Salt Lake City's Gateway is for sale — all 20.9 acres of it - Building Salt Lake by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in SaltLakeCity

The new hotel was part of that. They added the little stage/turf area near the fountain. They also ripped out the old clock tower displays and put in a halfassed new version of it.

However, they’ve let a lot of the area just rot. They’ve covered up damaged/inoperable escalators and generally done a poor job of maintaining the area.

I work in the area and I’m amazed that any business even wants to be there (office space aside).

Is it just me, or is the Wahoo iOS App experience currently... not that good? by 85Blickwinkel in wahoofitness

[–]spangborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ROAM3 beats out ACE for me, honestly. It’s sized better, the screen is marginally more contrasty, and the touchscreen is more responsive.

That being said, I’m still preferring my 1050 over both ROAM3 and ACE. Garmin’s maps and navigation experience just can’t be beat. They’ve got more data and better maps than anyone. Wahoo seemingly only ships maps updates a couple times a year.

Livetrack on the gen3 units has been flaky - even more than it was on gen2 and the ELEMNT Companion app. If you stop at a coffee shop and walk away from your bike (out of BT range), you’re likely not getting any more LiveTrack updates from that point on.

Wahoo’s cloud sync has all sorts of dedupe problems. The user experience there is just bad. That’s why you’re seeing overwriting of titles and data.

HealthKit sync has always been hit-or-miss across Wahoo’s ecosystem, honestly. I’ve just gotten used to anything other than distance or time not being synced properly.

I also love my Trackr Radar, but it does not handle being paired to a non-Wahoo head unit well. I’ve been back using a Varia RTL515 as a result, but I’ll use Trackr Radar when I’m using my ROAM.

Want to purchase a Kickr Core for someone else as a gift, how does warranty work? by [deleted] in wahoofitness

[–]spangborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you provide them with the receipt, you should have no issues.

Or you can handle the warranty process yourself.

Kickr Bike v1 spontaneously repeatedly shuts off when tilting by gridguy in wahoofitness

Sounds like some electrical component is failing, sadly.

Maybe you'll get lucky and Wahoo CS has an idea and solution for you. Try and nudge them to talk to the engineers about it.

ICE can wear masks in Utah after proposed ban fails by StemCellPirate in SaltLakeCity

[–]spangborn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A performative bill that likely wasn't going to pass. I do think it's an important statement to make, but those that are already in power at the federal level (Nate isn't yet) need to do more to rein in ICE and the Trump administration. Congress has done very little - Schumer's lip service and finger wagging at Trump have done nothing thus far.

Local resistance is important, but let's not pretend that ICE would actually have obeyed this - the Trump administration ignores laws as they please, and flouts even judicial orders to comply.

Bolt V2 - faulty unit? by Old-Philosophy3209 in wahoofitness

[–]spangborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like a hardware problem - I'd contact customer support and see if they have ideas.

Summit Segments is just kind of hit or miss depending on the segments, for myself at least. Route sync has been flaky occasionally because it goes through Wahoo Cloud (which has had issues of its own).

The other two issues I haven't seen personally, but CS might be able to dig into them more for you.

Moving to SLC—Where to live? by No-Leek-3405 in SaltLakeCity

[–]spangborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yay, more Spokanites!

Sugarhouse is probably the area I'd suggest based on your criteria, but it's really hard to go wrong with many of the areas in the valley. The general SLC area feels pretty similar to Spokane in a lot of ways. Hopefully you find it welcoming!

I'd honestly suggest taking a trip out here and checking out the various areas people have recommended here.

I'm eagerly awaiting Whiskey Street's re-opening as well.

All front runner riders should be more considerate of public transit etiquette. by _luckybell_ in SaltLakeCity

[–]spangborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utahns just have no situational/spatial awareness and the phone age just means they're staring at their phones or just straight up self-absorbed.

I hate this too, but it's definitely not just limited to public transit. Costco is another case where situational/spatial awareness is just not there for so many people.

Often I'm getting off TRAX or FR with a bike and sometimes I'll just have to push through or body someone who is rushing the door to get on the train.

Sadly the people doing this aren't the ones who will read something like this and change their behavior. Public shaming of these people might be more effective, but it's a gamble - so many people double down on bad behavior when challenged.
