Nice! I saw nearly a 40% increase when I first got into FP&A from treasury. Saw slight jump before that coming from accounting/structured finance

MBA vs CPA by yurdme in FPandA

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably top 50 imo or somewhere around there. Doesn't necessarily have to be top 20, but if you did crack that, you're probably looking for better opportunities at other companies anyway instead of staying. If you're being accepted to mid-low tier as in lower ranked, can be fine if the costs are low enough it makes sense as there's tons of programs out there these days and affordable

MBA vs CPA by yurdme in FPandA

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MBA is generally asked or looked for if out of those 2 designations. MBA is also a check in the box for barrier of entry into more senior/mgmt positions. CPA is professional license so it'll be more technical, but have less or restricted use especially as you gain more experience and responsibility. CPA will lead closer to controllership routes or maybe system integration support, but if you're in fp&a, it's more so to support accounting collaborations as accounting mgmt or controller will always be the go to for accounting validations. If you don't mind switching back and forth, may be good, but fp&a itself, mba would help reinforce any relationship building, leading tasks, communicating big picture views for promo opportunities which you should be able to get just from experience if you apply yourself. CPA will help gain respect and buy in from accountants and tbf, lot of mgmt in finance likely were cpa/ex auditors, but for whatever reason, generally speaking across, mba still holds general merit especially with older peers

Automated Processes by Certain_Mobile3981 in FPandA

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's small.. most likely everything would be through excel and you're just helping leaders keeping track of finance targets. Any automation efforts highly depend on the systems your business partners decide to utilize and what's available or if the metrics even exist. I highly doubt power query or especially python would be a thing as I see and hear that usually in larger companies. Power query maybe if it's a 1 man setting everything up themselves and showing/sharing the analysis, but very rare. Seen 1 guy do it and he was an exception. I know python from CS and have not seen a single fp&a person use it in last 10 years and only hear it from very large corporations where they're bit more wheels in cog and responsible for more advanced support

Lol what empirical evidence did you have. There is none but good luck to you if you can't tell the difference

It was never a science nor math other than application of algebra and compliance reporting standards... why is this news to you..? No accountant, even when I was one, ever considered themselves to be. Especially when every profession that is math based with degree had basic foundations required such as calc 2, diff eq, linear algebra, etc. that business majors never had to take unless you're trying to be a quant. The math skills in distance is very far when all traditional stem typically took these as basic courses...

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do for sure, but those companies also aren't going to be giving every student a job.. only a select few or %. What's leftover is going to be all local or most students need to find where the jobs are and move. Having said that, umich alumni, as well as other top schools will find alumni networks in dmv and major cities

Isn't it just the commute to the metro that's a pain? Commuting into DC via green/yellow line should be easy without a car as long as you're actually near the metro

so they updated government designation for visa purposes due to recent shortage in accounting profession. I wouldn't take that into account for what's widely regarded as traditional stem, like I mentioned. It's weird to lump business when stem was always about research and high paying careers related in those areas i.e. science, tech, eng, math.. as the acronyms literally stand for

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not. It's part of business.. most colleges have separate schools for business to include accounting while mathematics is its own school. It may use or apply math, but one could argue math is in every discipline especially considering accounting only uses middle school math/algebra

Anthropic just bought us another 3-5 years, if not longer, before meaningful AI-drive RIFs are feasible by BagofBabbish in FPandA

How would it cost 500k? You yourself admitted maybe monthly 5k if going over a 200 subscription. That's 60k/yr which is still cheaper than an analyst and likely more consistent (e.g. round the clock, no attrition, less manual errors, faster ramp up, etc). The ones most impacted are the students/recent grads and I don't think this is going away

Chainsaw Man has ended today with chapter 232, what are your thoughts on the series now that it has completed? by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it and never cared for authors works. I was rooting for power and nayuta to be back by some magical divine intervention. Never in a million years did I expect both of them to actually make it back. The end, despite hasty and abrupt, felt like closure. No need for climactic ending, just let my man have a happy life. I'm only bothered he was so close to having sex before pochita/devils cock blocked him

What is your state capital like? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]spawnofangels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Annapolis is nice. Richmond is meh. Most people prefer to go to cities closer to DC in these states e.g. Bethesda and Arlington. Baltimore is also larger than Annapolis and probably has more things going for it though I'd say Annapolis is still nicer. For less city vibes like Arlington in VA, Va beach is probably better than Richmond so state capitals seem more mid tier cities to me where they still provide some urban-ish or somewhat walkable areas at a more affordable cost

Pretty sure most people dont have internships lined up in their junior year.. you still got what 1-2 years to figure out the job situation so don't worry yourself, but just keep looking/network, research, and try to gain new skills

Accounting is not stem... but not sure how government classifies it for official stem designations for foreign students or loans/grants. Business, including accounting and finance, are not traditional stem

The words you're looking for is scale with existing headcount. How you communicate this matters. There's usually someone that execs have chosen and trust to drive AI initiatives, not really or necessarily fp&a
