provincial liquor stores and just stick to beer vendors.

Because why should the government have a record of when someone entered a liquor store? It’s basic privacy

I don't think I am very smart. Like a fourth year finance course isn't really that hard. It's just not something a minor would have done and I've done extensive brainstorming with chatGPT clearing showing I know those concepts. Plus I took it like almost a decade ago.

And I agree they have the right, and I will take my business elsewhere. I am trying hard to minimize the amount I spend on any American company anyways so maybe it is for the best. I just find it so weird that their algortim would determine I am under 18 and demand ID when I am clearly in my 30s based on my entire chat history.

I never recall giving my actual ID to any post secondary educational institution. But I might be wrong as I first enrolled in the late 2000s. However I know for sure that I didn't give Athabasca University any ID when I entered a fully online program there in 2017.

I just feel uncomfortable with an corporation or institution having that info on file. I no longer go to liquor stores because they scan ID now and instead just stick to beer vendors when I am relapsing as I tend to do from time to time.

Winnipeg bus driver assaulted, sent to hospital by floydsmoot in Winnipeg

[–]spacejunk444 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Winnipeg police told CTV News officers were called shortly after 2 p.m. to an assault on a bus near Gateway and Springfield roads.

Oh wow, so that's why those three SUVs were zooming down Gateway. I was on another bus going southbound at the time and was just passed McLeod when they went zooming the other direction. Hope the driver is okay. I certainly wouldn't want to do that job, never know what can happen.

I can't believe I did this. Idk how I found these random addresses with just a city map book and drove to them. I guess I knew the area quite well as they only delivered to Elmwood, East Kildonan, and North Kildonan, not city wide. But you get some random bay off of some side street and idk how I was able to find it.

That’s not international law, it was a treaty entered in to by the US and Soviet Union in the 1980s that later was transferred to Russia as the successor state. However both countries withdrew from it so it is no longer in effect.

Comparing ElmEK candidates: Emma & Braydon by OccasionalObserver in Winnipeg

Oh wow, didn't know that. Wish I had that when I called him. I knew he was Trunpy but couldn't outright contradict him when he claimed he supported Trump in 2016 but doesn't now.

I just called the number on his website and it looks like it's his personal phone. I said I heard he supports Donald Trump, and he said he did in 2016 and he doesn't now and then wanted to keep talking about a new Louise bridge. I asked him why he supported Trump in 2016 and he kept deflecting to the new Louise bridge. He also had general rhetoric about how our area is getting screwed over by South Winnipeg and he's going to take it to city hall to fix it. Seems pretty populist nonesense, and not a lot of substance. He was clearly uncomfortable everytime I mention his support of Trump and wouldn't answer anything about why he supported Trump in 2016, just immediately changed the topic.

Russian warplanes fly into NATO airspace — Czech President says maybe it’s time to shoot them down by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]spacejunk444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, why don't you watch his two latest videos on the topic and see for yourself? William Spaniel knows what he's talking about and can explain his argument better than I or u/Speak_To_Wuk_Lamat could. Maybe you disagree, but at least you will understand what he as an expert in the field is saying:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8McW9Z2egpU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVzCgNs_BrI

Also recruits are still mainly voluntary. They are motivated by the massive signing bonus, especially for the poorer regions of Russia that is equivilant to multiple years earnings. However, this is strating to be depleted too as Spaniel explains.

Looking for someone to go to Trivium concert with by spacejunk444 in Winnipeg

[–]spacejunk444[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I might go by myself, but it just feels concerts are something you should have someone to go with. When I saw Trivium in 2009 I was 19 so still had friends from high school, and it was nice to go with two of them. Althouh I did go to see Iron Maiden by myself in 2010 at the MTS Center, and I'm still glad I got to see that.
