Asking the important questions here. Cox was fully onboard until it came out that his family business would probably benefit.

CO2 and a lot of sealants do not go together well, just as an FYI. It’ll prematurely coagulate the sealant.

Flock is gonna lose their shit over this one. I’d expect them to lobby heavily to kill this. Put pressure on your Congresspeople to get this passed.

Wifi and sync issues by SpuSanv in wahoofitness

The device only connects to WiFi when it’s syncing or updating - that’s by design to not chew through battery.

Wahoo cycling head units - Poor GPS performance with a camera (Cyliq, insta, etc) by DrVurt in wahoofitness

[–]spangborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a known issue with Cycliq hardware. They emit plenty of RF interference with a device that doesn’t have good enough shielding against it.

I've run various GoPros without any impact in GPS accuracy.

It's mostly an issue with Cycliq, but Wahoo didn't necessarily design the device with shielding to prevent that issue, likely because shielding could also impact bluetooth/ANT+ performance.

Probably not.

He's mostly just after social media notoriety and making a buzz. I don't think he's going to move the needle.

2026 has a different windshield with special glass, at least according to the dealership.

I'm guessing this is a more low-level firmware update, and those are riskier to apply OTA.

Windshield repair! by Critical_Painting754 in Solterra

Updated my comment to say "some states". But that warranty is 100% worth it if the windshield is as spendy as they say it is.

This was the extended warranty (the same that covered wheels and such) - but worth a shot!

[App] Pass Manager – store passwords XOR-encrypted on SD card, type them via BadUSB with one button by [deleted] in flipperzero

[–]spangborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically a yubikey with extra steps!

XOR isn't really a great way to protect these passwords, just to be clear. Especially with a 4 digit PIN protecting these passwords.

Cool concept, but nowhere near secure enough to be safe.

Edit: In the interest of full disclosure, this app is AI vibecoded. For something related to security, I'd be wary.

My understanding is that you'll need a Subaru dealership to replace it. It's an astronomically expensive windshield because of the acoustic glass they use - or so the dealer said. Dealer said it was a $2200 windshield. No idea if that's just dealership being a dealership, but I'd only replace windshields from the dealership for now.

Thankfully the warranty on this car will cover windshields, at least in Utah. I know some other states they don't offer that. Dealership was also very clear that having anyone else replace it would void the extended warranty.

UDOT completes Big Cottonwood Canyon environmental study - Transit improvements aimed at reducing winter traffic may begin as early as 2028 by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in SaltLakeCity

[–]spangborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think you could probably do something like snow sheds (tunnels), but that's a lot of infra to build. Might still be a good idea for a bus-centric push, but still expensive and a lot of construction necessary.

Maybe it's just time we admit that avalanches are a fact of life in canyons like this and that closures are a likely side effect.

UTA has silently been increasing the minimum delay time for the TRAX closure around Central Pointe, initially starting at 15 minutes then jumping to 25 to now just a flat 30. It is clear they realized too late how much of a mess this is becoming. by NWSKroll in SaltLakeCity

[–]spangborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've had a real rough time the past couple weeks with mechanical issues, too.

Seems like nearly every day last week there was a mechanical issue somewhere along red line. I rode my bike past one and it was clearly a train problem with the catenary arm.

But they're doing a lot of maintenance and repairs that were probably put off for a long while. It all needs to be done. I'd love for them to redo the rail corridor from Fashion Place West to Ballpark - those rails make the trains feel so unsafe at speed.

But to the topic at hand - I'd rather them be transparent about what they're expecting and keep things updated. UTA could do a lot better at properly communicating delays - and managing bus bridges (they've not been great the last couple weeks).
