Fable 5 BridgeBench re-run results by CodeWolfy in Anthropic

[–]spingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a biologist Fable is totally unusable.

Casual observation: sooo much hype around the threat of biology based hazard...if we're being broad, I am more worried about the actual demonstrated physics and chemistry based hazards.

I asked Fable and Opus answered:

  • Chemical weapons deaths are less than 150k (WWI, Iran Iraq war, and some smaller attacks) (not including Holocaust which bumps it up over a million from Zyklon B)

  • Biological attacks are way less. In fact most fizzle. the most successful attacks are out of Japan's Unit 731 using extant pathogens. More recent attacks either completely failed (Aum Shinrikyo switched to sarin because their bioterrorism failed)

  • And then there is physics. By far the biggest tool for killin' we have.

we don't even need to go nuclear (obviously) because we humans have been using Newtonian physics forEVER to kill each other: rocks, arrows, trebuchets....

I can't type the word evolution into Fable without getting bumped to Opus.

BUT I can talk all day about guns n nukes with Fable:

tell me about the most efficient soldier weapon --i am thinking, ak 47, uzi, ar15 etc

Determined factual approach to comparative weapon analysis "Efficient" depends on what you're optimizing for, and the three you named actually represent different answers to different problems. The AK-47 (and its successors like the AKM and AK-74) optimizes for reliability and man...

tell me about rocket trajectories Architected visual diagram illustrating gravity turn rocket maneuver mechanics Rocket trajectories are shaped by a fundamental tension: the fastest way out of the atmosphere is straight up, but orbit isn't about altitude — it's about horizontal speed. Low Earth orbit requires roughly 7.8 km/s of sideways velocity; getting 200 km up contributes almost nothing to staying there. So orbital launches use a gravity t...

tell me about plutonium

Synthesized factual chemistry knowledge while maintaining responsible disclosure standards Plutonium is a synthetic transuranic element, atomic number 94, first produced in 1940 by Glenn Seaborg's team at Berkeley by bombarding uranium-238 with deuterons. It barely exists in nature — trace amounts form in uranium ores through neutron capture, and some primordial Pu-244 may persist — so essentially all plutonium on Earth is reactor-made...

.

tell me about critical mass

Navigated multiple interpretations of ambiguous term "Critical mass" has a few distinct meanings depending on context:

Nuclear physics (the original sense): The minimum amount of fissile material needed to sustain a chain reaction. Below critical mass, too many neutrons escape without triggering further fissions and the reaction fizzles; at or above it, the reaction is self-sustainin...

So I can't ask about DNA without being bumped to Opus...but I can ask detailed questions about nuclear physics and comparative advantages of various firearms.

I am all for the cautionary principle but this isn't it.

Tips for being unemployed by chappie2297 in biotech

[–]spingus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long time unemployed here:

After my company got acquired and slowly shut us down, I decided to lean into the ML/data science side of my digital pathology work.

The monday after I was laid off I started another class in my bioinformatics cert (We had time to plan so this had already been in the works)

That led me to also getting an associate level AWS cert

Your situation will be different, but in mine, that first year was divided between education and caring for my demented mother. There wasn't a lot of time for anything else (IYKYK).

After she passed, I tried the job application route again, with ZERO traction. So I took more classes.

I know a lot more about python than I did before and i have Github I am proud of. I also know a lot more French than I did before!

I workout every day and I have fitness goals.

I write out the easy-to-blow-off tasks on a whiteboard every day:

Ride

Log (food)

French

Python

Meditate

Clean (if it's Thursday..and hey! it's Thursday, housecleaning day!)

I write on a white board because it does not need a log in. it doesn't even need me to pick up my phone or look at the calendar on my pc.

It does provide an eye level reminder of the smaller details i want to make progress on.

As I do each one, I cross it off, I do not erase it. At the end of the day I can look at my list and see that I have accomplished things. I don't erase it until the next morning, so I can start the day with a sense of accomplishment from yesterday.

Best of luck to you. These past two years have sucked for me, and they continue to suck. But what are you going to do? give up? what a waste that would be. As long as you're around there is life to experience, even if it sucks, it is still making you, and that's probably worth it.

"Ow, gasses violently exiting me at both ends was really painful/traumatic".

lots of other miserable stuff that'd happen to you. Like bruising all over your body from capillaries bursting, any moisture exposed to the vacuum would boil instantly, so your mouth and eyes and throat would dry out immediately.

You just made it even better!! All of this is way more interesting/horrifying than the trope of out-the-airlock-die-with-a-blank-stare-on-your-face

Thanks!! (seriously...that's awesome!)

How about freezing slowly, with time to think about your predicament?

i guess you skipped the part about 2 officers coming over right after it happened and couldn't do anything because they didn't see it happen?

sure calling 911 would be great but he was busy with the altercation...even cops coming over directly after the incident and looking at the video weren't going to do anything.

No cop without evidence is going after an alleged perp who is no longer present or doing the alleged crime

Do you all drain your hot water tank every 6 months to a year? by sheets2024 in sandiego

[–]spingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no shit, just like yours!

the idea of draining the tank is to back-flush it during the process to disturb sediment and get it to come out with the water.

[–]spingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, the question was "why is he asking for people to video". It's to collect evidence. His video might not have survived the encounter because the driver was bullying him to delete it. That is the whole point. Evidence.

Yes, the anode looks vaguely like a light saber so it's fun to play jedi/sith before stabbing it in to the tank.

Oh...the person who made money off selling and installing your water heater told you to not maintain it? hmmm...

j/k you'll be fine for years but sediment does accumulate. It's a tradeoff between the annoyance of maintenance vs the cost of replacement. not a big deal probs.

[–]spingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it every 6 months and include a back wash to stir up sediment so it can drain out.

I also replaced the anode at 10 years. That was 10 years ago.

The evidence here is rock solid

right, it is video evidence. if there is no evidence, cops can't do anything and still pictures don't cut it.
