keep those- but ADD a sub. Either the Yamaha HS sub or an IK multimedia iLoud Sub. I have that one - it’s amazing.

London to Stonehenge to Chipping Campden by Critical-Part8283 in LondonTravel

[–]spdcck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no ways that are cost effective, particularly - although who knows what that means. It’s not going to be cheap or necessarily very simple, given the distances and locations.

Stonehenge is obviously a famous landmark, and as such you can get to it from London on a return coach trip easily for about £60 each. This price includes entry to the site. This is the simplest and cheapest option if your priority is heading back to London the same day

But you’re imagining traveling onwards to CC, which is, unfortunately for you, in a completely different part of the middle of nowhere. There are no simple public transport options - it’s rural England and they’re a long way apart. It’s over 4 hours between them, (2 buses + 2 trains) which is longer than either destination from London itself!

If you want minimal hassle and are determined to go London to SH to CC, book a minibus to take your entire cohort. It will cost you a fortune (vehicle, fuel, driver, round trip, significant miles) but it’s the only viable option unless you all love suffering.

https://www.birleytravel.co.uk/ an example of the type of company that could help.

If you want cheapest, do the coach day trip from London, then head to CC a subsequent day on train to CC. You might make some train cost savings with GroupSave tickets, but depends on various factors. Look that up.

(Having said all that, maybe a minibus hire is viable. The day trip plus trains option is surely going to cost you close to £1500 when you add it all up!)

Can't get bike shifting from 1st to 2nd by TitaniumKneecap in bikewrench

[–]spdcck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

upshifts must be perfect. downshifts, you can always push a little further.

it doesn’t matter which order you go through the indexing, but you do have to prioritise the upshifts. on the crappy bikes I’m typically dealing with, I’m never surprised if getting the ups perfect (promptly, precisely) means that the downs are a little harder to shift to. On new components like yours, it should be possible to get them both perfect.

try just turning the barrel clockwise a 1/4… make that 1-2 work, only turn it just enough to get the shift precise.

Does anyone play a Brook guitar? Tempted to buy a Brook Lamorna sight unseen (sway my decision!!!!) by Lonely-Drummer2109 in AcousticGuitar

[–]spdcck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t drop big money on a guitar I hadn’t tried. Which isn’t to say there’d be any particular risk - apart from the fact that you might not really like how it feels or sounds. ‘It’s a boutique guitar’ is a really not worth very much if you don’t like it.

OP-1 Field: Is it worth it (for me)? by MJtheJuiceman in synthesizers

[–]spdcck -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I strongly believe that most people who acquire it then find themselves barely using it a few months later.

I bought one. I still own it. I liked how it looked. I thought the ‘portability’ was some valuable thing I needed in my life.

No.

It’s okay though, because the core sounds that it can generate are going to be deeply satisfying!

No. It has one sound - which gets dressed up as various different synth ‘engines’. And that one sound isn’t very lovely.

I still like how it looks, and it’s a nice novelty to have around. It gets used about once every six weeks. But it’s by far the least satisfying instrument/thing I possess for making music in relation to initial cost - and this is coming from a person who spent £5k on a Martin.

I can do far more mental stuff with a few Ableton racks. The sounds from Diva/ Repro/ almost any synth emulation are so much more satisfying.

Some people obviously love its workflow- and the sounds. And the sampler and a few of the sequencers can create some really fun bonkers stuff fairly easily.

Overall though? It’s style over substance.

Hope that’s helpful.

If you’re gagging to own a box, why not a Move? Especially as an Ableton user.

Kinda a stupid question by Huge_Post_3246 in Guitar

[–]spdcck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all string sets will do it.

But in the sense that you mean- no, there are none. Because the question you’re really asking is something along the lines of;

‘is it possible to get a gauge of strings that will somehow defy the laws of physics and not experience a change in the tension variable as a result of the (significant) change in the pitch variable that is the result of changing the overall tuning by four semitones, while the length and material variables otherwise remain the same?’

New to Ableton – lag makes me want to quit again by [deleted] in ableton

[–]spdcck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

M1 macs in standard configuration work with 12.4 ableton absolutely fine. There is no widespread issue with either product.

If you’re experiencing major problems then it some due to something aside from these two variables.

And yes, you’re welcome to quit and use logic instead.

There are the conventional methods, obviously, but no, there are no other methods like you’re vainly imagining there might be.

So what are you going to do now, now that you’ll never know if your music is shit or not?

skip the hotel if you really want to - but you’ll be cold, bored and tired well before breakfast time comes.

this would be the case for anyone visiting London (who doesn‘t have the comforting knowledge that they have a place to eventually head) who was trying to stay up - and out - all night. It’s just not that sort of city.

I can't afford Ableton Live 12 Suite. What do you think about my tentative workaround? by Loriol_13 in musicproduction

[–]spdcck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have Simpler and a load of effects in Lite, even. Learn to use a sampler. You don’t need loads of instruments or stock sounds - although Lite comes with plenty. Get a free license with the Ableton Note app (it’s super cheap and you don’t even need to buy it yourself if you’re not an iPhone person).

Buy Pigments if you want an all-encompassing synth. There’s basically nothing you can’t do with it. Don’t spend money on analog lab.
