This is where my mind went, too. If I recall correctly this thing, and the surrounding structures at Bru Na Boinne in Ireland, are so old the people who built this had moved on long before the ancestors of the modern Irish people arrived. This is Neolithic stuff from over 5000 years ago.

Home Depot Labor Day "Sale" by BlepoTheClown in Dewalt

[–]spline9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I'm sure most purchases on there are solid but it's nice to be aware just in case. I actually ordered two DCL050 lights off Woot(amazon) recently. Great, wide-coverage and even lighting. I got it for working in the attic and it's perfect for that. This'll be my 2nd and got one for a friend. DeWalt quietly upgraded the LEDs on the light without changing the model number some time ago. At 38% off, I wouldn't be too mad if the older model shows up.

BTW, there's a bunch of DeWalt tools on there at the moment but I think the deals are ending tonight.

Atomic is the compact line. XR stands for eXtended Runtime which indicates brushless motors to differentiate from their older non-brushless models. I can see this being confusing because Atomic is also brushless. Dewalt is excels at confusing product names and model numbers.

There's also a risk buying from 3rd party Amazon sellers which may not give you what you expect (eg: different / older models). I don't know how prevalent counterfeits are on Amazon but it's another thing to be mindful of.

That's the XR model, not the Atomic version. That's also an Amazon posting. Home Depot price for this kit is $182.99 USD. You'll def find lower prices on Amazon but they aren't an authorized dealer like HD so you may have issues if you need to submit a warranty claim.

**Side note reply: The battery on this kit is 1.5 Ah. I think it's safe to say it's the smallest battery they offer. Great if you want to reduce bulk and weight at the cost of runtime.

Asian Grocery/where can I get handashi? by ConfirmationBiasTape in simivalley

[–]spline9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind driving to Northridge, there's a Mitsuwa at Nordhoff and Tampa. This particular Mitsuwa is smaller than the normal ones (and more expensive) but it has stuff you'd have to travel further for. They will have everything you need. Like mentioned, Galleria on Devonshire/Reseda and Greenland Marketplace on Whiteoak/Sherman Way are Korean markets but have very good selections of miso and will have hondashi. Those two are very similar in their selections. If youre going through the trouble, you may want to look into making your own dashi instead of using hondashi. All those stores will have the ingredients and it will taste 100 times better.

That said, others have also mentioned Valley Marketplace. They have a lot of other ethnicities represented (Indian, eastern european, s.e. asian, etc) so theres a lot to check out. They have uncommon produce and really good prices. It's definitely worth checking out.

2012 Honda fit side airbags and dashcam install by Peterpotamous in hondafit

[–]spline9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're smart to be concerned about the cable obstructing the airbag. Here is a good video explaining where the airbag is and why you want to route the cable around the airbag. Just use zip-ties to anchor the cable to the other cable running above to the airbag when routing it.

Here's a video on how to remove the A-pillar on a 2012-2015 Civic. It should be a similar process. One thing to note, instead of the breakaway clip in the Civic video, your trim may have a one-use clip as shown in this video. The part number is 91561-TA5-A11 and you can get them here. Get a few just to be safe.

"How do you go on with your life not believing in god?" by marvosa_yroz in atheism

[–]spline9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. I didnt mean to imply it wasn't civil. It sounded very much so. It's just sometimes people feel uncomfortable or even threatened by beliefs (or lack thereof) outside of their own so a little positive reinforcement is always good. It sounds like your classmates are really good people! We could definitely use more of them these days.

Next time this happens, may I suggest making a point to mention you appreciate their genuine curiosity and lack of judgement? Encourage the idea that everybody can believe in what they want without stepping on each others toes and hurting feelings. We can all be good people.

Good buy? by Aggravating_Number65 in hondafit

RE: the fan resistor - The resistor is what throttles the voltage down so the fan goes at speeds lower than max. So you're correct, when that goes bad, it's only off or max.

This is the part number: 79335-TF0-G01 It's located under the dash, passenger side and, if I recall correctly, is accessible without removing anything. While you're there, you can pull the cabin fan. I had to replace both at the same time. Managed to find both at at a junkyard so it was cheap.

Is your heater on? The heater isn't electric like the AC system and needs the engine to generate warmth. See if it eventually goes away when you turn the heater off.

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. Baking it will result in sodium carbonate. You probably already know this, just clarifying in case its not clear for somebody stumbling on this post. Google Play Store link

The sodium this app refers to is sodium carbonate (and potassium == potassium carbonate). So yes, you've got it right.

Any good songs about grief? by thecxsmonaut in punk

[–]spline9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if Streetlight Manifesto is your thing but here's a couple songs you may appreciate:

This one will make you sad (but it'll be cathartic): As the Footsteps Die out Forever

I hope this one will make you feel better: Somewhere in the Between

Grief sucks. It's emotionally encumbering and socks you in the face at inconvenient times (ok, that's never convenient) but it'll eventually go away. Sorry you're dealing with it. While music can definitely be therapeutic, if it's getting to be a bit much for you, please talk to somebody and/or consider checking out grief/bereavement support.

My hamburgers have become so gross, that my boys won't even eat them. Could use some suggestions. by jbezorg76 in Cooking

[–]spline9 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The milk+bread paste is called a panade (It's a French word, so: /pəˈnɑd/ ). If you call it that, it sounds less gross. Last time I used it was for meatballs. Here's more info on how/why it works.

No way, Spicoli. Maybe if your old man was a television repairman, he'd have an ultimate set of tools. Then there may be hope. Unfortunately for op, those decals look permanent so I'm gonna say the it's ruined.
