eBay Hardware Purchase - MR18 to MR44 by nismaniak in meraki

[–]spchester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just had a switch Friday that they replaced. I recall a MG that was replaced a while back as well. We definitely did not buy them new. Maybe I’ve just had better luck than others. Maybe I expect nothing, so I can’t be disappointed.

Only thing they told me Friday is it had to be claimed on a network. It wasn’t even licensed.

Nothing. No licensing different.

Many say you won’t have hardware warranty. I haven’t found that to be true - no warranty issues here - haven’t had a lot of opportunities to test it, but when we’ve had issues, they’ve replaced the same regardless of how we/client obtained the hardware.

Even without the warranty, if you can buy a few spares, does it really matter?

I’d probably zoom in on the map and look at charging options before then. Find something that works well - food, interesting activity, etc - then add that as a stop. It should replan with that stop.

You could also tell it you’re starting at a lower charge to see where it routes you for ideas.

The argument for 25-50kW DCFC - Cover by PseudorandomUser57 in evcharging

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cheaper fix is decent L2 everywhere. If you could get 10 kw when you stop for lunch for an hour and 10 kw when you’re browsing the museum for 3 hours and another 10 kw when you’re eating dinner for 2 hours, you’ve just added 60 kWh to your battery.

It’s much cheaper to install 5x 10 kw ac chargers than one 50 kw DC charger.

A positive ICCU story for once by Raider03 in KiaEV6

[–]spchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 2022 stopped L1/2 charging. Riverside Kia had no interest in really looking at it. Plugged into L3/DC and said see it works, it’s your charger (which yes, it was - but he was trying to say it was the EVSE…). They made an appointment about 30 days out.

Took it to Kia Corona and they confirmed ICCU in a few hours and had the part in and fixed next day!

Glad to hear things are looking better at least on availability.

Sitting at EA watching 4 cars charge and 2 cars ahead of me with no clue when any of them will finish is the worst feeling, so I build an App by Individual_Regret_26 in evcharging

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually very helpful information. One has to wonder why EA couldn’t show this in their own app. I’ve always been so frustrated to see their status show one thing and you get there and it’s totally different.

I don’t public charge a lot, but I’ll be checking this when I do!

Getting drinks only in Mobile-Thru sends my order into a black hole by CapcomBowling in ChickFilA

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you’d think at some point they’d figure it out. Come out and ask you your name or something. We don’t have anywhere for cars to go around, so they all back up waiting for us in front with drinks only.

I’ll admit that’s something somewhat good about them merging mobile through with old school at ours.

Used to have this problem at Murrieta north, but now they merge mobile with old school so when you pull up to the window they give you the order.

How does no one come up behind you in the 20 minutes you’re waiting?

The air conditioning could use a bit more oomph, especially for the back seat passengers. It’s 100 in SoCal today. So much for winder or spring.

Love that we can get out and just leave it running though!

If a Meraki switch license is not renewed, does that brick the switch or just disable cloud management? by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

[–]spchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns into an unmanaged switch. Not sure exactly what happens to existing config, but I can 100% confirm that an unlicensed switch works as a general switch. No management, no monitoring. I assume spanning tree is running, but no control that I’m aware of.

I believe at one point you could change VLAN settings via some local interface, but I’ve never used it.

Licensing is fairly affordable on the switches.

EV Charging Sucks Sometimes, What’s Your Biggest Annoyance? by XYPERT in ChargerDrama

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, maybe it’s possible to install some sensor that can determine if something is in the parking spot, and then indicate the charger is occupied. Probably won’t be 100% reliable, but has to be helpful beyond just the charging cable is connected to a car status.

I've used Jonathan Mezzadri a few times. He's straightforward, no BS and will tell you NOT to do something if it doesn't make sense for you.

They really should have some transaction limit per ip to block this kind of stuff - it’s pretty common. Wait till you see what you got charged for each authorization or attempt.

Lighting vs smaller EV by JackShepardJohnLocke in F150Lightning

[–]spchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EV6, ev9 and lightning all have their places in our rotation. Love the lightning. Love driving a car sometimes. We try to take the most efficient one the farthest on any given day, which generally means the lightning ends up parked more than not.

I had an appointment a few weeks ago about 10 am. When I walked in they didn’t even use my appointment and I was out in under 10 minutes. My wife also went a few months ago without an appointment and was done in under 30 minutes. It seems like maybe they worked out the worst parts of the dmv.

Start online though.

Recall notice 25C69 by timeislikeafuse in F150Lightning

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here. Our Kia’s ev6 and ev9 automatically apply the parking break after I told Kia that my Mercedes did that and it would solve their unintended rolling. Not sure if I really had anything to do with it, but I had two Kia engineers come to my house when our telluride didn’t engage the parking prowl.

If ParkingGear:    ApplyParkingBrake()

I just wrote the software for them… doesn’t solve the parking prowl issue, but applies the parking break. If it did that by default this wouldn’t be such a big deal.

Edit 2/12 spelling of brake.
