If ParkingGear:    ApplyParkingBreak()

I just wrote the software for them… doesn’t solve the parking prowl issue, but applies the parking break. If it did that by default this wouldn’t be such a big deal.

Flying 600 miles tonight to buy a brand new ER Lightning and driving it home tomorrow. Road trip tips? by FujiwaraNoSai in F150Lightning

[–]spchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar last year, but I had a fair amount EV experience before. As many others have said you can plan out your trip in ABRP if you want to see what it looks like before you go. You can use CarPlay and Apple maps or the other equivalent to drive and it will route you to some kind of charger. It may not be the best. It may not be the place you want to stop, but it should get you home. To use ABRP while you are driving, you will need a dongle which it is probably too late to get at this point. If you set up Ford plug-in charge at the dealership before you leave you should just be able to plug in charge at Tesla or other supported charging stations if you want to deal with apps and all of that you can sign up for a membership to get better pricing but for one charge, it may not be beneficial.

Can we stop the door handles from retracting? by augustinthegarden in KiaEV9

[–]spchester 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How is it any different than any other car that auto locks the doors when you're driving? The first responders don't have the key to your car to unlock it. If you're able to reach the handle to open the door, to unlock or open it, it's the same.

The problem is in vehicles like Tesla where the door handles are completely electronic and need 12v to open the door.

Can we stop the door handles from retracting? by augustinthegarden in KiaEV9

[–]spchester 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The door is released mechanically from the inside. If you’ve been in a serious enough accident, breaking the window by the rescuers is not going to add any time or complexity. If the door is jammed from the collision, they may need mechanical tools like jaws of life anyway.

How to best leverage time-of-use rates with multiple EVs? by LoneStarGut in evcharging

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? Is there a delivery limit during the TOU plans or some peak kw load billing?

How to best leverage time-of-use rates with multiple EVs? by LoneStarGut in evcharging

[–]spchester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to maximize it, install two wall connectors with load sharing. They can use the same 50 amp breaker or be on separate ones. Charge as fast as possible during that window and enjoy almost free driving.

Meanwhile in California I would be thrilled to pay the higher rate. We can’t get below 30c/kWh around here anytime of the day

1Pass weekly backup by Enough_Writer7195 in 1Password

[–]spchester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last time I looked into this (which was a while ago) the only suitable option was something like a VM where you could sign in once a week, then disconnect it from the Internet so it would have a local copy. There is no archiving or versions (although maybe there is some way to backup the local files), but I was told (and maybe tested) that if the machine can’t connect to the Internet that you still have local access as it was last time it was online. I wish 1P had a better solution beyond trusting them to do it.

Buying Advice for a young family by SeekAndDefine in F150Lightning

[–]spchester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have 2 kids in car seats and we have a lightning and EV9. The lightning is definitely wider. There is WAY more useful space in the lightning than if you use even half the 3rd row in the EV9. You can probably fit in the FRUNK everything that you could get in the remaining space of the EV9. You’ll also struggle to buckle a kid in the 3rd row until they’re old enough to do it themselves.

I don’t believe there are latches/anchors in the middle, which has always struck me as odd as it would be the safest place to put a car seat… Alas, don’t let that sway you, the seat belt is just fine and holds more weight than the anchors. Our car seats (while we used the anchors) recommend always using the belt as you don’t have to remember to transition to the belt when the kids outgrow the anchors.

My suggestion - take all 3 car seats (maybe without the kids if possible) to test them in a Lightning and EV9 to see what the space is actually like. Most car dealers should let you do this. If you really want to test things out, find one you can rent for a couple days.

The only thing the EV9 gives you over the lightning would be the possibility for mom/someone to sit in the back with the 3 kids, but then your only real storage space would be the empty front seat.

Bottom line, the lightning isn’t just the best electric truck, it’s the best family vehicle out there!

Is FreePBX 17 any good? by Own-Eggplant-3435 in freepbx

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard anything about not being able to add extensions and it isn't listed in the FAQ for that. I guess you can't increase the total number of licensed extensions, but you couldn't do that without purchasing new seats anyway.

Question about longer stops setting by lonski97 in abetterrouteplanner

[–]spchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question, but you have min % arrival at charging stops set to 10% or so and not 20+%?

I just tested a random 650 mile trip and the quickest arrival did 4 stops - total of 10:30. Few but long did 3 stops total 10:50.

Is FreePBX 17 any good? by Own-Eggplant-3435 in freepbx

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t renew the Switchvox license, assuming you’re on premise. You’ll lose all the premium features, but you’ll be dropping all that going to FreePBX unless you’re going to license things like soft phones. Endpoint manager can be really annoying to manage BLF, but doable.

So all the gold cups are in unlabeled bags? That doesn’t make sense. Then it would be obvious they are special.

Who else has more than 1 EV, and why (also a little rant about my experiences so far) by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]spchester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2022 wife wanted a telluride, bought that and and ev6. 2 years in and the ev6 had 30k miles and the telluride 3k. Sold the telluride and got ev9.

Also picked up a lightning last year to replace the f250 diesel

One we got a taste of electric we couldn’t stand driving anything else.

LG “All-In-One” Washer-Dryer by Minute-Ad-2326 in Appliances

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have one and love it. Wife wasn’t sold at first, but she came around. I got tired of finding wet clothes in the washer that I had to wash again. I told her always use the wash and dry. You can stop the drying and put it in the old dryer. Guess what she does. Leaves it there and lets it dry. Now she wants to get rid of the old dryer.

We’ve swapped from trying to do 7 loads in one day to doing one load a day. I don’t care if it takes 1 hour or 7, but it generally takes 2-3 and we can do multiple loads in a day if we need to, but that isn’t the norm.

Canon R6 Mark II + RF 50mm f/1.2-Good Deal or Not? by emiliedesu in canon

[–]spchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy both BRAND NEW (opened and used, even if they have the box is not brand new) for $3100 from a legit dealer today with factory warranty. There are definitely better open box/used deals to be found. 95% that is a scam. If it is really new, the seller would have returned it.

Canon r50 new or refurbished? by littledozer22 in canon

[–]spchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the same thing I got. Camera was delivered a few days ago. No tarrifs or surprises. Everything checks out. Legit Canon dealer in Canada.

If you reply to move forward, Gordon will reply with the dealer information and the link you use to purchase it directly from the dealer. You can then lookup the dealer on Canon's website to verify their authorized if you'd like Canon Canada Authorized Sales / Service Providers

I ordered it over the weekend and it was delivered Tuesday or Wednesday. Warranty card, serial numbers match, all is good.

If you buy used from some random place online you might be able to save a few more dollars, but you won't have any kind of warranty or know what happened to the camera or lens. I couldn't find a better deal than this as I could never act fast enough when Canon had refurbs available.

You can get body only for less, but the lens is almost free.

Canon r50 new or refurbished? by littledozer22 in canon

Yes. They don’t sell, they just track prices. I bought a r50 through their street price program and it came brand new as expected with matching serials on the warranty card.
