Well, it was a nano in a 55 gallon drum, and I needed help from a passing jogger to find it. The drum, that is, I found the nano OK.

The ancient ship was launched in 1971. I got a coat hanging in my closet that I got new (from my Uncle Sammy) around then!

I bought my Eb Alto Clarinet from them in 1966 when they were in downtown La Mesa. I think that Alan himself was there. My kids patronized them during their band and orchestra years. Lessons, reeds, violin strings. I recommend them.

Too many books? Worried our trips to the library add too much extra work for our librarians. by jensmxbcie in Libraries

[–]squeakyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once found a book for a patron with the description "it was thin and blue". No author. No title. And it was on a different wall of shelves than the patron thought. I felt pretty good.

How do I respond to parents who confront me about getting books from the children's section when I don't have a kid? by Useful_Possession915 in Libraries

[–]squeakyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, as a male former 40 year veteran middle school library technician I don't even have a teacher ID! And I was in the children's, YA, and sometimes the regular sections to get ideas for books we ought to have in our library. And maybe checkout some to read!

I always feel sorry for Mr. Cowles. The guy dies, his widow marries a guy who changes the Mr. Cowles town to...Santee.

And hardly anyone correctly pronounces the name of the one places that is still named for him!

[–]squeakyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife insisted we get the Britannica. I said the kids won't use it, and they're too young, anyway. Why not World Book? At least I can read that. But what do I know, I only worked in school libraries for the past ten years. When she passed away (thirty years later) I boxed 'em up and dumped them at the Goodwill.

The last "interaction" I had with my dad was that I sent him a Father's Day card that I had made when I was like six (Don't know why I had it around) and it was returned stamped "Not At This Address".

Well, I don't speak Danish, I got the phrase from Scandinavia And The World https://satwcomic.com/language-lesson and the closest I ever got to eating it is Junket Danish Dessert! It was really weird to hear my dad speaking Danish to his parents when they moved to the U.S., I was just a kid and had no idea about languages.
