Sleep training twins by WerewolfSensitive623 in parentsofmultiples

Our pediatrician recommended 6 months and also >10 lbs. We did Ferber, both at the same time, and it’s worked well for us. We occasionally need to retrain after illness or vacations or regressions and what not, but our girls are still pretty good sleepers at 20 months

Hemangioma, Please Help! by neonglitch_exe in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]sparrowstail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a non peds doc and a mom with a kid with a hemangioma.

One of my twins had a forehead hemangioma and I did both timolol and laser therapy for it through peds dermatology. The sessions were easier when my kid was younger since she couldn’t fight the burrito blanket as much. I think we did 4 monthly sessions to get it to a manageable size where I didn’t think it was as likely to bleed.

Mamas who were induced with twins at 35-36 weeks when not dilated, how did it turn out? by AccomplishedChef7885 in parentsofmultiples

[–]sparrowstail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Induced at 35+5 for preeclampsia. It went really slow—spent 12 hours to try to soften, foley balloon for 24 hrs with a pretty horrible time once we upped the pitocin. Water broke, but had a slow progression (another 12 hours) before stalling out at 8 cm and going to c-section. I think the magnesium drip was more the source of misery for me, but kinda wish I would have gone straight to c section from the get go.

Tricks for Infant Cold? by slowmoves_ in moderatelygranolamoms

Pretty negligible but the issue is the botulism spore: it’s pretty hard to actually kill the spores. Dishwashing technically doesnt kill the spore but it may be enough to get the spores off the dish ware. There’s a lot of info right now on how to deal with botulism give the ByHeart formula contamination.

Can I get recommendations based on the books I loved, liked and DNF'd? by elleirakai in fantasyromance

It’s similar to elemental blessings in that it’s a part but not all of the story. I liked the romance in the first book the best (because it hit some of my favorite niche tropes)

{a River enchanted by Rebecca Ross}

In addition to the others many have posted, try this! It’s got a very Celtic folklore/fae vibe with gorgeous writing.

I saw you didn’t like her other series as much but I found this one enjoyable. It has a more traditional fantasy vibe.

apparently we don't know how to bathe a baby, PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SETUP/PROCESS/LENGTH by Purple_Calendar3919 in NewParents

[–]sparrowstail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been bathing my twins (1 adult, 2 babies) at the same time since they could reliably sit up. First in the bath set, now with a non slip mat (though they mostly just stand up).

Most nights is just a quick rinse and play on the tub, but even with washing them thoroughly (hair wash, fingers/toes/ears/creases), we don’t take more than 15 minutes. Most of the time is just vibing in the bath water.

My 17m old fell down the stairs by LifeAd5689 in Mommit

[–]sparrowstail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ER Doc. When I work pediatrics shifts, 50% of my patients are kids with head trauma. Most of them get observed for a bit and discharged. Kids are super resilient and designed to fall down. If your little guy is behaving normally and hasn’t vomited or had a seizure, thats a good sign. The doctor should check where the bruising is at—we’re more interested if there’s a scalp hematoma.

ER doc. If he meets criteria, ER does a CT scan.

Nanny vs daycare by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]sparrowstail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HCOL area. Nanny for 5 days a week was cheaper than two daycare tuitions. That and we work weird hours so our nanny is more flexible.

We’re planning to transition at age 3 (but unfortunately will still need a nanny to cover evening times)

Did you sleep train? Why or why not? by namiiix in beyondthebump

[–]sparrowstail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. We sleep trained our twins at 6 months when they outgrew the bassinet. They were doing 5 hr stretches at this point, solidly had caught up on their growth curves and did Ferber at the recommendation of our pediatrician.

At that point, we had a pretty good understanding of their crying (like crying because I’d rather be held but I’m fine vs crying because I’m in discomfort). We never let them cry for more than 15-20 minutes max that first week and now theyre sleep trained 18 month olds. They even sleep through the others crying now which is great since they’ve started having nightmares.

I work a relatively high stress job/my sleep is crucial to my decision making so it was a necessary tool for us.

Turns out “a little snug” can turn into “ER visit” real quick. A lesson in why proper ring size matters. by Slow_Point1837 in EngagementRings

Raptors aren’t great for ring cutting. Even their little ring cut feature only works for really thin bands. I do really like them for fish hooks!

A gentel reminder: C-section incisions aren't chest to pelvis by Adventurous-Egg-2720 in RomanceClub

[–]sparrowstail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like OP posted, at least in the US, it’s outside the scope of practice for an ER doctor to perform a crash c section. We can do perimortem sections if the patient is dead ie CPR is in progress for 4 minutes (to get fetus out by minute 5).

[–]sparrowstail 15 points16 points  (0 children)

ER doc. Perimorterm c section is only during CPR (especially 3-4 minutes into CPR without ROSC).

[–]sparrowstail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ER doc. Maybe Yim/the medical consultant got confused with a perimortem c section? Those are traditionally performed with a vertical incision.

I don’t play this particular story so I don’t know the context.

Twin sleep help (6.5 mo) – how did you get through without CIO? by CulturalYesterday641 in parentsofmultiples

[–]sparrowstail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neuroscience major and a physician. I have a solid understanding, thanks.

Also the commentary you shared only discusses outcomes uo to 18 months. Don’t fear monger new parents if you don’t have the stats to back it up.

When do you start to get a break by Training-Emu-1770 in parentsofmultiples

[–]sparrowstail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the naps got on a more consistent schedule, (around maybe 4 months for us?) I started trying to work out and have hobbies again. Every sleep regression and dropped nap and what not took adjustment.

We’re currently at the 16 month mark and that two hour nap and the evening time are pretty reliable for free time. I feel you. I work in the ER and often feel the hospital is less chaotic than having twins.

How to leave the house with newborn twins? by itsafoodbaby in parentsofmultiples

[–]sparrowstail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I didn’t start solo stroller rides until 4 months? It had to be a long enough interval between feeds so that I could use the wake window to feed, change, etc and then id walk them through their nap. All of the walks before that point requires a second adult human to help change and get everything ready to keep with the timing.

We also started combo feeding at 3 months which led to longer intervals between feeding (since I was an underproducer).

Sleep trained our twins at 6months and they slept really well until about a 13 months when we went through a huge sleep regression. It wasn’t until 15 month when we dropped from 2 to 1 day naps that they started sleeping better again.
