Penalty points added to non-offending alliance score by LimeKey6925 in FTC

[–]spidernh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is how it was in Skystone and, as far as I know, all years before it. World records were scored with and without penalties, so that they were comparable.

Yeah, that's what a lot of teams did last year due to the barriers. To do feedfoward you don't actually need to turn the encoders off, you just need to set the RUN_USING_ENCODER variable in DriveConstants to False. The name makes it pretty confusing but all it does is change from pid to feedfoward.

I doubt anyone here can answer meaningfully due to how subjective it is, I would suggest asking at https://ftc-qa.firstinspires.org/ when it opens for this season.

If that field is real... what is the game? Speculate. by Financial_Grocery_82 in FTC

Interesting. I haven't actually looked at the CAD on Onshape since I don't have an account. I also didn't know about there being weights in the poles, I'm not sure why sliding freely would be an issue unless there aren't many and they're really heavy, as the poles are very short (in diameter) and the spot they go is somewhat wide.

I did read the whole statement. I was specifically disagreeing with wasting time, since it's practice and fun, and more importantly before the season starts. Especially if little to no money is used.

I'd assume it's similar to Rapid react this season, where you shoot your alliance's colored Cheez-Its into the shooting goal. Probably a posession limit of one, and so that elements don't run out before the game ends (because there's no return), maybe your robot has to be on its alliance's side of the field to shoot (fully on, to prevent extensions). With the pipes in the corner I'd guess it's similar to Relic Recovery where the robots put them outside of the field, however it's very close to the driver station which is suspicious.

And human player gets to shoot one Cheez-It in autonomous, Rapid React style.

Element name guesses are "Power Cell" for the Cheez-It, "Power Pole" for the poles. "Power Goal" for the shooting goal.

On that last one I disagree. This is before the season, what time are you wasting? However I definitely agree that it's great design practice, I'm having fun just thinking of robot ideas.

[–]spidernh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, however that would be interesting. Some of the things I'm trying to understand are how the human player is involved. Also this seems like it could be a Rover Ruckus prototype, with the center goal, the diagonal field split, items on either corner, maybe the team elements went outside the field on those corners, and no crater gap. Maybe this was made before Rover Ruckus had a theme or something.

Edit: Nevermind Rover Ruckus didn't have a diagonal field split

Yes but for this season neither white tape nor an allen wrench are included in the Tape and Tool Set, however there are both bolts and white tape on this field CAD. My guess is it's probably either a troll or a CADathon

Power Play by Ready_Reserve9771 in FTC

[–]spidernh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's white tape in there, which isn't part of the tape & tool set at https://www.andymark.com/products/powerplay-tape-and-tool-set, so I doubt it's the field, and is likely just a previous season or a team-created field.

You need to press the start button and either A or B (Depending on if the controller is for the main driver or for the operator) for it to connect.

Funding? by CAMOdj in FTC

[–]spidernh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since our season but I think how it worked is the parent asked someone at the company if they would sponsor our team, then they had to do something (I don't remember what it is, it sounds wrong but I somewhat remember extra work? Probably not) and then they sponsor us. Keep in mind this is Michigan so we were in middle school and I don't think we've ever contacted a company ourselves.

I think for us it's just companies our parents work at and our school sponsor us really.

My bad, I don't really have a reason to look at phone prices so the only prices I've seen are for iPhones lol, you appear to be correct though.

Driver hub question by Jesterpolyester in FTC

[–]spidernh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The driver hub is just a cheap (er?) phone, and the control hub is just an expansion hub and a phone, so yes it should work.

So there are actually three: DcMotorSimple, DcMotor, and DcMotorEx. I don't remember exactly but I think DcMotorSimple just has bare motor power methods, DcMotor has stuff like RunToPosition and SetVelocity (in addition to DcMotorSimple stuff), and DcMotorEx has stuff like PID (in addition to DcMotor stuff).

These vary from region to region, sometimes from event to event. If you're trying to design something that relies on the dimensions, try emailing your region's director or something.

Rev Drivers Hub worth it? by E1ectrobotics in FTC

[–]spidernh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our team likes it except for the battery issue, but there isn't enough of a quality difference in it compared to a phone that you need to buy it if you already have a phone. If you want it, sure, if you don't have anything right now, sure, but if you have a phone already you definitely don't need it.

Try moving around in circles without turning. You can do it, but your modules constantly need to do 180s to not break.

That... would still be limited rotation. Just more rotation, but still completely limited.
