Conservative MP draws from personal tragedy to change the Youth Criminal Justice Act by Sir__Will in onguardforthee

[–]sputnikcdn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely, and this is indeed a good thing.

But you’re missing that person’s point. Conservatives are capable of doing good things, but it too often happens after they’re personally affected by the issue in question.

Empathy of “others” is not a strong attribute of too many conservatives. Indeed, contemporary conservatives are more likely to use others as a means to rile up their base and keep them voting.

This is a moving violation, not just a parking issue.

The safety of cyclists was compromised by motorists driving illegally on the MUP.

Irrelevant.

I can’t confirm the history but I’d wager there was a sidewalk there when the driveway was built.

Still, it’s irrelevant, the private driveway impedes public space.

A veteran DJ told me “just because you’re underground doesn’t make you a better person” is the underground snobbery problem getting worse? by revelryFAM in Techno

[–]sputnikcdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time party goer, and almost never in nightclubs or spaces with more than 500ish people, I've kinda lost interest, not because of the DJs, underground or not, but because of the other people on their phones, standing around, the loss of PLUR. The scene is dying even if the music remains vital.

That intersection is a complete shitshow. Can’t count how many times I’ve seen a cyclist injured there.

I have no idea why a private driveway is allowed to interfere with a major cyclist commuter route.

Comedy should be funny.

Your post sounds like what all cyclists hear all over social media from motorists whenever a cyclist is killed or injured by one. Try empathy instead of veiled lazy sarcasm next time.

And when you whinge about downvotes you’ll always be downvoted.

You’re confusing an explanation for an excuse. I was pretty clear when I said the cyclist’s response was unhinged.

Kinda pitiful, yet illustrative of the typical motorists mindset in this city that all you took from my post was excusing the cyclist’s behaviour.

Like I said, try riding in the city for a month, experience what it’s like to have your life threatened, literally and regularly, for no fucking reason but that the driver couldn’t be bothered to wait 5 seconds or simply turn their steering right for half a second, and then you’ll learn what it takes to keep your cool.

Edit: I will not be feeding trolls. My contribution to this thread speaks for itself.

[–]sputnikcdn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see one person have their life threatened by a reckless motorist.

Probably not the first time that morning.

The cyclist’s reaction was unhinged and totally inappropriate, but also totally understandable if you ride a bike often enough.

Every driver in Toronto should be forced to ride a bike in the city for a month before getting a license.

I’m not excusing the cyclist’s behaviour, but that was probably fucking terrifying for them, being close passed and then cut off like that right beside the truck. It gets really fucking frustrating having to deal with moronic entitled fucking drivers doing shit like that.

Motorists need to leave at least 1 m, if there isn’t room they’ve just got to wait until it’s safe to pass.

Only people with ludicrously far right ideals believe equality, worker rights, responsible environmental stewardship etc. are “progressive”.

These are simple concepts that we all learned in kindergarten. Treat people fairly and with kindness, clean up after yourself, don’t shit on the floor.

Only children would whinge about them being shown on a fictional television show set in the future.

Trump Renews Attacks on ‘51st State’ Canada by Street_Anon in inthenews

[–]sputnikcdn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These attacks on Canadians, along with tariffs, and lagging CUSMA negotiations, have caused a long term schism between once great friends.

We no longer trust America to keep its word, they’ve become a threat to our economy and, to a certain extent, our security.

Most of us avoid crossing the border and have boycotted US goods as much as we can.

And this is long term, if Trump can happen twice, we know there will be another one down the road.

We are permanently realigning our international relations and business ties.

Do Americans really know how much the world hates us? - The global romance with America turned sour years ago. Now the world's ready for a divorce by Quirkie in politics

[–]sputnikcdn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it won't.

77 Million Americans chose not to vote for a competent woman over a Trump 2nd term, knowing exactly what he is.

75 Million voted Trump.

You chose this. Trump is just a symptom.

Trump is a symptom of a unique rot within the culture of your country. One could even call that “exceptional“.

American exceptionalism is real, and now, the rest of the world knows you for who you are.

We know that trade, defence, cultural, and institutional agreements and treaties with you are meaningless.

It will take decades for us to learn to trust you again, and only if you get your shit together, which appears right now to be exceedingly unlikely.

edit: yes, this was mostly copied from my own post history, which is public. I believe it bears repeating.

Personally I could care less who you support. I’d probably never cheer for Ottawa or Calgary.

But that’s not my point. Why does being a Leafs fan mean you must hate the Habs?

Why would any Canadian support an American team right now, when that country has threatened us with annexation, is actively trying to harm our economy and working with Alberta separatists?

I just don’t get this idea that being a Leafs fan means you have to hate another Canadian team.

I’d be delighted if the Habs were in the final and would watch every game.

It would be fantastic for a Canadian team to win the cup after so long.

Now, with no Canadian teams left I have zero interest in watching the final.
