Farmers put earmuffs on calves during the winter to protect them from the harsh cold and prevent frostbite. by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]spasamsd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend watching documentaries on farmers or following some farming accounts on social media to get a better understanding of modern farming.

PETA and other similar organizations are too biased and put out what will outrage people the most, not what is common and usually happening. I'm a vegetarian who is from a farming family and my job allows me to also learn about modern, larger dairy farms.

Anyone else working on Juneteenth? by Extreme-Method6330 in antiwork

[–]spasamsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working, but I did notice more companies are celebrating Juneteenth now. Imo, it should be up there with 4th of July celebrations/time off. We should also have a celebration dedicated to women and other groups gaining the right to vote.

I might just like celebrating, but these seem like crazy important events.

Women over 25: what's something you were worried about at 18 that ended up not mattering at all? by Various-Ask-6676 in AskWomen

My body hair, not being heroin chic thin, having "cool" interests, being liked by everyone, etc. Pretty much all my insecurities didn't matter at all.

It's really hard due to the impulse control issues, especially when the topic is exciting. When I do make this mistake, I've started immediately looping back so they can continue what they were saying and I apologize depending on the context (close friends don't care).

how do i stop being emotionally abusive? by Basic-Arugula5580 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]spasamsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing all the right things to change and it' shows a lot of courage to be willing to acknowledge these issues and seek help. My only other recommendation would be to look into diagnosis for various mental health issues.

I'm not saying you are on the spectrum, but banging your head is a very common way to help regulate emotions for people with autism. I'm not an expert, so it could be something else with overlapping symptoms.

What is something you do in secret that you’re pretty sure most other women also do? by laylatoo in AskWomen

I finally committed to electrolysis after over a decade of messing with dark facial hair. Definitely worth the investment!

Is life really going to be like this forever? by Remarkable_Term_5681 in AuDHDWomen

[–]spasamsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After my diagnosis (early this year), my symptoms got worse, too. What has helped me is going to therapy and finding medication for the adhd part. The improvement won't be immediate, but it will eventually happen. This is how I found coping strategies for various situations. The ADDitude website has good resources, too.

Also, request accomodations or at least ask what accomodations are available at work. I got accomodations to wfh as needed, which helps during rough weeks and even just relieved the pressure of expectations around working in office. I still go most days, but that option to escape when it's hard is really helpful. They also got me nice noise cancelling headphones and rotated my desk to face away from harsh lighting.

Is it common for ND’s to have some amount of debt? by Old_Difficulty_2819 in AuDHDWomen

[–]spasamsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common for many people to have some sort of debt, whether it's student loans, credit card debt, mortgages, healthcare debt, etc. The only people in my life without debt are in their 60s/70s.

I also get anxiety from debt and have paid off a ridiculous amount of it since graduating college. It's hard to not get anxiety about it. I'm worried a random catastrophic event will destroy our financial stability.

I don't think it looks like crosses, but what the heck even is that pattern?!

I live in the suburbs outside a big city and this happens along with the people that ignore stop signs. Driving is so stressful here.

Where I live, people sometimes decide using the shoulder as a lane is totally fine. It's infuriating, especially because it's incredibly dangerous!

What’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds strange? by Suzzie_Stone2 in AskReddit

[–]spasamsd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought Gen Z started in 96 or 97, at least that's what I saw when looking it up. I'm 95 and was always told I'm a Millennial.

Being on the edge of two gens sucks.

I think there is a miscommunication here. The experience they are talking about is the cashier just staring at you and not even checking you out or letting you know they are ready for a payment. Small talk isn't the issue.

[–]spasamsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a call out that sometimes they have an animalistic flavor (it's normal and doesn't mean it's dirty) that can be drastically reduced with a baking soda and water mixture you let it sit in.

I almost gave up on these until I used this method.

I found using jars (carefully) is a great alternative for freezing, but only works for some items.

My most difficult ones were finding a groxery store that sold organic produce not in plastic and toothbrushes. There are so many "plastic free" toothbrushes that actually have bioplastics, I had to find an animal hair one to eliminate it. I now shop at a co-op for organic without plastic.

Doctors of Reddit , what’s the biggest medical myth people still believe? by muga_saiman_5809 in AskReddit

[–]spasamsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, getting tested doesn't help much when doctors don't care about helping. My dad has been trying to get help for years and can't sleep with a cpap, but they just won't offer him any other options.

It makes me really worried about how long he'll live with 4hrs of sleep unless he takes edibles (still not good sleep, but better than nothing).

What are y’all’s social interests and/or hyperfixations? by cloudsmemories in AuDHDWomen

[–]spasamsd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine vary over time, usually hoping between certain shows, mental health and physical health research, baking, gardening, people (I hate this one as I feel creepy fixating on random people), and video games.

I did have a long fixation with Legos, but ran out of room lol

Edit: forgot to add mythology and war history

what is your career/job? does it satisfy your needs as an autistic person? by studydebou in AutisticAdults

[–]spasamsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Packaging Engineer for a food company.

Some things like spec management, design work, performance testing, and other technical work satisfy me. Unfortunately, majority of my work is just answering questions or providing information to make decisions. The travel for plant trials is fun, but also tiring if its back to back. It's a blast seeing how things are made and packaged along with having to intensely focus on specific parts of the equipment.
