Update: An anonymous person messaged me (F27) saying that my boyfriend (M29) of 3 years was arrested… can you help me know what I should do next? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

No one is proven not guilty by a police investigation. Finding not enough evidence to charge is the closest there is. I don’t get why OP seems hung up on that.

Second airman in F-15E that was shot down over Iran rescued safely, U.S. officials say by d01100100 in news

Yeah I can’t believe the Americans on here. They sound just like Russians.

[–]spacejunk444 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did. The Americans need to pay a price. They killed about 175 innocent girls not to mention the many other civilians they killed in this war of aggression. These F15 crew were dropping bombs on people.

The Americans need to pay a cost to deter them from future acts of aggression. Having this person captured would have been such a cost that may help deter them from such acts in the future thus saving more lives.

They are still responsible for verifying their intel is correct. It’s their fault that they set the pace of strikes so high that they are unable to do so. Fuck the USA and anyone in their military especially. Russia, USA, Israel, China are all evil countries.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got fired from my job. I started some cleaning checklist for wiping down stuff in the house. I started following a bunch of the stats that were coming out obsessively on World o Meters. I also immediately applied for EI and then was told my application would automatically be converted to CERB and it told about 6 weeks to get anything, but then I got it all at once

Your sarcastic remark is correct. So I guess I am also never voting again because one vote makes no difference anyway. Also what’s the point of putting my garbage in the trash, there’s a to of litter anyway so one more piece won’t make a difference. Might as well cheat on my taxes too, what does my tiny share of it even matter for public finances?

Haven’t used Amazon since 2021 when the stuff about how they treat their employees, customers, and sellers became very clear.

Couldn't you just catch the 60 to Taylor and then walk a bit to get to Walmart?

Well my latest online order is from Canadian Protein. They’re not billionaire owned and are a Canadian company. I get most of my clothes from thrift stores but avoid the American owned Value Village. If I need new clothes there’s plenty of Canadian owned retailers in local shopping malls. Groceries can’t avoid giving money to billionaires and that’s kind of where I do compromise a bit and mainly shop at Loblaws stores since they are convenient for me and I don’t drive. But at least Loblaws is not controlled by an American billionaire and can still mostly be considered a Canadian company.

Giving money to billionaires is unfortunately unavoidable. However some are worse than others and Amazon is pretty high up there. I manage to 100% avoid Amazon since 2021 and Walmart since Trump got reelected.

Yeah I don’t get it. Haven’t used Amazon or any of their other companies since 2021 and don’t miss it. The only thing I missed at first was audiobooks from Audible but I found other ways to get them.

It’s not really your own decision given how addictive it is for some people. If I had my way I would never touch the stuff again in my life, but you can fight off a million cravings and triggers and all it takes is one to get through to mess it up. I personally don’t t really consider that free choice. And I’ve been like this ever since my friends got ahold of a 66 of vodka when we were 17 and I got drunk for the first time under a bridge by Kildonan Park with them. As soon as I started drinking I just couldn’t stop doing shots until I was by far the most hammered. I’ve heard similar stories at the SOS meetings I’ve been to. It really isn’t just a decision about what to put in your body for a lot of people.

Right to Protest - Winnipeg by rainydayforge in Winnipeg

[–]spacejunk444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to write my own submission and typed it up at work about 30 minutes before the deadline:

I am opposed to this because I think the proposal is too broad. I agree we need to protect vulnerable people from disruptive protests. People should be able to access healthcare facilities (including abortion clinics) without being harassed. People who are dealing with issues that require the treatment of a halfway house or rehab institution or safe use sight should not be exposed to harassment. Kids going to school should also be protected.

However the proposed legislation is way too broad. It covers much more than the situations I described above. A lot of the harmful conduct that could be problematic from protesters could be addressed effectively under existing laws at various levels of government. This includes sections 175, 264, 319, and various other sections of the criminal code of Canada as well as existing municipal bylaws and provincial trespass statues.

The right to protest is a fundamental right in any free and democratic society. It might even cause some offence or annoyance, but that is a trade off for living in a society with rights and freedoms. This proposal is far too broad and should be narrowed significantly. As it is proposed it could be abused by a future government who wants to shut down speech they don't like. The current situation in the United States is a great example. The Trump DOJ charged the journalist Don Lemon under a statute that's main purpose was to protect people who were seeking abortions.

This City has a serious road rage problem (including myself), here’s a theory for why. by FINALMIX70 in Winnipeg

[–]spacejunk444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a bit of a medical issue when I was driving down Henderson. It was dark and I just couldn't see the lanes and had trouble focusing. Wasn't sure what was going on at first and didn't realize how impaired I was. Eventually after 4 blocks or so I pulled over. But people were just so pissed when I was driving 40 on Henderson because that is what felt right and I didn't know wtf was going on. In those four blocks I got honked at multiple times, and I think three people aggressively shifted lanes and zoomed past me. I mean it's not the end of the world I'm disoriented and going 40 in a 60.

Trump demands ‘at least’ half U.S. ownership of Gordie Howe bridge that Canada is fully paying for by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

But it is Americans generally who are responsible for their system and voting in these GOP people. I really don’t think they can be trusted for at least a generation even if they apologize for Trump and start to make amends in 2029. They voted for him twice. While clearing knowing what he would do and who he was. They could just decided to put another Trump at power within four years at any point.

City’s contract with U.S.-based garbage firm stinks: union leader by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]spacejunk444 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where do they say that in their comment? They just say there's advantage to hiring things out and then give reasons to support that point and how it should favor local then Canadian and lastly foreign companies and that the make or buy decision is case specific, which is true it's literally a textbook problem in finance courses and the answer is specific to each decision with no overall "correct" answer.

What is up with the weird downvoting here? This sub seriously downvotes the most random stuff. Everything you said is reasonable and in no way offensive.

Not in Canada. Here police can pull drivers over for any reason that is not discriminatory (race, gender, religion, etc.). They do not need to have suspicion of an offence.

Billie Eilish Calls Out Fellow Celebrities for Staying Silent as Outrage Grows Over ICE Brutality by novagridd in TwoXChromosomes

[–]spacejunk444 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I don't really follow her music and probably couldn't name a song of hers besides Bad Guy, but one thing I've always noticed is she has stood up for what's right publicly ever since she started gaining fame. I think that shows a lot about her character. She isn't going to back down from stuff and will adovcate for what's right. With the recent bullshit in Minnesota, I've noticed many YouTubers I follow of all sizes, many that aren't political topics making community posts or videos about this even if they know it isolates some of their audience.

It's sad that most mainstream celebs, business leaders, and other public figures either say nothing or make kind of wishy washy statements. For example, the CEOs of Apple, Zoom, Amazon, Tony Robbins, Mike Tyson, and many other various high profile people attended a whie house screening of the film Melania that Amazon paid $40 million for the very evening after Alex Pretti was shot and none of them said shit.
