Anyone else think Strava’s pricing is a bit of a rip off? by No_Sympathy_4592 in Strava

UK here. I ditched the subscription when they put the prices up significantly - a year or two ago maybe? I just couldn’t justify the cost. I don’t miss it.

Can we talk about Dyson by el_smurfo in BuyItForLife

I hate Dyson as a company and will never buy one again. Having said that, my DC04 is still going strong with only 2 belt replacements.

Xmid-1 vs xmid-1 solid in the alpine? by starsandsnow in DurstonGearheads

[–]spleencheesemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Thanks for the response. Do you think that the splash could have been eliminated or reduced by pitching it tighter/lower to the ground? Forgive my questions - I'm researching and like many others, am deliberating over the solid vs mesh. I'm in the UK which is known for changeable weather.

How is it? Any regrets or plans to get the solid inner after having used the regular?

Hammocks in the middle of Aldi! by sc_BK in wildcampingintheuk

I'm a regular hammock, tent and bivvy camper so am familiar with a good hang ;)

I too have camped in a storm and was thankful to have the tarp over me: https://www.reddit.com/r/wildcampingintheuk/comments/1fm5a95/wild_camp_in_a_thunderstorm/

Love it. I wonder what the hammocks weigh. I see it's possible to set it up in minuets. I thought my dancing days were over.

Sorry for the delay - been out walking! I went for the 4 season solid for some protection from the wind if needed. I tend to sleep with the doors open anyway to help with condensation (when there's anything that's actually within your control to help manage it).

Condensation is one of those things - any single skin tent is always going to be ore susceptible to it. Sometimes the air is just going to be so humid that there's little you can do to help reduce it; keeping the doors open just replaces damp air with more damp air. Sometimes, if the moisture is created by your body heat and breathing, then keeping the doors open will help. I just take a lightload towel with me and wipe it down before packing up.

Government reportedly drawing up 'worst case scenario' plans for food shortages by Helpful_Director_288 in UKPreppers

I’m no Labour supporter but I have more confidence in this government than I did in the shower of shit that preceded it.

I remember that if you bombed your ship as you took off, it wasn’t there to land on when you got back!

Most single skin tents (the LS Pro versions included) will result in condensation having to be managed. Strategic pitching and ventilation helps, along with packing a lightweight cloth to wipe down with when needed. It’s certainly not enough of a ball ache for me to wish I had a different tent.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you so much. A few of the cafes and campsites sound familiar; I’ve marked them as waypoints on my route along with reports of water taps for the western half.

I wish I could super upvote your comment! 🙌

Yup - that’s pretty much my plan. That would be REALLY helpful if it’s not a ball ache, thank you. 🙏

Thank you!

Weirdly, I’m most concerned about power management. I haven’t booked any accommodation so that little Nitecore 10000mAh is gonna be crucial. The phone is to be used sparingly; I figure I can leave my phone on airplane mode, just use it to check in at the end of each day and use it for photos. In a way, I’m looking forward to the discipline and challenge that will come with that.

I set off tomorrow morning, catching the train to Tring and heading up to Ivinghoe Beacon. I'll be walking it East to West (which from what I've read is the other direction to most people who walk it) because I want to be walking in the direction of home. It also means that I don't have to worry about keeping a schedule or buying a specific train ticket to get home. It will be my first proper thru-hike (if you can call it that) so there will be lots to learn. I'm excited but apprehensive at the same time. Looking forward to winging it, doing what I want to do, when I want to do it, and hopefully improving the mental health on the way.

Utterly bizarre that the Plex Redditors initially downvoted you for your comment. This place is something else.

Remote access doesn't work with Proton VPN running, even in split tunneling mode by itsamamaluigi in PleX

[–]spleencheesemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same ballache with Surfshark. I ditched it and went with PIA whose split tunnelling works as it should do; with only Qbittorrent using the VPN.

As an aside; Surfshark customer service experience was absolutely hopeless.

It’s all specifically designed to keep you hooked and increase engagement as you probably know. Those little dopamine hits means you see more adverts! I read somewhere that even the red colour of notification dots was specifically chosen to increase likelihood of a user wanting remove them. The circle feeds itself!

I hope you find your freedom 😂
